if its to distract the marine and give the aliens a better chance the mission acomlished, but im sorry the gun and the muzzel flash still = too much, since u cant remove this i have been charging at rines left hand side and once u get close enought they lose site and miss, doenst take much from tehre to just chew em down, and its not like i get much of a advantage i lose motion in the process of turnning it off , i have been using commands like cg_drawgun 0 in q3 sof2 and r_drawviewmodel 0 in ns,, why is banned, i still dont see why u blocked this cvar

    Because it's a part of the game that the gun blocks a bit of your vision, just like it's a part of the game that you can't see through walls. If you keep the alien in the centre of the screen (where your crosshair is), there's no problem. It's not like 1.04 anymore you know.

    Because it's lame, and detracts from the atmosphere of the game. And if you can't appreciate something being done to enhance the game's atmosphere at the expense of a minor tweak, you're playing the wrong game.

    i havent really notice that muzzle thing untill i remmembered dying while spamming bulelts, i couldent remmeber wot was blocking my vision, but it must have been that muzzle thingy.

    but hey, its like in real life, u shoot and u get a flash, isnt taht right ?. ish coool bro ishhh coool!

    if u like the atmosphere of the game , then leave it on.

    there shoudl be a option none the less for us who wish to remove it, and in "real life" muzzel flash isnt a bright white dot that kills ur vision. i can leave the gun on in games like even quake but no matter this games gun is just too annoying.

    u try vsing ppl who have been playing since 1.0 can bunny hoop the speed of light and know to jump to ur left to get u looking through ur gun going oh crap,

    another thing can we also plz have custom crosshairs just a few to chose from, these current ones althou look nice which is what was probably intended is like the other thing,, something i wish to change to enjoy ns more.

    as far as customisation goes ns = 2 thumbs down

    You can change sprite files. However, it's not recommended. I think it fails consistency checks. Plus, you get used to them (I'm still working on getting used to the lmg xhair).

    As far as r_drawviewmodel, NO. It's meant to encourage BURST fire, and to encourage skulks to CHECK their targets. It's only really a problem when shooting skulks, but even cara skulks die to relatively few shots. Just learn to hit your target and BURST. This was, like, a standard skill in 1.04... I'm guessing the new, smaller muzzle flash has gotten rid of it.

    u can change the crosshairs but due to im in a clan and i war like every week at least i need to be used to standard i could easly find the gun model and wipe it out but in wars it will be back due to pure server,


    even if r_drawviewmodel stays(probably the modeler for the guns was extreamly pist off) then fair enough, but there isnt a fps today i havnt played w/o my dot as a crosshair.

    even the old one used to rule 4 dots (or arrows) that was useful when shooting down what ever u were aiming for, now u got crosshirs the size of the skulk,

    once again makes it harder to hit things,, if ppl were to try the dot and remove the gun they probably woudl ahve a increase in accuracy they wouldnt believe and the comms of ns 2.0 publics wouldnt be pulling there hair out

    i can hardly kill skulks keeping my aim on them,, that is skulks with skill, newbs die in like 10 bullets, good players are normaly around the corner and at my feet w/i the second, yes we ave timmed it i dont even get a clip off and im easly dead and i have done it to them, thou there better then me i can normaly take them down.

    A lot of things, not just the muzzle flash sprite and gun model get affected by using r_drawviewmodel 0. Motion tracking obviously won't work with r_drawviewmodel 0 and I can't remember if waypoints do either, you won't see how much health buildings have and aiming at skulks that are close up gets much, much easier. They shrunk the muzzle sprite so less people would be as annoyed and they locked the r_drawviewmodel to 1 because it does give you quite a big unfair advantage and it detracts a huge amount from the atmosphere.

    I don't think there is any chance what so ever to get the devs to allow r_drawviewmodel 1 again as it has been debated to death and most of the devs consider it an exploit.

    it's designed to keep the game as flayra wants it.

    Also the community viewed it as an exploit so they blocked it in 2.0

    oh, and the muzzle flash and skulk bite have been greatly reduced in 2.0

    It is an exploit because it gives you an advantage other players do not have. Simple as that.

    As with the new crosshair I like it, you have to know how to use it, you are not a "elite" sniper going for uber accuracy. Try to start firing as ur crosshair passes over the skulk you are tracking, just as it starts to touch it, becuase the crosshair gives you an approximation of your firing cone you will start hitting the skulk this early.

    lol na found a way to remove the gun from my screen(and teeth),, god its so sweet,, call me a hack all u want it gets taken away from me and i just wont play ns anymore,, cant believe ppl cryed so much that flaya took it away.

    its not like a aimbot or wall hack, but if im forced to play with the gun on my screen i will return back to other games i also play, if u think it was a advantage then use it yourself.

    this is the onyl game where i have had to force my gun away w/o a cmd, which i find as sad, btw got the old crosshairs back also,, the game has changed but i should be able to remove it.

