As requested, when things go horribly horribly wrong:

It was a dark gloomy night on the floating chemical station that we Marine lovingly call Tanith. We had been pushed back to our drop zone, and the aliens were swarming all around the level. We had a cluster of turrets in one of their hive locations, but it was only a matter of time before they were overwhelmed, and if that happened, our last moments would be watching our friends demise under the giant bulk of an Onos.

Our valliant Commander, Mr. Plaguebearer, was running out of resources as we made a final push to their second hive, hoping to wipe out the threat before it was too late. Equipped with HMG's, my team moved out. I was dropped a welder, and ran after my team. Together, in a barrage of fire and a stench of nervousness, we approached the smaller entrance to their hive.

A lerk fluttered above our heads, dropping spore clouds and spikes, until the HMG-toting soldiers covered him in high velocity bullets from their dual-chambered weapons. On the way there, we met two more lerks, both of which were infuriating for me (the welder), as my teammates couldnt kill them fast enough to stop them from doing damage to us.

When we finally arrived at the hive we met a lone builder, but also his forest of Offensive and Healing chambers, just behind a corridoor full of webs. The final push, this was it. I welded away some of the webs until I came under fire from the turrets. Even with our combined might, it might be wise to try a different tactic, so our commander threw me a health pack and asked me to weld open a door that lead us to a large cargo room. Beyond that room was the other entrance to the hive, according to the commander it was less fortified.

Shooting down a couple of skulks, and pushing the Gorge back to heal, my teammates covered as I slowly welded the door. I watched the progress bar slowly inch across the screen. My teammates all decided to reload their HMG's at apparently the same time, and I heard the snapping of ammo canisters just as the plate that held the door in place snapped, followed by the door breaking into pieces.

I looked up, and standing the other side of the door was one skulk, one lerk, one fade, and that ever-annoying gorge. You could just tell they were grinning. A welder, and 3 marines who were all busy fumbling around with their weapons.

Playing at 2am in the morning with all the lights off doesn't really help your composure in circumstances liek this, and after I managed to get my heart working again, I just had to laugh at the whole scene.

Being the first one to die, I was the first to respawn back at base. Greeting me on respawn was the (not so) friendly face of an Onos, happily munching on our infantry gate. My teammates never even got the chance to respawn after my dead body had hit the floor for the second time in 20 seconds.

So if you have a welder, you can't use a weapon? Hmm...

God... so your team decided to not warn eachother of reloading? Wow... that was pretty smart.

I have an idea. Let's keep this topic alive after the NS release, and everybody tells their stories! Maybe some people might tell the same story from different perspectives? That would be great. And at the end of your story, add a screenshot of something from the game, whether it be the scoreboard, or a cool part in the game! Man I'm smart!

i think once NS is released, this post should be deleted and re-made so that then it isn't so big and taking up SO much space.

Here's the first story of the new build!

It was a hard fought battle over Eclipse. We just got three hives up so I went to become an Ohnos. Unfortunely, I didn't pay attention to where I was evolving and choose a silly place to become such a large beast, so I was stuck. However a kindly Gorg came by and built a movement chamber by me. I used the movement chamber to warp back to the hive to become unstuck. Just as I reached the hive, a squad of HMG and LMG carrying marines were attacking it. I poped outta nowhere, used charged and ran down all of them save one at once. The other guy I got on the second pass. From now on, avoid large rooms since you'll never know when an Ohnos will appear....

On the same note:

I was a builder near the area Hida had become stuck (earlier in the game), and the marines were doing a hard advance down a nearby hall. A level 3 and level 4 were trying to hold them off. First thing I do when I arrive at the battle, is drop down a movement chanber, so any alien can retreat quickly if needed (to save RP so they don't have to revovle if they die). Flayra gave his many thanks as I healed him as he fought the battle. Next, I dropped down a defensive chamber to slowly heal the guys in battle, again, they were happy. I ran out and fired a few shots, having little effect, so I dropped back to heal. AARGGHH a LMG was ripping apart my backside! The level 4 (think it was Flay) returned the saving favour, and blinked back to where I was, and slashed the marine into bits Teamwork is good!

yes indeed... moments like that must be great, I get a similar (albeit probably less intense) feeling when I'm playing CS sometimes. Like today, me and another terrorist were playing on cs_747, and we decided to stick together for the duration of the round. We rushed out through the hallway that connects to the front of the plane (the dark one with the red lighting) and fount two counter-terrorists, which I promptly ripped apart with my AK-47. We then proceeded to run up the stairs to the top of the level which overlooks the massive 747. There was a counter-terrorist up there that .empty didn't see, and he ran past the CTs hiding spot. A few seconds after he'd gone by, I saw the CT jump out and start unloading on him with an m4a1 carbine. A split-second later that CT was sent to hell in a handbasket as he got a very nasty suprise when I jumped out of nowhere and flayed him with my AK.

