erm why the hell should u get special treatment just cos ur a constelation member? if you want a reserved slot then u damn well give the server op money.
Should I get special treatment on Day of Defeat servers for buying the retail version? No. I'd rather earn my special treatment by being an ok guy. I'm still hoping someone on CoFR will notice me and give me a reserve slot, but I guess that takes time.

Well, its not <i>that</i> bad, but seriously, don't bring in the "you have more money so you should be paying and thats that" thingy. It reminds me too much of a tax system that I hate.
I will keep this as straight-forward and simple as I can. The little symbol beside your name <i>is not</i> seen outside of the game. That's that. Even if an admin outside of the game did not want to kick a Constellation member, they have no way to tell who is and who isn't. You get kicked either out of blind luck, because you were the last person to join (which is usually the case--and sounds like the case in all of Majin's situations), or maybe other factors... who knows?

Ok, after reading 5 pages of the same crap being batted back and forth between us "working class" NS players and the "upper class fox-hunting toffs" constellation members, i suppose i should add my 2c.
This entire thread has been flamebait, a good deal of arrogance and pretentiousness has been liberally thrown about and it's all a pile of crap tbh.
Allow me to quote the <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/const.html' target='_blank'>constellation page</a>: <!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->This shows everyone on the server that you officially and proudly support ongoing NS development. There are no gameplay effects associated with membership, only this icon.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> That's for all of you that believe that the Constellation members deserve equipment and kit in-game before anyone else, even more skilled players. Flayra has intended that no gameplay changes be made because you are a Constellation member, so why go against his wishes that you're throwing your hard-earned money to?
Don't get me wrong, i am <b>pleased</b> that people are donating (when i finally get off my arse i will, i swear i will) and you have my <b>thanks</b> and my <b>gratitude</b> for supporting Flayra and the team progress with this great game, but as many people before me have stated that <b>respect</b> must be earned, you can't buy it.
As many people have stated the 2-3 kicks from the servers were freak coincidences, i play a <i>lot</i> of NS and this has only happened to me a minute number of times (playing for several hours daily for a few months straight i've been kicked about twice). You got unlucky, a script didn't favour you in some way, but sorry, that's the way the cookie crumbles dude.
The point in a donation is that it's done without expecting something in return, hell, you get an icon in game, that's a hell of a lot more than you get for donating to anything else. Better than a crappy little paper sticker you get when you give money to a charity. Guys, you supported the game monetarily, that's fantastic, seriously, but pull your heads out of your arses and realise that you can't buy respect.
ok... stop going around in circles... there is no more point in arguing... 1. sorry to see that you got kicked 3 times in one day... havent experienced that myself but I haven't playeed on a server with reserved slots. Must be a pain though. 2. in reply to the topic title: Respect? what do you mean by respect... im sure there is some respect in this world but don't expect it... to simply put it... and i wouldnt use the word respect... because that world makes it seem like you think you are special, though we are all just another player when it come to playing ns. (personally... when i hear the word respect i think. i respect my friend becasue he has been kind and nice to me for years. i respect my parents becasue they are older than me and are the ones who raised me.) for you i give thanks and gratitude... which should be enuff of a reason to not kick constellation members... but most kicks are automatic kicks or by admins that are not ingame. i feel that it is a pain to be kicked 3 times but there should not be enoughf concern to post it in this forum/board. (i mean there is a server ops board too) and finally why don't you give thanks to the server admins for runing ther servers you play on. (instead of giving them this respect crap) as far as this thread... i think we should stop talking. he posted his concern... it has streched to 5 pages and it should stop
-thank you constellation members -thank you server admins -thank you ns mirrors -thank you ns team -- without none of em i would not be enjoying natural selection 2.0 oh and thank you newbies... because you are the only ones i can seem to kill.. heh.. jk

