I'm not saying don't model it yourselves, but a version has been done for a long time.

Whoa... if someone wanted to do some extreme work.. they could make this model into a GL, LMG and HMG, and have the deploy anims be removing/adding the specific parts. God that would be sexah. But a lot of work so I'm not hoping for too much. =/

I must say, wow!
I saw this rifle first in the post by burncycle some months ago, but he only included those concept scans. This is the first real pics of it I've seen. Is it that rifle that will be standard issue in the US Army? If so, then I'm really looking forward to when they include it in the game Americas Army

Ive never heard of any plans for the US Military to begin issuing this rifle. In fact, they just started issuing new M4's with integral 20mm launchers... Doesnt look like theyll be replacing those for quite some time.

Ironic how our former enemies are now developing the future weapons platforms of the American ground-pounder. (XM-29, XM-8, Mk.24, etc.)

u no, i had to right a debate argument why the british govt should change the standard side arm to a foriegn (more reliable) weapon. and during research i found that the best guns were h&k and walther, which are both german... wierd eh?

Oh, and I don't really understand what you guys dislike about the xm8. Too much plastic? Well, that's just really childish. It's supposed to be a really great rifle, and since it's based on the g36 I'd be surprised if it isn't. And afaik it will be replacing the m4 and m16 together with the xm28 (oicw, is it? I never learn in what order those letters are spelled )
• BrigadierWolfBrigadierWolf Join Date: 2003-05-30 Member: 16876Members, Contributor
naw, the OICW was scrapped last I heard, I think the Germans are still developing it tho. And Like I said.. they just issued new M4's. A weapon being old is not, and never has been a reason to replace it. Even the old 1911's are still in use with many US forces cause its more reliable than Berettas. And I asked a bunch of higher ups, and none of em have ever heard of the XM8.. (The X in XM stands for Experimental... so, Accordingly, you can see its still in the development stages.)

well, Whats funny, Is that I can name at least 5 weapons "Intended" to replace the Ar-15 as the US service Rifle. However, there are a number of reasons why Any replacement will not be at least for a number of years. First off, The M16 was first issued 46 years ago. Since that time, It has been modified several times based on the requirements of soldiers on the field. At the current time, Its the most reliable, battle proven rifle in the world, along with the AKM. It isnt without considerable testing that any rifle will ever replace it, Because along with a new weapon, you need to reissue all equipment relating to the use of said weapon. You need to also retrain every soldier in the use of the new weapon. In addition, you need to find some use for the Millions of rifles already in use. Its an enormously expensive process. And, to top it off, theres no way to tell that after 5 years, some Huge problem is not going to just pop up and require all THOSE rifles to be recalled. Also.. a Rifle made almost entirely of plastic will likely never be chosen to replace a weapon that millions of US soldiers depending on to work in all conditions, without fail. you can run an M16 over with a jeep over and over again and it will still work.. the same can likely not be said for a rifle made even out of the strongest Plastics and laminates. Even the AUG, when tested with Marine Corps recon units, Couldnt stand up to the harsh treatment and dismal conditions.