.empty spent the last minute of that round picking off CTs from an elevated position as they tried to exit or enter the plane while I covered him. We both survived the round, and won it for our team. Ah, teamwork is goooood.

Sure it may be out of place, but isn't that bad of a story. Teamwork is still teamwork.

We were in the middle of a game on NS_Nancy, and I was playing on a team with MonsE, Hida, and TommyD, as well as a few more fellow Marines. We had initially managed to siege the Aliens out of Mother hive, with me covering Monse as a shotgunner. I later died, and spawned near Hida. Monse needed backup at the hive, and I ran off with Hida to Mother. We wound through the tunnels killing a skulk or two en route. We reached the hive and then, after a small period of building turrets and setting up a collector, Monse said "Im going to a hive, anyone wanna come with?". Me, Hida, and Monse all met up and worked our way to the hive. At some point along the way, we became seperated and Monse was killed. I stuck to Hida as well as I could lugging a fully stocked shotgun, and we rounded the corner only to hear the footsteps of an approachign lvl 4. Stepping into a small alcove, we crouched and waited. He passed and I sprung out. BOOM! chik click. BOOM! chik . . . He slashes me while grunting angerly. click BOOM! SLASH! Death. Mine unfortunately. I look on as Hida is slaughtered while he backpedals against a wall with his Light Machine Gun spitting rounds.
I spawn and wait for Hida, and my friendly commander drops me a shotgun. Hida spawns and I tell him I'll cover him via the Popup menu. After he fills his weapon at the armory, we head out and work our way to a ladder leading up to a vent, which in turn leads to a hive. Climbing up, I hear the sounds of the lvl 4 that had ambushed us earlier, but he leaves. We reach the end of the vent, which is narrow and along the floor, and we walk to the edge of the hive room. It looks reasonabley empty. In the middle of the room is a Generator which will protect us in case we see turrets on this side. I make a break for it, runnign aroudn the back of the generator past 2 turrets, a defense chamber, and rp collector, and a sensory chamber. Hida follows and we hide behind the generator.
Soon enough, we are setting up a turret factory behind the generator. Even the sounds of the nanos clicking together feels too loud. "Dont fire a SHOT" I say. He places down a turret and me and the commander both say "only build it 90%". We set to work.

Now wait a minute, wouldnt we want the turret online in case of attack?

::Time for a little update in the realm of marine tactics. While I have said plenty of times that it is best to evade the hive mind (look back through my stories) by killing as few as possible, a little marine tactic has sprung up as more and more Playtesters begin to understand how the way the Hive Mind works can be used against the aliens.
Its not really rocket science, but lets go over the facts.
A. Aliens see ALL structures and aliens under attack.
B. Aliens like to kill marines, especially when they are attacking their hive.
C. Aliens tend to rely on A to find the fight.
Soooo . . if you can bring all your turrets and sieges that are attacking the hive online at the SAME time, or almost the same time, you can hit the hive too fast for those aliens to turn around and come back. The idea is to build all the turrets to the cusp of completion, wait, and then, on the signal, unleash hell.

So thats exactly what we did. Hiding behind the generator in that hive room. We set up two sentrys and a siege cannon to the very edge of completion. "NOW" says the commander. Almost simultaneously, our turrets open fire, as they hum to life with a Hisssssss . . . click.
Running around the corner, I start pumping shotgun shells into the hive. The faster that thing dies, the better.
I blast it a few more times as the siege cannon batters the hive. Chikclick . .BAM! The sonic blast of the siege cannon fires again and a feint tinkling noise lingers after the siege fires its last shot. The hive screams and dies.
I dont remember the rest of the game because it was getting late, but we won. It was a textbook play on the marine's part.

W0W, that is one cool story.
I like that thing "marines get to know how the hivesight works and make countertactics".
This just sounds so realistic and Sci-Fi movie-like. (these are opposites, I guess ).
It's good that the forumers know some tactics even before they've played the game. Will there be a "TSA Marine Combat Tactics" - Section in the manual? Err, maybe I'll make a new thread about it, so that every PT can post his tactics.....

[edit] could the PTs post or make a new thread if they want to share some of their "advanced tactics"? Or maybe the don't want to reveal them, so that we have to learn them ourselves? [/edit]
