    Well, we are fine with help, we just have more slots left available for people to choose from. This project is not desperate as those poor few interperate. Go read our forums and website for more info on how you can help.

    Quaunaut, when you were browsing the forum(http://s2.invisionfree.com/Natural_Selection/) for weeks on end, did it occur to you that the huge bold print in the announcement forum might be relevant to your troubles?

    Yeah, sure you can ahve your old job back

    As bong just indirectly mentioned... We moved to a new site and new forums almost two weeks ago (Don't you read the Announcements?). The link is in our signatures here.

    Sorry to burst your bubble, but theresa couple of things I need to point out:

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Bongfarmer: No one has ever tried to attempt this before <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    This idea has been realised dosens of times before, most notably in the "militia" series of Counter-Strike movies (Militia 2 was over 30 minutes long), and also in several DoD movies. Have a browse around <a href='http://www.planetfortress.com/hlmp/' target='_blank'>http://www.planetfortress.com/hlmp/</a>

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->As for animations, we will most likely be using a custom made program that will allow us to record everytihng on the server via server logs, then export it into a format that we can use in a 3D modelling program - so we can do everything we want - we can make any custom animations we want and add the models and everything else. This means we can make all the motions that are in the storyboard<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    I'll be <b>very</b> interested to see one of you write this piece of software (I'll save you some time here and tell you that there is no possible way you're going to write a piece of software that can do that). If you are referring to Larsons gworx software, this is not what it does. You are going to have to make a choice between rendering the entire movie in 3dsm, or recording it via demos and HL cameras.

    Good luck with the project guys, I would offer to help if you had some slightly more realistic ideas, and tbh if you can't even keep the team page on your website updated then I don't see how you plan to organise a team of over 20 people.

    I'm sorry you are WRONG
    Bong is correct.
    Its his wording that lead you to believe he was wrong.
    GWorx the company that made Militia 2 used alot of Machineima to make them.

    This is being done with the game engine like Militia was.
    Also when he says "No one has ever done this before" Hes correct.
    NO COMMUNITY has ever made something like this. Gworx is a company. Also this is being done with Demos, Militia and Militia2 were done with Machinima (mostly).

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->I'll be <b>very</b> interested to see one of you write this piece of software (I'll save you some time here and tell you that there is no possible way you're going to write a piece of software that can do that). Who says they are writing it. Whos says they don't already have something like this? I don't think Bong would make a statement like that if he didn't have it covered. Try having an Open mind.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Good luck with the project guys, I would offer to help if you had some slightly more realistic ideas, and tbh if you can't even keep the team page on your website updated then I don't see how you plan to organise a team of over 20 people.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    Good negitive attitude you have.
    Try going to the Forums or even the site and reading up on the project before you slam it. Or try reading the Interview I did with them a few posts up.

    Gworx did not make Militia 2, A guy by the nickname of The_Family_God made it with a group of fans from the CS community. TFG, Larson & a few others later joined up to form "Gworx".

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Also this is being done with Demos, Militia and Militia2 were done with Machinima (mostly).<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    Militia 1 & 2 were recorded in half life with demos. That is what Machinima is.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Who says they are writing it. I'm stating that what Mister Bongfarmer claimed is simply not possible! Read what he said - "we will most likely be using a custom made program" - this suggests to me that one of you thinks that it will be possible to write this piece of software.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Whos says they don't already have something like this? <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    As I said before - if you were referring to the gworx software (This is the only piece of software that comes close to bongfarmers description) then you're in for a surprise because that is not what the software does. Also it belongs to Larson and I doubt he'd give you it.

    <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->Try going to the Forums or even the site and reading up on the project before you slam it.  Or try reading the Interview I did with them a few posts up.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
    It is reading the interview and (especially) reading the forums that gives me the general impression that most of the people working on this dont know what they're talking about and just have a load of crazy ideas that in the end arent going to become reality. Sorry, but its my opinion.

    this seems like a project of huge ambition

    and if you really DO want it to work - you need to listen to all your naysayers (mercicoror or whatever) and start addressing the little things

    a lot of projects like these fail because no one looks at the reality of the concept

    to quote your interview:
    1. Xentor: Honestly, I have no idea. This is a first for all of us [...]
    2. Alvin: I think everyone here is just as excited as you are. I personally have never done anything like this.

    i would advise putting together a few 10 minute shorts, just so you work the kinks out of the way. what you're doing is akin to me deciding to make ten million dollars by tomorrow. probably not going to happen without a lot of practice and failure. there's no shame in starting small

    As rage said, it is already been planned, and has been in the works for quite some time.

