Hehe I'm always in for such pranks , can you show me how the linux interface you're talking about looks like? [edit] I hinted a little towards linux already with "root" (only it's still in the dos look)
Ha.ze: At the moment I also have a small amount of red near the bottom also I reduced the brightness/saturation of the green (thinking of changing it back to a more brigther color, just looked at previous screenshot and I think it looks sexy ), and there are some minor architectural changes (more like a face lift) also I made the texturing better... I'm still thinking of making it flicker, but the only problem I have with this is that I used many individual lights in a line and I'm not sure if they would flicker in the same rhythm, (trial and error)
I'm putting the finishing touches on the lighting and architecture (r_speed reducing not needed but I like them low) screenshot of final look soon...
I tried to keep the style you had, with the rather ironic "have a nice day"; much of the changes was just formatting and such. Oh, and you might want to change the date up a bit. maybe set it to my birthday June 6. Nice!!! That's much better looking then my text
Thank you m8, cursor is already blinking btw, hehe now I'll add you in the credits for source material
Note on forum use "leading spaces" You have to use the ascii command alt+255 for each leadin space and thats teadious work (dunno bout linux, same?)
Most people don't like 3 posts in a row, The rule of the forum is when you can add something in a post edit, use the edit option. Because everytime You post this threads keeps bumping to the top (not that I mind since it's my thread and all , but most people don't like it since they wan't their thread up there, oh well)
All right, here's a copy of my seti@home client working; again, you can remove that year entry in the date at your discretion. I didn't put anything in the text that obviously points out the fact that it's seti@home. After all, an easter egg can't be *too* obvious . And besides, for those people who don't get it, it doesn't destroy the ambience of the game since it conceivably could be the output from some kind of radar scan.
[edit] looking over the copy I gave you for the command screen, it looks like the two root broadcasts both have the same timestamp. Hmmm...suspicious. They're both in hour:minute:second format, so I suppose you could set the time on the second one a few dozen seconds ahead. [/edit]

Just a note, a point that I've already brought up but I don't think you noticed:
On both the "Broadcast message from root" entries you might want to remove the "2004" year, as it seems that the NS backstory team has meticulously kept any mention of date off their stories, and so we might want to exercise some discretion here. You could also remove the slash in "vc/1" so the message fits on one line. In "UNKNOWN LIFEFORMS DETECTED ONBOARD" I suppose the "ONBOARD" could be removed, to keep the line nice and tidy again. Then again, maybe this is just a result of my nit-picky nature. As you're the mapper, I guess it's up to you if you want to make these modifications, to make the output look a bit neater.
If you do make these changes though, be sure to take some of the top "xxxK transferred" lines off the seti@home display, to make sure that the two screens have the same number of lines.
My two cents...
[edit] and thanks for the generous credit I play (as of now) under "SMAT.BaBoUnD", so I suppose "BaBoUnD" would be a more appropriate credit... Just had a thought...why don't you make this map one of the first (serious) maps to make use of detail texturing? I've played around with texture making before (made a CS map of our dorm building once, ALL custom textures ) and I'd gladly help with that.
I have to say I'm impressed. And this coming from the 18th member of this community (*bow*). BTW, being a mapper myself, how did you do the overlays? Thats a main problem of mine...Ah well. I may pump out a hallway tonight actually, just for the heck of it. Who knows, maybe it'll turn into a map. Now, back on topic. Show us the screenys!!!! Oh and, I'm available for PTing whenever ya want