Funny... I played for 6 or 7 hours this weekend and wasn't kicked once. You got unlucky; deal with it. Hopefully it won't happen so often again. No one likes to be kicked, but believe me, the admins had no vandetta against you for being a constellation member.
i really dont get why the constelation is so important if someone can explain to me??is flayra like paying the ns team to help him??actually that made alot of sense but is this true??i would become one now but i think that its to late for the little icon there since it was hard coded into ns and i would have to wait till the nearest client patch again....
I hate auto kicks, really impersonal. But they did warn you first, seems you aren't as "in" with them as you thought. The net can be a **** like that.
I do know several constellation members who do it for the love of the game, not as a way to buy respect. I plan on putting some of my earnings this month thru constellation, I am debating whether I will submit my wonid. All the best - Tink
This thread gonna be soooo lockz0red. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyways, back to the discussion. If <i>any</i> of you bothered to read the first page, you would notice that Majin's standpoint is strictly derivative of the words that MonsE posted on the same page. It <b>is</b>, in fact disrespectful to disregard the Constellation members.
Yes, I can forgive someone RCON-kicking a constellation member in ignorance.
You see, the wonderful thing about Flayra's <i>concept</i> for the Ns community was that it was not a selfish one. It was not supposed to be from the start-the excellent admins have made sure thus far. Unfortunately, the community has become corrupted as of late; this is inevitable as the community grows larger. What the Constellation perks really ARE are respect. No, respect most certainly does <i>not</i> mean favoritism. This is a kind of......reverent respect. Keep in mind that these Constellation members are nearly as much responsible for NS as the entire Dev crew and playtesters are.
So I do not propose that Constellation members get priveleges that others don't-I am suggesting that the community get back to its roots before it turns into another Counter-Strike <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> When you see a constellation member in a server, <i>remember</i> that you should not brush them off-you shouldn't always selfishly expect something in return for treating the Constellation members civilly (which is what is <b>definitely</b> at the root of this entire discussion. The naysayers are saying, "yeah...but what do WE get? Why shuld we revere anyone unless they've given to <i>us</i>")
So please-consider your actions before you make arses out of yourselves, and the community as a whole.

It pays for things like webserver costs right down to Flayra's bread and butter, as i'm lead to believe. Flayra has taken about three years off from paid employment to develop Natural Selection and every Constellation donation helps him survive and helps him spend more time on Natural Selection as opposed to having to quit the project to find a job.
The Constellation icons can be updated at any time, they're not hardcoded into Natural Selection itself. Basically all the users WONid's are stored in an online database, when you authenticate with WON / NS it detects your WONid and checks to see if you're a Constellation member, if so, you get the icon. This takes several hours to update globally, but can be done in a day rather than having to release a new client or server patch.

Majin, what's your average ping? I know that at least one of the reserve slot plugins works by kicking one player when a reservist tries to join a full server. However, the player kicked is not random, it's whoever has the highest ping. I don't think that's very fair, but it's just the way the plugin is written.
If your ping is particularly high, this would explain why you were constantly the first to be kicked. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> He is very right. Majin this is the answer to your question. Most servers out there are running adminmod. This is set to kick the highest pinger so a clan member or server regular can get in the server. If you are kicked it is most likely because you have bad ping and are being tossed by a script. Please do not take out your frustrations out on the server admins, they are kind enough to let you play on a server which they own, mind you it costs a pretty penny out of most of them. It's great that your a constellation member but that has nothing to do with how adminmod works and that will never change. If you don't want to be kicked, I would suggest getting a better internet connection, like a DSL or CABLE connection.
For all the server admins out there that have reserved slots on their server, I would suggest downloading plugin_sank_consgreet which allows you to post info to the player before he/she is joining. In this text file you should post that the player is not guaranteed a slot because there are others that may need to get in, etc. Just to give the player a warning and not to make them mad because they thought they were kicked for being a newbie or something like that. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd--> Sorry but thats not correct! Some of you have missed my point, Thankfully some have not! I am a Constellation member, so are lots of others but in general I would guess that 1 in every 300 people might be a constellation member, the only reason you see us around in numbers is becasue most constellation members are hardcore NS lovers and play to stay alive. We Love NS and the community so we donated not for the Icon or any special Treatment but to help everyone get to play NS 2.0 sooner. Anyone can Donate but don't do it to just get an Icon, do it becasue you want to help Flayra and thank him for all this sexy game! When you see a COnstellation member, you should be happy hes on your server, the more you see the more you know that your on a server where people really love NS.
My point and what Monse said is basicly this: Thank the Constelation members by making them the last to be kicked to free up a spot on your server! Flayra asked the community on the main page (which is now down) to do this to thank us, so just try to remember the next time you see a constellation member that they helped you get to play NS 2.0.
Keep that in mind when you need to free up a server spot!
I hate auto kicks, really impersonal. But they did warn you first, seems you aren't as "in" with them as you thought. The net can be a **** like that.

