The map was Bast. The aliens were fighting the good fight against the marines. I was a gorge building up engine hive. I placed defs, moves, ocs, all over as to keep the marines out (fueled by the new gorge sucking system!). Just as I was working on getting the hive up, the marines took out our other hives. Realizing I was the last kharaa left and sole protecter of the soon to be built hive, I got ready for the marine wave. They came soon thereafter with HMGs. I fought as hard as I could with my healing spray, running this way and that, letting the ocs soften them up and the like. When the hive went down, I rebuilt it. Finally I ran out of rps and made my last stand against the next wave. I didn't last too long afterwards, but in the end I lasted 5 min. and took down 6 or so marines, as a gorge.

Ok here goes.
The place: the new and ns_mineshaft by ekaj.
The team: Marines
The role: Commander

Notes: This was my second 1.1 round, my first was played as aliens on ns_bast. Also I cant realy give you too much of a layout or idea on the map, however i believe it is relatively similar to its predecessor, ns_shaft(technicaly the same map).

And here goes... The map loaded onto a nice *pretty* 1 texure box of a readyroom... ns_mineshaft, flay gave us a little more lowdown on the changes of 1.1 in game then sent us to join teams, thus everyone piled into the random team area. *pop*! I apeared as a marine in the marine's spawn room, and imidiatly asked over voice: "Anyone else want to comm or can I?" No response... So I decided, oh well I think I'll give it a shot.

Once into the comm chair I was greeted with a only semi-familiar control panel, which actualy opperated relatively well for being such fresh coding. Anyway onto the goods: After navigating through the menus I threw down a Pair of IPs, an armory and a TF off the bat, and told everyone to build. First up was the Ips, then the TF (which soon became electrified), and the armory.

Thus with basecamp set up (yes a elec TF with no turrets). I selected 7 of marines( out of 9), and sent them off south of base, to an area call the 'cafateria', and left the other 2 marines(those nubs Greedo and Ekaj) at base. Upon the arival of the 7 marines to the cafateria I Hotkeyed them to squad 1, and set them to building a node, after the completetion we also electrified that, then split into 2 groups, 3 to grab one pair of nearby nodes, and the other 4 to grab the nearby hive and its 2 nodes(note: squad 1 is now the group of 4 and squad 2 is the group of 3).

Squad 2 reached their destination first, and area called the Crew quarters, with a bunch of bunks where my marines decided to have a slumber party and a res node (that finaly got built after FoR|Bitchslap and Co finished monkeying around). It was around that time that Squad 1 met the first contact, a pair of skulks(that haden't changed) and a gorge (which had been re-vamped). Surprisingly after much ammo wasting and gunshots the skulks and gorge were downed, and the squad now missing a member reached their hive, which was quickly cleared of 1 last skulk, within seconds more we had the node in the hive room and right outside up and electrifying.

It was about this time that i realized we had around 100 res and no upgrades etc, thus I upgraded the armory, and dropped a arms lab and obs(both reduced in cost at that build). Also it was around this time that greedo had the ponce scared off him as an onos stumbled into base and ate him. They had 2 hives already #@$!@$%@#~!! said some people as they saw the devour kill. However upon the onos's return it walked into the electric TF and almost instantly died... by getting run over by a train???? or so said the killboard, actualy he got electrified as the TF at that time did uber amounts of damage.

Back on the assault, squad 1 moved up some and held at a main crossection on the map, waiting for their dead man and squad 2 to arrive, which did not take long as the last of squad 2's nodes was built quickly with no crazy lemur-bunk-jumping action. Once the squads were back togather i dubbed them squad 1 togather, and began research on phase tech and healthpack tech, as they moved nearby another hive.

At around the same time as this the armory finished its upgrade, and so did armor and weapons 1, along with phase and healthpack tech soon after. Thus we placed a phase, an electric tf, 4 turrets, and a seige outside their hive (not in seige range, i just felt like putting a seige to cover from OC advancement).

