But I have already kick-banned the guy that goes gorge, rushes, goes back gorge cuz "he got more life and can shoot", explain to him he wastes ressources, gets kicked, comes back, says he was joking around and he will play serious, goes back gorge.
As in every game, the attitude > experience/skill.
Ranging from the CS cheater that has fun TKing everyone and spamming boasts to the NS player that does it on purpose to be an idiot, I think you can't be accepted if you don't accept yourself the rules of the game.
That, and please know a <i>minimum</i> of the game. The guy that hops in the game and ask "wth are those aliens and how the **** do I get a sniper rifle?" does not know a minimum of the game.
edit (add): and yes, I really like CS a lot, but I hate a large part of its community for being spoiled children that don't want to learn aiming and gets the latest aimbot. That, and the fact the game isn't a frag chase, but a teamwork game. Apparently pubs have forgotten that. I stopped CS when my clan died, as it is impossible to play the way it was meant to be played on a pub.
I disagree that everyoe who has something negative to say about NS should keep quiet. You can't assume they're -all- idiots just for not having the exact same views as you. You might be wrong. They might have a point. You have to go on an individual basis only. I would like people who have gripes about NS to post so, if they have a point, maybe NS can continue to get even better. NS has a lot of potential right now because it has a real team and a real community; if we want all critics to be ignored and not listened to, we're just being ignorant fanboys who want to turn NS into trash in the long run by ignoring potentially legitimate gripes.

I shall reach as far as the feared Pokamons, that I'm sure a lot of you would call a crap game. I myself don't play Pokamon, but some do. Those some people aren't morons for playing a crap game are they? Should they get shot for liking Pokamons? Or should you leave them alone because they love a game that you hate fervently?
Same goes with NS or CS. Some people play NS or CS because they love the game. Some people hate them and they leave the game alone. They don't go out and yell the game sux omg omg sux0rz!
They <i>might</i> have a point and you <i>might</i> be wrong, but does that mean the game sucks? Also, Tonzak, you're right, there are people who have gripes and ask for the game to be better. These are people who <b>like</b> the game and contribute to it by posting in the suggestions/ideas forum. They aren't people who just **** about the game being horrible for the lack of a sniper rifle and the lack of individualism.
i still think this thread comes across as "if you don't like it, don't play it." if you don't like it, you can explain how it could be better instead, and maybe have a discussion. if you fundamentally disagree with decisions about what would make a better game, then fine. but i haven't seen this happen very often, and we shouldn't assume that just because someone dislikes this game as is they don't have anything to add. only listening to people who agree with you isn't a good way to develop a game.
as a newbie who hasnt played either game yet i look forward to reading the for and against as it sometimes helps to learn more about opinions and the game so you are less likely to make a total fool of yourself and so spoil it for others like the advice to ask for help and listen and learn this is the first time i have seen such user friendly advice it is so good it should be posted on all forums as a must read it might help other newbies

No mod, absolutely no mod or game (even CS) would survive without newcommers. I don't see why people should be so harsh on them (I know I'm a newb to this forum but I've been playing NS the day it was released). If the newcommers get treated badly by the community they won't want to play which means as people stop playing there will be no new people to take their place (ie the community declines).
Hi, I'm new to NS also. Im a veteran CS player, and when I came onto this game, I was amazed by how much different the community and the gameplay was. I have always been pushing for teamwork in CS, and when I came here I expected everyone to be soloing and going after kills only, but it was quite the opposite. Anywho, I got the game three days ago, and I am usually human, but both races are fine to me. For the human tho, I am still unfamilar on how to use the Command Center. I can build and drop items, but I have yet to learn how to give out orders. One thing I notice in this game is that if the commander is bad, then your team generally looses. All in all, I really like this game. Its one of my favorite mods for HL besides CS. I worked a lot to creat a community so that people can enjoy themselves, but there are always those who try to ruin it. Well, this is enough, later.
Teamwork/help, I'm sorry I must be playing a different game than the rest of you. Only one game in five so far has been enjoyable. Not very good odds so far. I WILL continue to play on the oft chance I run into those of you who have posted they do/will/like to help newbies. Also, a little negative posting done sensibly can bring up issues that will get overlooked if everyone is busy praising all the time. Remember there are two sides to a discussion if you want to benefit from other peoples experience, and correct any faults that may occur. Perfection is not always achieved first time round. Take the negative comments and look at them to see if you can fix the problem/fault even if you disagree with what is said, wait think it out, there might be a middle ground that benefits everyone, By dismissing outright you may lose some invaluable advice. Thank you for reading/listening.
There are many people here who are more than willing to listen and give fair and thought out responses. Don't judge the community by a few (ok maybe more than a few) bad eggs.

