And Like I said.. they just issued new M4's. A weapon being old is not, and never has been a reason to replace it. Even the old 1911's are still in use with many US forces cause its more reliable than Berettas. And I asked a bunch of higher ups, and none of em have ever heard of the XM8.. (The X in XM stands for Experimental... so, Accordingly, you can see its still in the development stages.) <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->

The 1911 is no longer standard-issue in the US Armed Forces, no. However, there are still many M1911s still in our inventory, mostly in use by the various special forces units; SEALs, Rangers, AFSOC, etc. In fact, a number of units in Marine Force Recon flatly refused to switch over to the M9 until ordered to do so in 1993 by a government mandate.

And I wouldn't be so quick as to say the OICW was "cancelled". It is, however, being reevaluated by Aliant and H&K after an incident where a 20mm grenade detonated in the chamber. That doesn't mean we'll never see it in the future.

I doubt the DoD would be seriously considering the XM-8 this late in the development process if they were not moderately sure that their new toy exceeded the limitations of our current service rifles.

1911's are a great gun, my cousin in Germany dug one up a while back and it still fired perfectly.

No, Jaeger, Im fairly certain the XM29 Saber was cancelled. Aside from Killing its users, It was also found to be too bulky and cumbersome for effective deployment. And, Im also pretty sure we wont be seeing it in any considerable numbers in the future. It was a flawed design from the start. And it turned out to be an overgrown M203. It will go down the same road as the XM106, CAWS, and Steyr ACR.

And as for the 1911 not being Standard issue anymore.... well, It is. In fact its the standard issue sidearm of the Navy Construction Battalion (SeaBees), as well as the Standard Issue Sidearm for Navy SEALs. (With the exception of Seal Team 6, they use the P226). And, in 2008, It will have been the Sidearm of the USMC for 100 years, since they never officially adopted the M9.... then again, they never officially adopted the M16, either.

I think drop in kits for the 6.5 grendel or 6.8 would be a nice addition. Performance boost without having to totally switch to a new weapon.

I saw this rifle first in the post by burncycle some months ago, but he only included those concept scans. This is the first real pics of it I've seen. Is it that rifle that will be standard issue in the US Army? If so, then I'm really looking forward to when they include it in the game Americas Army  <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Yes it is the rifle that will start being issued in 2005.

But I doubt it will make it into AA.

Edit: Brig, the XM-29 has not been scrapped. The project is on hold due to the amount of problems that have come up, but I doubt we will see it issued before 2008.

However, there are a number of reasons why Any replacement will not be at least for a number of years. First off, The M16 was first issued 46 years ago. Since that time, It has been modified several times based on the requirements of soldiers on the field. At the current time, Its the most reliable, battle proven rifle in the world, along with the AKM. It isnt without considerable testing that any rifle will ever replace it, Because along with a new weapon, you need to reissue all equipment relating to the use of said weapon. You need to also retrain every soldier in the use of the new weapon. In addition, you need to find some use for the Millions of rifles already in use. Its an enormously expensive process. And, to top it off, theres no way to tell that after 5 years, some Huge problem is not going to just pop up and require all THOSE rifles to be recalled. Also.. a Rifle made almost entirely of plastic will likely never be chosen to replace a weapon that millions of US soldiers depending on to work in all conditions, without fail. you can run an M16 over with a jeep over and over again and it will still work.. the same can likely not be said for a rifle made even out of the strongest Plastics and laminates. Even the AUG, when tested with Marine Corps recon units, Couldnt stand up to the harsh treatment and dismal conditions. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    your very right. i put in the forms for an exchange of my sa80 for an m16a1 because its;

    lighter
    ergonomic
    powerful
    faster rof

i hate my SA80, it jammed 3 times whilst doing sum light work on the range <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

once again he's right. the 1911 isnt my personal choice when on duty (not all that light) but it is very good for how old it is.

OK, Lukin, serisouly now, Im really sorry to tell you, But Ill repeat myself. The M29 Saber was scrapped.
And Once more, If the M16 was being replaced, I would have known about it, Hell, Id probably have a new rifle right now. well, maybe after Marine Recon. I mean, I *could*conceivably be wrong, But... Im not.

Are you really sure about that? I thought that design was the old one.
<a href='http://world.guns.ru/assault/as61-e.htm' target='_blank'>World.guns.ru</a> changed their site not long ago, and the one seen there now is what was sent to the army. I haven't seen any pictures of the design you have there other than that one and there are plenty of the other.

the pics on wg are old :-/ i have seen them very long time ago.. the toyish looking one is just a initial design study.. ones who are maybe delivered to the army would be test models.. this have nothing to do with the design of the gun. steyr delivered a lot of its aug77 prototypes to the austrian army for field testing reasons.. it looked complete different to the final one (it looked similar to the steyr acr) ... the last design before it changed again for mass production was this one here

never seen a movie of a concept car? its called like the finished product.. its working like the finished product.. maybe it got features like the finished one... but most of the time they look different... with lots of eyecandy nobody can effort..

the P2 oicw was the best example... they showed a slim light, nice looking weapon without working grenadelauncher and targetingcomputer...
the real thing was way bigger.... bulky... but practical..

    Greetings all,
It's been a while since I've modelled something, and being in a heckler&koch kinda mood I headed over to the site to see if I could find anything and this was on the front page so I thought I'd have a go at modelling it. The pc is around 4k, mainly cos there is a hell of a lot of rounded areas and stuff that didnt show up in the renders, as well as a lot of undeleted faces which can't be seen anyway . I didn't know what to do with the scope so I just went with the standard design in one of the pics. Enjoy, opinions welcome<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