    As for the website... Well, you would be amazed at the amount of people who applied for things, changed their minds, dissapeared, came back, wanted different roles etc... it has generaly been felt that the Team list will be updated once we begin actual production and have all team members in place, otherwise it'll have to be updated nearly twice every day.

    do you have any demo products?

    at this point, i would wager a lot more on the creators of RedvsBlue.com than I would on a team with 0 experience and a big idea.

    [edit]
    frankly, what i'm trying to say is: i would be interested in signing onto this project but so far it sounds like every other over-ambitious project begun by people who don't exactly know what they're getting into.

    if you can show me a product, or even meaningful progress - then i'd be far more interested.

    I can use 3D Studio MAX. heres an example of my most recent scene render (Samus from metroid- modeled by me) <a href='http://users.ev1.net/~michaell/backlit.jpg' target='_blank'>Metroid scene</a>

    Anyways, it sounds like some fun and I can volunteer to do some environment modeling in 3D studio max, like the space station or whereever the movie will take place. I'm gonna read through your forums later tonight to see what could be done.

    To set the record straight, Mercior, I dont think there has ever been a <b>full length</b> movie, and we have already <b>proven</b> that what we are planning to do is far more than possible, and it is unlike anything else out there

    We already have most of our script planned out, and we are going to do film and edit the movie one scene at a time, we are not going to do it in huge increments.

    Ayatollah, we have most everything worked out and arn't kidding around, contact me in private if you want to learn more. GoldenShadow we would love to have you on board - we still need a lot more modelers

    I have experience scripting in C++ for a role-playing community right now, in fact, I'm making the promotion video (powered in full 3D by the Neverwinter Nights Engine and movie is 100% C++ script) for them right now, and they tell me that my work's fantastic. I'm a die-hard NSer too, though, and this project looks very interesting, so I'll help all I can once I'm done and I'll move over here.

    Well, I admit we're still in an early stage of production, but we have made serious progress.

    The script, which falls mainly (Though not exclusively) into my jurisdiction, is all planned and outlined in detail, so only the dialogue itself remains to be written. Planetkiller and I are, I believe, quite capable of finishing what we've started. I would love to demonstrate our progress, but I'm sure you can see the logic of not revealing the script before the movie is even filmed. It would really kill the impact.

    All I'm willing to say about it right now is that in the screenwriting department, we're looking at this like a hollywood movie. It may be based on a game, but "Humans vs. Aliens" is only part of the story.

    Maybe you should team up with the dudes that are making the rendered movie ...ah I forget what its called, but it was on RR.Org once. They could use cgi effects with ya. The whole problem with using the game that I see is that the skulks need to appear fast, extreamly fast moving and what not, and using the game...that is gonna be a little hard.

    Good luck anyways!!

    It will NOT be released as a demo. That is definate.

    To those who have doubts about us, I'd like to point out that though we haven't done this before, hardly anyone actually HAS done it before. Also, just because we haven't done it before doesn't mean that we don't know how to do it, or that we haven't had experience in other prjects that require similar skills.

    I've just discovered a really cool looking program which might be of use to you. Not sure if you guys already know about this, but if you don't then you might consider registering it and buying the full version. I havn't had a chance to check out the shareware version yet, but if it does what it says then I'd buy it without a doubt, as it looks so awsome.

    I would just like to say thank you to all who have participated in this thread, even the people with the negative comments. Truth is, you have all inspired and motivated us. So, thank you, again.

    Now, I am posting to recruit anyone with modeling and/or skinning talent. My team needs people who are dedicated to see this project to the end. If anyone is interested, please stop by the <a href='http://nsmovie.ralphygn.com/forums/index.php' target='_blank'>Natural Selection Movie Forum</a> and register today. We need need help with the modeling and skinning of original characters.

    We should also have a couple of actor roles still open for people to take as well, but right now its boiling down to skinners, and modeling.