If anything, this mod should go retail, not CS. If NS ever did go retail, the NS team would have so much dough that they couyld spare some dollars to wipe their butts with. Just my 2 cents.

So if you see a " vetran" paying you out just becaus you cant place a mine proply, or you picked up someone elses jp or you are evolved ito a gorge because you thought "cool a cheap evolv". just tell him that your ns mind is open and you are sorry but also ask him to show you how.
When i was a ns child not that long ago (i would say im in ns adolesence) the only thing left was the commchair and i got given some mines and i just placed them randomly, oblivious to our teams near destruction and i kept on haering "go up citadel go up" every now and then i hard "your such a damn n00b" and becaus of being an ns baby we lost but if i was in a unfreindly server *cough cough cs cs cough cough* i would have seen the console full of typing indicating that i was kicked.

Anyway I just want to say I fancy myself a cyberathlete and I really want to go to the CPL (it's in Dallas though and I'm in B.C. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> ) I absolutley love CS, not really one for DoD and I'm hoping to get lots of time to play NS it looks great! I have to agree with the issue about the bad players online these days, it's really atrocious, I remember when there was still such a thing as netiquette *sigh*. To curb the dishonest and disrespectful players me and the guys usually hold a LAN party after school on tuesdays and thursdays where we play CS for a while, on occasion though, some people will bring in different games like starcraft or Diablo. I'm hoping I can introduce NS to the parties and start playing it regularly, it looks like great team fun! To the tell the truth I hate playing online so you'll probably never see me online (alias Technomancer) We always play on LANs because we hate cheaters and you get better latency as well as the ability to choose your teammates and work out a strategy before the game. I'm not sure which part I love more, playing or setting up the strategy. Anyway that's just my spin on the things in this topic, figured I'd sign up and congratulate the creators on what appears to be an excellent game!
I remember the first time I played this game.... a very long time ago! I had no idea WTH was going on, I was so newbed I jumped into the CC and started to place 5 or 6 armories in the main base, I was yelled @ rather quickly as you can imagine! I had mixed feeling about the game from then on, I wasn't sure if I like this game, until I got some skills and understanding as to what the roles of the players were! THIS GAME R()><()Rs I think this is one of the most unique games I have ever played, I really hope that they make another NS for HL2 when it comes out!
As for CS... I really can't understand whats so great about that game, to me NOTHING! I have played about 8 different FSP MODS for Q3 and HL the ones I find the most fun are the ones that are more realistic, NS:CO for Q3 comes to mind. CS is not realistic, the gameplay is rather boring and the amount of lamers ruins it beyond anyhting I have ever seen!

Umm, you hate CS players? I'm a CS player, how can you hate me already, I mean, you don't even know me yet! Not all CS players are horrible, mean and cruel cheaters that intentionally ruin the gameplay for everyone else, some of us are actually nice and play it for fun! Me and the guys I play with are hardcore CS players and the only people we really hate are the people that make internet play no fun and the people that tear us down because we play CS. Personally I don't think it's right to rip someone apart just because they like a certain game that conflicts with your tastes.
I think the reason that this CS vs Everyone debate is so strong is that people either love it or they hate it, no one really has any tolerance anymore for other peoples opinions. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if someone flamed me for writing this, infact I'll be surprised if no one does.
I find that the only real way to play CS these days (or any team based game for that matter) is to play on a closed LAN, where no one can cheat without the threat of having the crap kicked out of them in real life.
The CS hackers are just little kids with no real skills at all, they just get some kind of cheap thrill out of irritating serious players. Another thing about hackers, have you ever killed one repeatedly, had them accuse you of cheating and then kick you? I was playing yesterday the TS mod on my sserver, i was so good i was accused of cheatin (i had about 70 frags, the best guy below me had 30), thats why i run CD on my server now.
I used to love to play CS but I haven't in a while. The main reason is I'm too lazy to download it. Bandwidth ain't a problem either, Cable Internet pwns. Once I started NS I had no desire to go back to CS. When I want to do some good sniping I just go play TFC. I respect all players and their opinions except the ones who complain and hack. Them, I have no respect for.

The original post was made in response to an influx of 'flames' about NS claiming that it 'sucks'. Of course critisism is welcome. Well-founded and intelligent critisism is great, especially if it is original.
Tons of posts just whining about NS or complaining that it isn't CS in Space isn't very interesting, entertaining or productive. This post was in response to those.

