Aaah, the post that was made after this thread was started. I think OP sooner got the answer from the replies in this thread.
-
This is a multiplayer game, not a PvE game.
-
I picked gold because I wasn't going to use anything other than black armour, and the gold shoulder badge looks better on black than the shadow shoulder badge
-
red on black is vastly inferior to gold on black.

It is an issue, it just might not be the kind of issue you are talking about. See alien vision pre 252.
Oh, and in games like DayZ, where many players play purely for the immersion factor and therefore specifically choo… -

Is any advantage not gained through personal skill or experience not an unfair advantage?
Or are you referring to the fact that everyone can resort to flat shaded environments if they so please? A convincing argument to… -

So it only counts as an advantage if you pay for it. Ok, nice logic.

Still wouldn't dare using it against anyone half competent. One bite and I'm getting the hell out of there.

You would be surprised how much res goes into things other than teching up. Things like outposts (armouries, phase gates, observatories, turrets), and the inherent cost of moving marines throughout the map (medpacks, ammo packs, scans).

I made a suggestion for a more passive, siege like version of contaminate. It would be unable to "break the base" of marines who are actively …

If marines have only one tech point, or they have two but are tightly locked inside their base, contaminate should be devastating. It should be nigh on impossible for the marines to withstand a contaminate attack without pushing ou… -

The infestation spreads out reasonably slowly. The whips would be echo'd in only a second or so after it reaches its maximum area, and even then, the area really isn't that large. Some tech rooms would indeed pose a problem, but th… -

So a smart commander, who doesn't drop infestation on structures, bypasses your argument completely?

A single whip bombard does 300 structural damage (comm station has 3000 health) and is thrown once every 5 seconds (after which normal whipping takes place). Most structures are considerably weaker than a command station. You're lo… -

ARCs used to actually be a PvE solution, because they could quickly be spammed and deployed very quickly to a hive room.
This was fixed by making them build incredibly slowly, and have them move at what is essentially a… -

The only question is whether or not its breaking turtles. A 3v2 techpoint advantage is not necessarily a turtle, and if it is, does that mean that aliens are turtling when marines have 3 tech points? Or do aliens have a domineering… -

Only include the cost of objects that are solely involved in the contaminate.
Hives don't count, shifts don't count, whips don't count if you do it right, but I'll give you those.

I was going to make another sarcastic comment, but this actually gives me an idea.
What if contaminate was an active ability that had a range? So no more dropping it anywhere on the map you like, but still being able to do it provided yo… -

100% agree with this. Make contaminate like ARCs. As in, echoing a whip in takes at least 3-4 minutes, just like the length of time it takes to move an ARC anywhere.

I'm actually considering getting the gold pack because the decal color scheme is better than the shadow pack one :-??
-
The thing that needs to be determined here is what the "equilibrium condition" is in a game of NS2. When are the two teams in control of an equal amount of fire power?
Is it 2 tech points vs 2?
2 vs 3?
3 vs 2?

After thinking about it, I will be honest. The theoretical lack of requiring another player to instigate this bothers me.
I don't like the idea of marines and aliens having an all out battle, and then the commander being able to have su… -

Oh ok cool. Soz, my micro position isn't up to scratch because I'm always focusing on my weapon macro and click control. I don't even want to talk about my button modulation!

I once 1v1d a dual exo as a skulk and killed him. This is evidence that Exos are underpowered and require buffs. -
From OP's description, sounds like contaminate is working as intended.

He probably rallied vehemently for the balance mod and then promptly stopped playing once all its changes were implemented and threw the balance into disarray.

I could afford it, but can't really justify spending that much on a game in one month. The dollar exchange rate doesn't help either.
Will probably get the shadow pack, depending on how I feel about ARMA 3 or Blacklist this month. -
"micro positioning"? Is this a thing now?
-
I have no clue really. If they were the same as old webs then maybe it would be warranted, but as it stands they don't even prevent marines from firing. They are a minor inconvenience at the moment.
