I always played on this server too. Its the only one I could rely on to have good games and good players. Though I'm only average on the COFR server I find that if I go to any other server I do awesome. The skulks are always less lethal and the marines have worse aim on every other server. Besides being a great place for a good game, COFR FR31 me a better NS player.
I didn't play there lots of times but I've never been annoyed for being a foreigner player and that's really nice. The games were always interesting eventhough the pings wasn't good enough to make me come very often.. Gonna regret this server anyway. Hope to see you guys back soon!
Well thanks to Brutus for keeping it up, didn't really know the situation there. That sucks, because I had only recently started playing on CoFR, and some of the games I had on it were of a much higher level than anywhere else, even my normally frequented servers.
Sad to see it go.
No need to be overly pessimistic or depressed. Yes, the server is going down permanently but CoFR is a rather big and resourceful community, there will be solutions. If not before, I am sure that once 1.1 comes out and lower server usage a replacement will be found. I'm sure the admins will welcome the break, I know I and Mustard will
Of course whatever replaces it will not be FR31 but with such a good base of players I don't see how any replacement can be short of amazing. I and others are checking different solutions and we'll probably have something more specific in a few weeks.
Thanks for the support, guys, it means a lot. Now stop campng the boards and concentrate on "stress testing" the server, maybe we can make it burn up before the lease runs out
Awwww man. CoFR is the only server I really play on. I wasn't on enough to be a 'reg' but I tried. Time to find a new server then. Oh well. Any old CoFR players know where they'll be migrating to yet?
I want to make one thing clear. This has nothing to do with the Devs or NS. I have always and continue to think that NS is a great concept and a great game. I have supported NS since the start.
in the last month I have gotten ver busy and turned the operations over to Stoneburg and Mustard who have done a great job. They have made some changes, for the better, and that is who you should be thanking.
It has just gotten to the point that paying xxx amount of dollars for a server I don't have the time to monitor or play on just didn't feel right. I wish I could keep it up, but waiting to see if donations (which I hated to ask for in the first place) covered the expense every month.
The last day will be the 7 - 11th of July.
Thank you all for playing.
Edit: Just checked PMs today. Some people have been offering solutions, so I will let you know.
OK, after posting it was going down on the cofrfps.com forums I didn't check forums again until today. I will look for a solution, and try to keep it going.
I finally am out of school so I can play again! But now I learn my home is going down. God I will miss you guys so much. Keep in contact people and wait for something big.

This was a fantastic server and I'm quite sad to see it go. It was great while it lasted (I don't always play as "Flayra" of course).

Thanks Flayra. PM me your WON ID and you of course would get a reserve slot for when you do play there.
I am trying to work on a solution right now and I have a couple of options. To tell you the truth I have been kind of out of touch and did not realize the impact of the server. After hearing from people I will try and keep it going.
The only reason the server has been up this long is due to the people that play on it and the concept of NS itself.
Yeah I've had many great games on CoFR, it really was a great server that I will miss.
I would come and play some final games, but I broke my computer today (too many upgrades and not enough power make Jabbas PSU go boom )
Well it can be said that of all the public servers there we're maybe 3 to 5 I played on, and out of that there was only one I played every day that I played NS and at times that meant every day whenever I could. I think it's pretty obvious which one that was if I finally made a Forums account to do more with than just read posts, changelogs, and strats.
First off CoFR, whether you stay up or go down eiter way you we're the all time best place to play, best players, smartest strats, gaurunteed teamwork on both sides if the server was full, almost gaurunteed even on those off hours around 8 or 9 in the morning EST when it was down to me, Breakfast, and maybe a handful of other people that either couldn't sleep or we're getting on after rubbing crap out of thier eyes and trying to comb thier mat of hair down with thier hand.
A specail shoutout to Stoney, one of the reasons I think rules we're observed so heavily. Best Comm I've ever played for, one of the best gorges I've dealt with. Made a hell of an admin just by playing.
As for the players: (sorry if I forget anyone you can beat me down later) Waffles, all my curly fries are still belong to you, Breakfast you'll always own my skulk with an LMG, any other healthy Breakfast dishes of uber goodness you guys all rock. Nadsy, your attitude was only matched by your ability to tear through a section of 'rines with your teeth. And all the rest of the regulars, you're what it's all about when the term "good sportsmanship" is used. No WTH, or deragatory words barely had to be looked over in the server rules, because anyone that hung around long enough to play more than a day didn't need/want/or use them.
This was the pinacle of what a server could be, now I just need to get CD back, now that the computers been reformatted and jump back into the fray until things are finalized.
bwah by the looks of it Flay hasn't played on my server
I'm just wondering. If the server is full and someone with a reserved slot comes along does someone get bumped out? Because once I was the commander in that server and I got booted for no apparent reason. (I play as Hitman btw)

Nother bumping question. When you are bumped what happens? Every so often I get kicked to the main menu with an error along the lines of netpacket error: no error. Is this what happens when you get bumped?
Right now, I am busy-redialing CoFR's NS server. There are many NS servers with equal or better pings, but I've played many of them and can't stand them. I've waited twenty minutes for a slot and would gladly work on stuff in the meantime while I wait another twenty. I don't even like web boards (see post count) and have never in ~10 years of having an Internet connection posted in support of a video game, much less a game server.
The reason? CoFR has very few idiots and is almost exclusively filled with people who have been playing together for weeks. When a hive gets locked down, expect DC to go up and a concentrated skulk push to come within two minutes. No smacktard has gone sensory-first in at least the last hundred games I've played. Marines generally go where they are ordered to and not a single experienced comm who plays there is a one-trick horse. Edgy, dynamic, back-and-forth games happen every five or six games. There have been many times when games have come down a mass-knifing, mass-chomping, mass-destruction race in the last 30 seconds.
Simply put, I think CoFR's server is the game NS was intended to be -- not because of the game, but because of the players. Nearly ever other server I've played is a random collection of rambo madness, out-of-place WoLs, and voice comm screaming/music anthologies.
Before it goes down, you might want to check it out. They're almost all regulars. I kinda stink at this game, but it sure is a lot of fun here.

I'm sorry to see a widely recognised extremely good UK server going down.
Props to Brutus and all of the server admins (without server admins, us server ops would be somewhat overwhelmed!)
Adieu CoFRNS! or is it see you soon?

CoFR has probably the best games a pub could. It will be greatly missed.
One of my favorites.

Yes, that's exactly how it works. The criteria for who gets bumped can change from server to server. On some its whoever has the least amount of time on the server; on others its whoever has the highest ping.
The non-reserve with the highest ping gets bumped when a person with reserve slot joins (on our server).
Yes, it's too bad that sometimes a COM or gorge gets bumped.
Please start another thread if you want to discuss reserve slots and bumpage further.
