if its to distract the marine and give the aliens a better chance the mission acomlished, but im sorry the gun and the muzzel flash still = too much, since u cant remove this i have been charging at rines left hand side and once u get close enought they lose site and miss, doenst take much from tehre to just chew em down, and its not like i get much of a advantage i lose motion in the process of turnning it off , i have been using commands like cg_drawgun 0 in q3 sof2 and r_drawviewmodel 0 in ns,, why is banned, i still dont see why u blocked this cvar

And isn't that a bit cheating, so you can see more than others......
there shoudl be a option none the less for us who wish to remove it, and in "real life" muzzel flash isnt a bright white dot that kills ur vision. i can leave the gun on in games like even quake but no matter this games gun is just too annoying.
u try vsing ppl who have been playing since 1.0 can bunny hoop the speed of light and know to jump to ur left to get u looking through ur gun going oh crap,
another thing can we also plz have custom crosshairs just a few to chose from, these current ones althou look nice which is what was probably intended is like the other thing,, something i wish to change to enjoy ns more.

as far as customisation goes ns = 2 thumbs down
game play is nice still none the less, and a rts/fps has been long awaited
You can change sprite files. However, it's not recommended. I think it fails consistency checks. Plus, you get used to them (I'm still working on getting used to the lmg xhair).
As far as r_drawviewmodel, NO. It's meant to encourage BURST fire, and to encourage skulks to CHECK their targets. It's only really a problem when shooting skulks, but even cara skulks die to relatively few shots. Just learn to hit your target and BURST. This was, like, a standard skill in 1.04... I'm guessing the new, smaller muzzle flash has gotten rid of it.
even if r_drawviewmodel stays(probably the modeler for the guns was extreamly pist off) then fair enough, but there isnt a fps today i havnt played w/o my dot as a crosshair.
even the old one used to rule 4 dots (or arrows) that was useful when shooting down what ever u were aiming for, now u got crosshirs the size of the skulk,
once again makes it harder to hit things,, if ppl were to try the dot and remove the gun they probably woudl ahve a increase in accuracy they wouldnt believe and the comms of ns 2.0 publics wouldnt be pulling there hair out

I don't think there is any chance what so ever to get the devs to allow r_drawviewmodel 1 again as it has been debated to death and most of the devs consider it an exploit.
Also the community viewed it as an exploit so they blocked it in 2.0
oh, and the muzzle flash and skulk bite have been greatly reduced in 2.0
As with the new crosshair I like it, you have to know how to use it, you are not a "elite" sniper going for uber accuracy. Try to start firing as ur crosshair passes over the skulk you are tracking, just as it starts to touch it, becuase the crosshair gives you an approximation of your firing cone you will start hitting the skulk this early.
its not like a aimbot or wall hack, but if im forced to play with the gun on my screen i will return back to other games i also play, if u think it was a advantage then use it yourself.
this is the onyl game where i have had to force my gun away w/o a cmd, which i find as sad, btw got the old crosshairs back also,, the game has changed but i should be able to remove it.

exploit, no u cant name it that as its not something that was over looked nor does it really give any advantage, and also if it was put in to try and put ppls aim off, then expect me to try and force it away

Anyone who says drawviewmodel isn't an exploit is delusional.
If you're paying attention to where you're shooting (you are, since you were experimenting without a weapon model) you WILL aim better. Normally, you wouldn't have taken out the fades because you wouldn't have been as <i>attentive</i>, not because the lack of a weapon model makes a huge difference.
I hear ns_placebo_effect 1 also increases your damage rate!

As for the reason it was removed -- People were using it to give them an unfair advantage as aliens and marines. The thinking behind the use of it was that if you remove the weapon model, you could see everything on the screen, including items that would be hidden because of weapon animations (a skulk bite) or the weapon itself. Since the game was not intended to be played like this, this option was removed to level the playing field for everyone
I mean, it is a game right? And if he has fun killing things (as opposed to say, running up to gorges and CUDDLING THEM) I say we let him.
Some people have fun with strategy, so they comm. Some people have fun shooting stuff, so they play marines. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> And I have yet to see a time when killing a skulk was detrimental to the team. (Although firing randomly at structures is an altogether different issue)
But someone unfairly killing your fellow aliens is detrimental to a whole team's enjoyment. He might be having fun, but he'll be annoying the hell out of half the people on the server. Hence it's dodgy.
as for me laying down my gun and stop playing , no, if u think this is a hack then i openly admit that
its not like i have tweaked the game so it looks like the white hall of colour wash, i run it in 1280 x 960 with 32 bit,,
i only get a few fps and some times not even 60 , 30 in fights if that <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->.. but hey its how i want it to look and i am now happy.
the red lights is far to annoying and the skulks who are charging for u turn red too .. and a red skulk on a red wall with a red gun and a blended in crosshair makes a marine a very ez target ... burst firing works when they are running away but when there right ontop of u ... u have no choice but to spam to kill the lil **** ...
atleaste change the colors of the guns when it fires to yellow or sumthing brighter instead of red and purple for abit more of an effect