Pretty much sucks for you, and there really is nothing you can do about it. In no way shape or form can you.
Yes, auto-kick does suck. We just all have to tough up, and wait for this kick. I've been kicked 2 times, since I installed NS 2.0. And I thought I was well known in the server community, bummer.
This probably is way off topic, but I just played on a server that kicked people who had 200 ping or higher. 200 ping > = kick, y = ban, they said. Sounds pathetic, I know.
And now, I didnt mean the whole "rich" thing. I simply think that even though they're very nice people and it's very nice of them to donate money, they shouldnt be held to a much higher status than the others and expect privileges.
well here in the land of kangaroos and boomerangs and beer we have exactly 29 ns servers currently (2 more servers pending a freeBSD patch) ... 20 of which are run by various cable/adsl isps, so in any game you can probably expect to be kicked in peak times if it aint your isp, and theyre usually full. where I was going with this post is beyond me. oh yeah, freebsd patch ye bastds!
i'm a constellation member, but dont really expect to get wpns dropped for me because of that (i expect weapons to be dropped for me anyway - you can't win the game without equipment)
I expect to be treated well on the server I play on too, but thats because i donate to that as well <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo--> I wont get kicked either, but thats because I have a reserved slot:)
When i comm, I dont drop weapons for hte best players - thats just sad. It is afterall only a game. I'll drop weapons for whoever needs them, or who hasn't had a go with the new GL or whatever - enjoyment is a big factor in playing the games, and i always try and make sure people enjoy playing when I comm.
for instance, i'll give meds even if we are low on res and getting hammered by onos, i'll drop 3 ips to get people back into the game as soon as possible, and i'll drop lots of equipment for people just so they can have a play with it.
By example - the reason a 2hive lockdown was dull on 1.04 is because you played the whole game as a skulk - playing the whole game as a vanilla marine is just as dull.
If constellation members keep thinking they should have priviledges and whining for being autokicked , they should have their icons removed to force them to behave normally... As esuna found out , Flayra explicitely said that being a constellation member does not give you any in game advantage , just the icon. Seeing a blue icon won't make me give a shotgun , seeing a yellow medal one will , since the veterans are known to be the most skilled players in the NS community. Giving money to the devs doesn't give you the right to reserved slots , you have to pay for the server instead. Higher pings should always be autokicked first , unless they contribute to pay or own the server.

actually, I have a way to solve this.
Too bad S&I is down. Well, here it goes-
Why not have Flayra hard-code something into the server parameters, so when someone is auto-kicked, it'll consider people without Constellation?
I'm not sure if its possible with just server coding, but maybe someone could make some plugins for adminmod/amxmod/(metamod? don't know what it is, its a server mod, ain't it?)

