    Don't feel pathetic, techno is great music.

    If you really want to start breaking away from it, though, try by moving from techno to something thats still sorta techno, but still a different genre. From what I've been listening to recently, I highly suggest VNV Nation, Apoptygma Berzerk, and perhaps some Skinny Puppy.

    supposedly most music has effects on your brainwave activity but the two most powerful ones are actually techno and classical music o.O
    Maybe you're just getting hooked on the effects? =3

    Hehe, its a drug for him now...

    I forgot to mention one really really cool suggestion:

    :wumpscut:

    Very very very cool; somewhat evil-sounding, but very cool.

    Not be flamey but i think techno is for people who don't know what music they like.

    tbh

    I'd tell you but that would require digging up a few of my old psychology books and I'm lazy <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->
    there's three types of brainwave activity they usually look at though... alpha, beta and theta. I can't remember which ones are which but certain activities go with certain levels... for example, being hypnotised will actually give the same levels as getting engrossed in something; something that led to research into hypnosis being a kind of focussed attention =3

    Basically techno and classical can play heck with your brainwaves but classical tends to go towards a more sort of relaxed side, techno can inspire feelings of energy or even well-being but on either side it's completely dependant on the song itself ^^
    most of the techno stuff is caused by a combination of the heavy bass and sometimes some of the sounds in them that are slightly outside the human hearing range.
    Maryln Manson played about with subsonics when he was making music for the resident evil film and when he played one of the tunes the directors dog, who was usually a very quiet little thing, went absolutely schizo XD
    Some tunes also made some of the staff feel ill so he had to change those <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    That's strange, from techno to classic you go from almost no variation to lots of variation. Doesn't fit any pattern at all. :/
    I'm listening to a song I've stolen from esuna right now. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    my Snapple cap tells me rock music makes ants (or was it termites?) work 2x faster with rock music on...

    I think it's probably pretty simple -- fast, loud, exciting music gets you hyped up and your adrenaline flowing so that you're more efficient at fast tasks... and slow, soft, soothing music relaxes you and makes you think in a more controlled fashion.

    Classical Music: Helps the human mind to focus and remember things easier
    Punk & Rock: Usually sparks rebellion. (may be just the lyrics)
    Techno, Trance, Rave, Electronica, Club: Usually helps the mind become more active (which is why I listen to it in the mornin) and makes the person feel good about themselves...
    Ittalian Food: What I smell like right now
    Opera Music: Drama
    etc etc.

    classical and techno are the most powerfully effective but for different reasons... i posted the reason techno has such effects but I can't remember why classical is so effective =/
    They're both very different types of music but so is their effect and how it does it beyond the usual emotive placebo of music in general ^^

    ooh... I sound technical <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

    If you liked those you should go out and pick up e-jay... it's probably only £5 or something silly by now and it's scarily easy to bash a tune togther with it; much like those ones <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Techno hurts my head after a short period of listening to it. Small doses is all right. I like Fury Techno above all other techno's though.

    Music totally does things for my mood... and I can't help but grooooooove to some of it ;p

    What really gets me though, are really good guitar solos...

    I wish I could find more aggressive dance techno though. I'm not sure if trance falls into the 'techno' category... some of it's nice, but it's just not -aggressive- enough. Hard house crossed with techno? :/

    good instrumental music (by that i mean anything without intelligible words) really gets into a human brain and changes how we think. it can help our weak points!

    for instance, i am apathetic and analytical by nature so really spacey but fast and hard paced music is orgasmic to me. Infected Mushroom. download it and then buy the album tonight.

    for some, its guitar solos and for others its classical, even some of the louder slipknot songs can help people concentrate because it sets the rhythm with which the rest of the body operates and therefore frees the mind.

    ever notice how pop songs have one beat and stick to it all the way through? the manufactured artists have it right, keeping a steady rhythm is awesome, and not having words helps us ignore connotations and keeps us from thinking about the idiocy of the singer... country music = blech, i dont want to hear that guy complain about his woman one more time... rap music = blech, i dont want to hear that guy complain about his cops one more time... techno = roxxor, i dont have to listen to anyone's complaining but my own mind, whihc is great for focus.

    you might like Paul Oakenfold, get one of his huge files, there are recordings of concerts hes done and its not ahrd to find a two hour mp3 of smooth trance.

    oh, lastly, Theory of Trance. its cheaply made garage band type, but therefore more awesome...