    "Doesn't give an advantage" my freaking ****.........with r_drawviewmodel 0, you can (I should say, could) see where the gun would normally be, making it 10x easier to get skulks if they were there....

    As far as I know xhairs are not checked by consistency and won't be any time soon (dot xhairs rule). As for everybody jumping on him about the way he plays...you guys should see some of the accepted Q3 configs that people play with, where the gamma and picmip are cranked up so high it looks like whitewall textures and all enemy models are bright promode green. I have never really been able to tell why there is such a vast difference in mindsets between Q3 players and HL players. People in Q3 accept that tweaking the game to run best for you is a skill in and of itself, and usually will recognize this when beaten. People in half life will normally accept nothing other than "he is hacking, cheating, playing cheap, or exploiting" when they are beaten. Might as well get used to this fact if you're any good Kardin. As far as I'm concerned as long as someone isn't aimbotting, wallhacking, or doing some blatantly obvious exploit, I could care less. (I am in CAL and play default everything except my xhairs before you jump on my back...)

    I was working on a set of weapon models models a while back that basically removed the model from the screen (I wasn't trying to make hax models though, so no flaming). After one game where I took down five fades with an LMG on my own (defending the old cargo hive on ns_nothing) I realised that this was just about the most horribly dodgy thing I'd ever done in a game, and promptly discontinued the model set.

    Anyone who says drawviewmodel isn't an exploit is delusional.

    Its psychological.

    If you're paying attention to where you're shooting (you are, since you were experimenting without a weapon model) you WILL aim better. Normally, you wouldn't have taken out the fades because you wouldn't have been as <i>attentive</i>, not because the lack of a weapon model makes a huge difference.

    I hear ns_placebo_effect 1 also increases your damage rate!

    Come on, you don't have to flame him for asking a simple question.

    As for the reason it was removed -- People were using it to give them an unfair advantage as aliens and marines. The thinking behind the use of it was that if you remove the weapon model, you could see everything on the screen, including items that would be hidden because of weapon animations (a skulk bite) or the weapon itself. Since the game was not intended to be played like this, this option was removed to level the playing field for everyone

    Essentialy, all he has done is stopped "Playing" the game. If he is so worried about keeping his screen clear, so he can shoot things better, it is obvious to me that all he cares about is getting kills, which we know is NOT what NS is about.

    I mean, it is a game right? And if he has fun killing things (as opposed to say, running up to gorges and CUDDLING THEM) I say we let him.

    Some people have fun with strategy, so they comm.     But someone unfairly killing your fellow aliens is detrimental to a whole team's enjoyment. He might be having fun, but he'll be annoying the hell out of half the people on the server. Hence it's dodgy.

    NS is about have a good time. the removal of the scoreboard had allowed newbies and skilled players to have fun without worruing about your score. If you care about kills (im gonna get flamed for this, but, what the hey) go back to CS

    oh well i am 100% happy with ns, and now if people think its wrong for me to do this then so be it, they are alloud to think that and im happy for them to stand up for what they believe in,

    as for me laying down my gun and stop playing , no, if u think this is a hack then i openly admit that

    its not like i have tweaked the game so it looks like the white hall of colour wash, i run it in 1280 x 960 with 32 bit,,

    i only get a few fps and some times not even 60 , 30 in fights if that <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->.. but hey its how i want it to look and i am now happy.

    1st thing ... crosshairs are fine ... muszzle flashs are graetly improoved as a visual stand point ... but the freaking lights that it emits is **** .... the red and purple that makes the models change color so u cannot see a damn thing ... ive tried to kill skulks with it ... its not to hard... the models are so dodgey ... its nice that they look more real but the skulk model is kinda **** now ... holding strafe and strafing into a marine ... the model looks nothing like what ur about to look at and kill .. it looks like its about to turn and run away yet sumhow the damn thing chomps u ... ive died from that kinda crap alot ... im not a newb ...

    the red lights is far to annoying and the skulks who are charging for u turn red too .. and a red skulk on a red wall with a red gun and a blended in crosshair makes a marine a very ez target ... burst firing works when they are running away but when there right ontop of u ... u have no choice but to spam to kill the lil **** ...

    atleaste change the colors of the guns when it fires to yellow or sumthing brighter instead of red and purple for abit more of an effect

    ns is about kills ... may not be on scoreboard .. but it gets u res ... killing a marine costs marines money sumtimes .. and gets ur res ... if ns wasnt about killing then every1 would be running around shaking hands
