Whilst I appreciate that it sad to see servers go - picking out a single server (in this case COFR) and giving it funding is a little harsh on the rest of the server community don't you think ! Why the special treatment and is this setting a precedent that will be continued - will future struggling servers be given limited funds to prop them when they are about to be taken down ? Or is this only for "special" servers ?

What can I say except wow. I don't check forums that much any more and just got pointed to this.

Flayra, thank you very much. I can't accept it. The Constellation program was designed to help you maintain and build NS. That is what it should be used for.

The server will stay up. I am confident that with what we are working out the server will be up for a long time.

Thank you all for the positive comments. I have been out of touch and had no idea that FR31NS was still this popular. For some reason I was thinking that FR31 was waining, but I stand corrected.

Thanks again everyone, and the generous off Flayra. This is the reason why I always thought NS was great. The people involved.

Flay, another hearty CoFR "Thank you." I haven't been around in a few weeks (Danged DoD dragged me away) and was surprised all this was happening. I don't think anyone really knew what kind of an impact FR31NS had on the community, we're all doing Neo "Whoa!" takes. Thanks.

I've had good chats with you, MonsE, manah and others on the team; you guys rock, and we're just glad we can make your game what it was meant to be.

Just FYI, Im sure you could setup the Pokeytang Gaming Servers for free to be just like your servers that you are paying for. I`m sure they wouldnt have any problems with making a clone of your current NS server(s) using the Pokeytang hardware (That includes getting admin accounts for all the people that have admin accounts on your servers atm).

Pokeytang.com server info:
Connection: T3 backbone
Server Location: Boston
Server info: Dual P3 1gighz CPUs
RAM: 2gigz

If you are interested make a post on their Forum with what you would like.

*NOTE: the servers would be free and you would get the same access as you currently have.

That is a great offer and I thank you. Right now I am going to try and work this out and keep the server we have, because changing IP's, etc is a pain.

I got banned by a rather rude and childish admin, but I do hate to see a server people enjoy go down, however I have no money to contribute to this effort, but I wish you all the best luck.

Maybe if it stays up, that ban will finally go away.

The first and last time i went there, no one would leave the ready room, even the admins. It was like 3v4 with 8 people spectating.

Then the marines built outside the map on nancy, and the admins didnt do anything about it.

Best server? Hardly.

Although I haven't been playing on CoFR for long, I do thoroughly enjoy the server. It will be a sad day to see it disappear and I guess I'll have to find another server to crash. Thanks for the great games CoFR. Good luck.

I'm glad CoFR is staying up. I just wish they would stop playing maps like ninja_fall after they've gotten bored with the regular maps. More customs like ns_lost would be great and the advertisement and dedication shown here shouldn't keep people from downloading the larger maps. Probably not the best place to say this, but I feel compelled. It's worthy to note that I still enjoy playing the maps like ninja_fall but only because of the excellent regulars. *sniff* I love you guys!

... don't look at me like that.

This news is especially sad for me to read since I haven't been able to play at CoFR since May when school let out for the summer (I have access to a T3 at school but only dial-up at home). I was looking foward to playing at CoFR in the fall and it's going to be sad not to be able to. I don't think I was considered a regular, but it's the only place I played and I played almost every night of the week for at least an hour or so. There were always lots of friendly people to play with, and admins to keep the game fair and enjoyable. I really hope the sever gets saved. Thanks to all the people who made the server a great place to play.

Ok I just finished reading all the posts... and it's good to see CoFR will stay up. So disregard the sad part of my above message... Hope to play again soon.... :-)

Sorry for all the drama. This was ment to be a notification only, as when I posted this it was 'final' and 'decided' that the server would go down. I don't think anyone involved expected this kind of support!

The server is indeed staying up and the players are to thank for it. Goes to show that there is indeed a bigger demand for more heavily admined and mature servers then one might think on the internet. Special thanks to all of those who have agreed to pay a monthly installment to keep the server up, without getting any other benefit then the server actually staying up. Also a big thanks to Flayra for the support.

I have to admit that I was looking forward to not having to worry about the server, since I'm not at the moment able to play it, but this whole thread has brought a fuzzy warm feeling on.

Cya on the server!

(Well, you won't see me but I'll see you...)

Expect a paycheck coming your way later tonight or tomorrow. The Constellation payments have been rolling in since I posted this COFR offer!

Thanks for the generous donation, Flayra. We have enough sponsors to keep the server running now and thanks to the donation a bit of a margin as well. Some people are having trouble with paypal, which is the only way we're taking donations, but I am confident we'll get the 15 permanent sponsors we need.

Drama over, nothing to see here, move along...

I dont like to see ANY server owner loose there server BUT here is my beef

With the NS team showing favor tward an individual server .....It just dont look good for them.
Me along with a LOT of other server owner. Players out there are rather chafed at this "Donations given to " thing. BUt thats me Im a loosa so hey!

Let me get this straight... Flayra donates some of the money he lives on, but that's not fair. Did I get you right here?

Who gives a damn what the man does with his own money......

I spend 80% of my paycheck on anime DVDs.

So by your wonderful logic I shouldn't be doing it as I would upset the other collectors who don't get a paycheck!

Thanks for all the people who specifically donated this month and for that matter, thanks to those who donate EVERY month to the constellation fund to keep a good game going. It's been an overwhelming and quite unexpected reaction to the server closing down and I had just about packed my bags and walked out the door to find another server to admin. It has managed to galvanise a group of the regular players into making monthly contributions to the server and we are optimistic about making it to NS 1.1 !!! Something we have all been eagerly looking forward to. Cheers to all those who have supported us.

/me sips his tea in honor of the contributors

As always, I like to include my disclaimer. CoFR is a good server if you like playing by the rules, if not, you won't like it very much.

(I've had a few disgruntled players arrive since this thread began. One in particular decided calling everyone n00bs and whining the whole time was a good idea. Sadly we had to say goodbye to him as he didnt seem to like our no swearing policy either.)

If you like playing in a mature and friendly environment, we will try our best to make it so.

I'd love to see this thread closed. As a professional hermit, I find all the attention discomforting.

CoFR is hands down one of (if not THE) best server in the NS community I think. Great, friendly players, active admins, no weird mods. The best part is an atmosphere dedicated to fun, not wins, so that many times commanders will skip HMG/JP rushes in intrest of a better game. I played 4 games on there tonight and it went marine alien marine alien. Nice and even.

Hrm.

After this posts career on the NS forum there has been an influx of new players on the server. Please do yourself and us a favor and don't join without reading the rules.

Saying "WTH!" or "BS" when you get killed is considered *whining* and unsportsmanlike. We ban people for that. If you cannot refrain from complaining about everyone and everything when you get killed, please find another server.

If you don't *like* our rules, and you are not alone, many don't like our no-swearing and no-whining policy, then just don't play there.

If you DO chose to play, read the rules. We enforce them.

If you DO feel a need to complain about it, post on OUR forum at www.cofrfps.com, not that we're going to change anything, this is how we like to run our server.

Anyway, we're banning a whole bunch of people now so I just thought I'd let you know.

I got banned from CONFR, I dont know how, or why. I was on ASE the other night, and decided to give it a play...ASE said it was unresponsive so I let it keep refreshing till it connected. Once it did, said I was banned. Tried a different CD key and realised I was perm banned via ip. Mind telling me what I did? Im so confuzzled!!
