less than before!
there never were a lot of steam ns servers (like ~25 on a good day, 10-15 playable), but now theres hardly any! like 10, and 5 playable ones!! whered everyone go? is it christmas break?

WOO! let bash steam for some reason YAHH!!!!! damn... people bash that thing left and right for no good reason just "Steam ****" the reason that theres so few steam servers would have to be that there isnt an offical NS build for steam and the only one out there is kinda like a beta version and it seems to have different problems for everyone who uses it. Hell when I use it my alien right click build menu doesnt pop up (had to hot key every evolve and build).
Ok... Seriously, steam is not that bad. It has some bugs, but they get fixed thanks to steam's good patching system. People say "steam sucks, "steam is ****" and other things that only make them look stupid. Steam only improved the Half-Life gaming system. The games run more smoothly and everything is much more accessible. On steam, you don't have to download every patch as it will auto-download it when you connect to a game. People downloaded steam when it was out and full of bugs, and since then they just keep bashing it without even trying the new versions. It's a stupid thing to whine about, and they only ruin the fun for themselves.
There are always enough steam servers to play on, the KB Clan Server is always full and there is a good german server too, which has players every day
For me it works great
Hmm well guess me and a couple of my buddies are unlucky we all encountered weird little problems one of them it just seemed to die or something but whenever I played on steam there was like 6-20 servers and it was just more choice to use WON. I like the look of steam and it feels alot more user-friendly then WON.
Gungsta-Pasta, I dont ruin the fun for myself, because there is no fun when steam crashes every map change, and every other jointeam. This doesnt happen to me only, half of a steam server gets disconnected at the same time as me. And yes I do have the uber "elite" max patched last version of steam. Just be thankful it doesnt do this for you, dont think everyone has had the same experience with steam as you. People will say what they think of steam, and it doesnt mean they're wrong. You can say that you like steam, but dont tell people what they should think. It is a stupid thing to whine about, but thats only because steam is a stupid thing and its not at all fun, getting disconnected every 15 mins.
The only bug that I have encountered with NS running on Steam is that the right click menus' texts are messed up. Dunno though, I haven't played it for a while. lol, you all know it better don't ya? Steam is good enough, my steam with ns 3.0c is working perfectly, why? coz it's the steam supported ns. Just wait for the release, it'll get nothing but better.
Whilst steam is good for some people and may seem fine to them, this is not true for everyone. MANY people (including me) have had much trouble with steam (i've had to reinstall it 3 times). The fact is that the application was realeased with many problems, a few which still exist even now after it has been out for some time. Other similar applications do a far better job even though they were made for a smaller user base.

Steam is pretty cool. I have few problems, and none that interfere with gameplay. [occasional drops at map change, a few bad textures in the in-game GUI (NS only)]
Steam is definately a step in the right direction. I have to also agree that Steam needs more NS servers! I have to use WON 1/2 the time to find a comefortable server for me. NS also needs more custom map servers! Way more!
~Not to be a jerk, but you Anti-Steamers are going to have to go to Steam eventually anyway, and I imagine Steam will be the default for HL2 and and games with its engine like the 2nd Vampire: Masqarade Game(spelling? ).

did you ever play a steam supported mod on steam? i dont think so. because if you did, you would have realized that those crashes that boot everyone only appear to be happening with NS. from that you can deduct that it is a bug on NS, since the 2.01 version of NS that runs on steam is a ns steam beta.
I am tired of hearing people say 'steam sucks' and 'steamed' after every random kick, without thinking even a little bit about what they are saying. since i got steam, which was in spring 2003, i barely had any problems with it, and those that occured were either being fixed by valve, or i could fix them myself with 5-10 minutes of google research. most of the time, its just the user who's unable to solve the problems himself.
Go here to see the problems people are having, NOT just with NS, and also to see if there is a fix to any problems you are having.

(in reply to sin)hey, other than trying to run a dedacated server, i get NO problems wit steam whatsoever, seriously, i dont know why people are getting so many errors/problems and whatknot. Heres my suggestion on steam:
Make SURE you have a DECENT computer, like 1ghz+ with some sort of AGP based video card, at LEAST 256 ram, plenty of harddrive space (like 5gb+ if ur heavy on mods that is) some sort of sound card, BROADBAND internet (dial up is dying now people, its time to move up the ladder).**** those requirements set by steam, they dont know ****.
NEXT, you should have a VALID cd key, that YOU bought, (no sharing, no cd key gen, no online-found keys, but one that you got on a jewel case called "Half-Life, or Counter-Strike" or whatever applies to you, what im trying to say is, make sure YOU and ONLY you OWN it)
with all that in check, go to www.steampowered.com and download either the counter-strike or half-life cache file thingy(id suggesting half-life for the moment),(thats if u just wanna get on NS asap) After a small 300-400mb download, you can install it, and then come here to the forums and get the 2.0 STEAM beta. After installing that beta, opening up steam, USE your cd key and make an account, make sure you fill out info CORRECTLY, and put your REAL email, (not some mail@email.com bs) (if u dont have an email, try yahoo or hotmail and sign up there) anyway, after your done signing up, steam should update, let it do its thing, it MAY look frozen, but its updating. Once your done with that, start up the game half life/counterstrike and update them, then close the game, and load up NS(should be under "3rd party mods")
*It should look like half life a.t.m.* anyway go to options, and set your binds, dont forget "bind mouse2 +popupmenu" and "bind f4 readyroom" hehehe.
Follow all that, you should be ready to play NS, so find a game and join already. This SHOULD work, if it doesnt, you messed up somewhere.
If steam ever messes up after an update, find the .blob file in the main steam directory and delete it, itll have to update again, but itll fix steam.
I have noticed the exact opposite actually. When I started playing the steam version there were 12 servers, with about 5 with people in them. I just hit the server button on steam right now, and there are 47 servers, and 15 with players in them.

Steam is great. I played S&I on it yesterday and today. Installed flawlessly, ran without error, could find a server without loading any third party CRAP that I hate that eats ram... got in, played smoothly. From nothing to in the game joining a team took under 20 seconds... including all the loading...
But of course, the version of NS thats out there wasn't -made- for steam
So wait for NS 3.0 which is made for steam, and i'm sure it will have the same benefits