and here i state my thanks to all the constellation members. if i see you in game, i'll devour you and keep you nice and safe in my warm belly <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
btw I think it was just an unlucky day for you <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->
This entire thread has been flamebait, a good deal of arrogance and pretentiousness has been liberally thrown about and it's all a pile of crap tbh.
Allow me to quote the <a href='http://www.natural-selection.org/const.html' target='_blank'>constellation page</a>:
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->This shows everyone on the server that you officially and proudly support ongoing NS development. There are no gameplay effects associated with membership, only this icon.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That's for all of you that believe that the Constellation members deserve equipment and kit in-game before anyone else, even more skilled players.
1. sorry to see that you got kicked 3 times in one day... havent experienced that myself but I haven't playeed on a server with reserved slots.
(personally... when i hear the word respect i think. i respect my friend becasue he has been kind and nice to me for years. i respect my parents becasue they are older than me and are the ones who raised me.)
for you i give thanks and gratitude... which should be enuff of a reason to not kick constellation members... but most kicks are automatic kicks or by admins that are not ingame.
i feel that it is a pain to be kicked 3 times but there should not be enoughf concern to post it in this forum/board. (i mean there is a server ops board too)
and finally why don't you give thanks to the server admins for runing ther servers you play on. (instead of giving them this respect crap)
as far as this thread... i think we should stop talking. he posted his concern... it has streched to 5 pages and it should stop
-thank you constellation members
-thank you server admins
-thank you ns mirrors
-thank you ns team
-- without none of em i would not be enjoying natural selection 2.0
oh and thank you newbies... because you are the only ones i can seem to kill.. heh.. jk
*edit*... ghaw <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo--> ... i hate it when like 5 other posts appear as i write. **
You got unlucky; deal with it. Hopefully it won't happen so often again.
No one likes to be kicked, but believe me, the admins had no vandetta against you for being a constellation member.
I do know several constellation members who do it for the love of the game, not as a way to buy respect. I plan on putting some of my earnings this month thru constellation, I am debating whether I will submit my wonid. All the best - Tink
The Constellation program is a <b>donation</b> to Flayra and to Natural Selection itself.
If your ping is particularly high, this would explain why you were constantly the first to be kicked. <!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
He is very right.
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Sorry but thats not correct!
I ping in the low 60s and the highest is the uper 80-90s
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->You see, the wonderful thing about Flayra's concept for the Ns community was that it was not a selfish one.
My point and what Monse said is basicly this:
Thank the Constelation members by making them the last to be kicked to free up a spot on your server!
Flayra asked the community on the main page (which is now down) to do this to thank us, so just try to remember the next time you see a constellation member that they helped you get to play NS 2.0.
Keep that in mind when you need to free up a server spot!
I do know several constellation members who do it for the love of the game, not as a way to buy respect. I plan on putting some of my earnings this month thru constellation, I am debating whether I will submit my wonid. All the best - Tink
Yes, auto-kick does suck. We just all have to tough up, and wait for this kick. I've been kicked 2 times, since I installed NS 2.0. And I thought I was well known in the server community, bummer.
And now, I didnt mean the whole "rich" thing. I simply think that even though they're very nice people and it's very nice of them to donate money, they shouldnt be held to a much higher status than the others and expect privileges.
It'd be nice.
<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
I am not accusing you of being selfish, demanding or cheap, but you have not <b>Earned</b> my <b>Respect</b>. That is all I am saying, nothing less, and maybe only a little bit more.
PS: It costs less to live in Canada, income tax is lower and medical is covered <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo--> <!--QuoteEnd--> </td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'> <!--QuoteEEnd-->
ah yes ...
So high you are that you can't show respect to those you don't know? God forbid you show anyone any kind of respect, I mean ... these days people have to earn it, god damn it! People you meet don't deserve any kind of respect till they earn it, so, treat them like the **** you stepped in and removed from your shoe five minutes ago.
Yes, that will make the world a much better place to live in. Everyone treating everyone else like crap untill they 'earn' other people's respect.
<!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->
The fact is, they brought you this game. The least you could do for them is allow them to play it.
Quotes like this make me barf:
<!--QuoteBegin--></span><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->why should the server admins care? you didn't give THEM any money....<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
Such a self-serving attitude. People like this need a slap. The server ops wouldn't be even hosting this damn game if it weren't for people like Majin who gave some of their hard-earned money so it could be developed!
"Why should <b>I</b> respect YOU? Huh?"
The truth is, you should respect all, and only disrespect someone when they deserve it. <!--emo&--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif'><!--endemo-->
Let me give an example. I had respect for nearly everyone in this thread, untill they started making assinine comments on why they shouldn't give any respect or special privilages to those who funded this game.
This thread should be locked, stickied, and immortalized as one of the worst parts of our self-serving humanity. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo-->
You want respect? Read Monse's post again. There's your respect.
