Question About The Marine Jumping In 1.1i

JojoshuaJojoshua NS Guide Professor Join Date: 2002-11-02 Member: 5233Members
O Marine bunny-hopping addressed: When marines land after a jump, they are slowed down a bit (like CS), so speed can't be increased by jumping repeatedly. You can still hop to your heart's content as alien.

.....The *like CS* part scares me. Is this going to be exactly like CS where jumping isnt even going to be fun anymore or just enough so that no one can BHop?

It sounds rather harsh I must admit.

Good one I think. It was a bad idea in CS because it was a much faster game and needed less teamplay.
But in NS it will work very well and once again increase teamplay.

I'm sure the 'elite bunnyh0pp3rs' will start flaming aannnyy minute now...

NS would not be the game is is if jumping was changed so drasticly such as CS.

I look forward to it. The amount of jumping right now is silly, and takes away from the atmosphere. Yes ys, gameplay>realism but this 'gameplay' I could do without.

Is there ever a possibility that you guys can use imagination?
  • Ph0enixPh0enix Join Date: 2002-10-08 Member: 1462Members, Constellation
Jeese, if it effects gameplay too much, it'll get changed won't it, and Flay will find a different way to nerf BH'ing.

    Don't worry about it.

Nobody kept for Flayra himself will be able to answer that until 7PM EST. Wait and see.

I, for one, am glad they're doing this. I don't mind the CS-style jumping at all; only jump when you need to.

I'm glad - the amount of marine hopping in the game is silly now, and it's making the game less fun. Yes it takes skill to do effectively, but skilled players already have an advantage in that they're accurate with their aim. Being able to dodge melee attacks so easily makes playing skulk much more frustrating, especially when you factor armor into the equation. If the game was meant to emphasize teamplay and be less dependent on individual skill (as we were told) then this ability has to be nerfed a little. Some marines literally spend more time in the air than they do touching the ground.

Only thing with jumping that i think is really silly is the HAs jumping. Ok they have servo-legs but it just looks plainly retarded when they jump..

i like the idea of have "access of everything"....feels kinds reduced when bunny-hopping is eliminated in NS. such wonderful thing to do in the NS ready room.
  • hutchhutch Join Date: 2003-05-15 Member: 16349Members
thats so lame. Good players are being punished for having took the time to learn how to dodge and to aim while jumping.

1.0x definately had problems with bhoping, the crouching bug and the fact that you could jump to go faster...
But why didnt the dev team fix that bug and make jumping not increase your speed?

I think that should be done, and then since bhoping, "ruins the atmosphere", a stamina bar should be put in as a compromise.
This would stop excessive jumping, but at the same time, allow jumping in combat to continue being a useful technique.

I like bhopping. After moving from TFC to NS I didn't bother to take my bhop timing script with me, but I soon learned to bhop without it. It's just something you automatically start doing when moving to a waypoint, not even thinking "hey, I'm bhopping".

Well, if bhop must go it must go. Removing aircontrol would make leaping and lots of other stuff a lot less fun that they are now. Making you slow down after jumping sounds to me as the lesser evil of the two.

The result of this is that marines wont jump anymore cuz if u jump once then u are kinda stuck on the ground and are a very easy target for a skulk... And if they dont jump anymore they'll get killed as soon as there's one skulk bhopper. Tbh I dont hope (dont think either) this will stay in the definitive 1.1. I do believe there's some other way to avoid marines to be able to bh.

I think you guys are taking this the wrong way. I think it's a minor slow down in order to stop bunny hoppers. Flayra has no intention of removing the ability for marines to jump dodge aliens (at least that know of).

But the game was supposed to reward teamplay, not individual skill levels. It's hard enough fighting high pings and low framerates without having your targets jump out of range (and that is a big jump) every time you manage to get near them.

Just got out of a round of 1.1i, posting while I figure out how to fix a problem with my computer's video card.

If you don't try to bunnyhop and/or don't know how, you won't even feel the change. At all. It's not noticeable one bit, like it is in CS. You just can't bunnyhop.

    K here is the deal.

You can jump once and continue running fine, jump again and you slow down for a second. So you can jump run jump again and you'll be fine. Jump then jump and you slow down.

After a few hours of playing I didn't notice it, except I couldn't bhop anymore ...

Agreed, sounds good. Those who use jump to selectively dodge skulks will still be fine, those who just spam-jump to avoid skulks are gonna have a problem

    And obviously BH'ing is screwed

    not my bhops!

the only thing that annoyed me was the crouched b-hops. Nerf those. Leave my normal jumping alone.

    "elite" = "elite" - 1

WELL THANK GOD FOR THAT, i though with the start of this thread that if i sidestep jumped a skulks atack i would be rooted to the floor, one reason i dont like CS (at all) is because of its stupid jump (if cs= realism... what planet am i on?), there is a simple serverside variable that stops speeding up with jumps, its called sv_airaccelerate why not just lock this to a lower level?

It's completely silly that skulks could be doged in the first place, the aliens are supposed to rule in moving, not marines.

Thank God BHoping is getting removed, it kills gameplay on so many levels:

    Supension of Belief,
    Hit box issues,
    Balencing Issues,

    to name a few...

bhopping backwards is still faster then running backwards. You are still able to dodge pretty well with it. All that is really out is bhopping between waypoints, which was basically out already in initial 1.1 patch.

Also you can't.....crawl. Like when you duck and try to crawl forwards you can't. You have to run into a duck to crawl, and then if you let go of forwards to stop crawling you can't resume.

You can still crawl backwards but its ridicuously slow.

Basically marines now have no way of being stealthy at all. That is the biggest change this patch imo.

so the life expectancy of a FULLY trained marine over an animal acting on instict is that low huh..... you have to remeber these guys have been trained in all forms of combat, and yes I was in the army, and yes you do get trained to avoid (very fast i might add) fists and knifes, i saw a guy (he was chinese) dodge throwing knifes at one of our parties, was sweet