I'm a bit of a CS / NS er atm. I've got one mate pullin' me into NS, the other back to CS. I've been playing CS fort about a year now, and NS for about 2-3 months.
As with all games, the quality of the gaming experience depends totallyon on the gamers that play it. In my opinion CS is among the best multiplayer games for LAN parties, providing days of fun (my LAN parties last a while...) NS provides a similar amount of enjoyment, although the two are very difficult to compare, as they are both seperate genres, it's kind of like comparing Doom (the best game in the world IMHO <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ) to Diablo.
Anyway the core of my messages has always been that every game has it's own potential to be awesome, all it takes is players to make or break a game.
Unfortunatley there is no really good way of detecting and banning hackers on the internet, so most online games lose there awesomeness potential when fair play is impossible to assertain. 1. DON'T play the game! This makes total sense, since you don't like it. You may even want to stay away from anything NS, like this forum or pictures featuring NS material.
2. Start an anti-NS club! This would be a great way for you to interact with others who feel like you and vent your frustrations.

When i was a ns child not that long ago (i would say im in ns adolesence) the only thing left was the commchair and i got given some mines and i just placed them randomly, oblivious to our teams near destruction and i kept on haering "go up citadel go up" every now and then i hard "your such a damn n00b" and becaus of being an ns baby we lost but if i was in a unfreindly server *cough cough cs cs cough cough*
i would have seen the console full of typing indicating that i was kicked.
But the thing that realy pisses me of was today at school i asked some one "have you played ns and if u have do u like it" and he said na ns sucks but cs is the best
an i go well i like it over cs and i also think its da bomb and he goes yeah but i play cs all the time i think would know whitches beta ns sucks and its fact

Anyway I just want to say I fancy myself a cyberathlete and I really want to go to the CPL (it's in Dallas though and I'm in B.C. <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif'><!--endemo--> ) I absolutley love CS, not really one for DoD and I'm hoping to get lots of time to play NS it looks great! I have to agree with the issue about the bad players online these days, it's really atrocious, I remember when there was still such a thing as netiquette *sigh*. To curb the dishonest and disrespectful players me and the guys usually hold a LAN party after school on tuesdays and thursdays where we play CS for a while, on occasion though, some people will bring in different games like starcraft or Diablo. I'm hoping I can introduce NS to the parties and start playing it regularly, it looks like great team fun! To the tell the truth I hate playing online so you'll probably never see me online (alias Technomancer) We always play on LANs because we hate cheaters and you get better latency as well as the ability to choose your teammates and work out a strategy before the game. I'm not sure which part I love more, playing or setting up the strategy. Anyway that's just my spin on the things in this topic, figured I'd sign up and congratulate the creators on what appears to be an excellent game!

I had no idea WTH was going on, I was so newbed I jumped into the CC and started to place 5 or 6 armories in the main base, I was yelled @ rather quickly as you can imagine!
I had mixed feeling about the game from then on, I wasn't sure if I like this game, until I got some skills and understanding as to what the roles of the players were!

I think this is one of the most unique games I have ever played, I really hope that they make another NS for HL2 when it comes out!
As for CS... I really can't understand whats so great about that game, to me NOTHING!
I have played about 8 different FSP MODS for Q3 and HL the ones I find the most fun are the ones that are more realistic, NS:CO for Q3 comes to mind.
CS is not realistic, the gameplay is rather boring and the amount of lamers ruins it beyond anyhting I have ever seen!
In Short: I HATE CS, I HATE CS PLAYERS, I HATE LAME **** CHEATERS WHO RUIN CS.
NS is to CS what PS2 is to ATARI 2600

I think the reason that this CS vs Everyone debate is so strong is that people either love it or they hate it, no one really has any tolerance anymore for other peoples opinions. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if someone flamed me for writing this, infact I'll be surprised if no one does.
I find that the only real way to play CS these days (or any team based game for that matter) is to play on a closed LAN, where no one can cheat without the threat of having the crap kicked out of them in real life.
The CS hackers are just little kids with no real skills at all, they just get some kind of cheap thrill out of irritating serious players. Another thing about hackers, have you ever killed one repeatedly, had them accuse you of cheating and then kick you? I have, it was on the Snowcrest server, my friend and I kept killing 'Snowcrest Yoda', he got pretty mad <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->
Anyway, all I'm trying to say is we should try and keep an open mind to other peoples views, unless they are obviously hackers, in which case we should try and alienate them as much as is possible, no one has the right to ruin someone elses game. Ever.

I love you, sparticus. For real, I'm glad someone else agrees. And with all things, we don't hate you for CS. we hate the 12 year old mentality that CS has earned over the years. Ive played CS since beta 1...but I quit after meeting NS a year ago. I was happy to leave a mod overrun with 12 year old rich kids who think I suck because my yacht isnt as big as his. Anyway the core of my messages has always been that every game has it's own potential to be awesome, all it takes is players to make or break a game.
Unfortunatley there is no really good way of detecting and banning hackers on the internet, so most online games lose there awesomeness potential when fair play is impossible to assertain.