And finaly began our first major engagement, as 4 hmg, 3 shotty, and 1 GL marine advanced on their hive. Also here began our first bit of trouble, as a pair of marines(1 hmg 1 shotty) waltzed around a corner, suddenly fully built ocs materialized out of thin air and mowed them down almost instantly. The reaction of the marine team was one of awe and shock, and grenades. Once the wall was taken apart the remaining marines moved on, right into an ambush of fully silenced, fully cloaked skulks, that easily came up from behind (however still in range of an S chamber so they could move while cloaked) and chomped down 3 of our marines (the 3 remaining HMG-ers). Finaly a pair of shotty marines, 1 respawned LMG man, and a GL marine arrived in their hiveroom...

And just wow, with an increased shotty rate that fired almost as fast as the Auto-shotty from CS and instantly reloaded from a bug, they made very quick work of a pair of fades, an onos... however the most unlikely opponent was their arch enemy.. the lerk and gorge... The lerk could spore wiht only 1 hive(they had 2 anyway) and the gorge with an increased damage spit! The spores tore appart our shotty marines, and the spit took down the lmg and GL marine... however, the Last grenade exploaded under the hive and also tore it off the walls, 2 hives marines, 1 aliens.

However it was faaar from over, as both sides almost at the same time ran out of res, as in that version res was limited (note this game had gone on ~40 minutes already). So the final 20 minutes ended up being LMGs on skulks, with the marines having 0 res income from all nodes being out of res, and the aliens the same with the gorge res "sucking" not included yet. Eventualy we did take apart their hive, however it took a long, long time. GG.

Ok i know that was horribly awful to read but as i said i'm a horrible writer, sorry there, if you need clarification or want to ask me questions drop by #TeamNS4Life on gamesnet IRC and ask me ^_^.

It was a dark night on station Eclipse. My buddies and I had had just arrived. Our squad had recently just combined with another one due to losses in a previous skirmish. Our new team, nicknamed SexieR, was set to rid this station of the alien infestation. We initated drop-off and quickly built up base with all 6 of us staying around, lounging. Little did we know when all of a sudden five skulks rushed through the doors and began slaughtering us. I brought my gun to bear and soon they were all dead but we had casualties. After the new troops had arrived I was ordered to move to Triad. I ran over knowing I could handle most things that camemy way. Slowly building up a resource nozzle, I suddenly felt a presence above me but when I looked, nothing there. It was getting rather eerie so i tried to hurry up the building. Out of the blue I had a sharp sensation in my back! "WTH!" I told myself, knowing that skulks couldnt possibly be silent completely. Mind you I was wrong...*Transmission CUT OFF*

It's one of the new maps that I forget the name for. First time I see it. Commander has sent me and one squadmate in what seems like a completely random direction with a waypoint. We meet one skulk on the way who takes out my buddy promptly after jumping out of a vent. Thing is, it was so quick that by the time I turned around, the skulk was already heading towards base...it had no idea there were two of us. Figuring base was safe with the rest of the team and my presence hadn't been discovered, I took the opportunity to walk quietly to the waypoint. Turns out to be a hive.

As I'm going I'm hearing plenty of chatter over voice comm. I'm pretty lonely, and the messages I'm hearing aren't that good; since the map is pretty new to most of us and skulks have sheer speed advantage for exploring, they found us before we could find them and have been making raids on our base. I remind the commander of where I am, and he drops a CC and IP to build near my crouched-in-a-corner-like-a-coward position.

I build them both in time before the original base gets wiped out, so the team has relocated. But this is a new map; somehow in the process of building I managed to get my unlucky self stuck in some level geometry on the floor, and I've suddenly become a human turret. We're low on resources, we get the feeling Onos herds will find us soon, but we're alive. My personal problem is that I'm too stubborn to use /kill ("Never say die!"). In through the entrance to the hive comes an Onos -- I imagine the player was lauging at my feeble attempts to save myself with the LMG. Seeing my crouched and stationary position, I'm a free lunch on a silver platter for devour (you'll notice stomp is now at two hives and devour at three).

That was my first experience being eaten alive in-game. I do so very much hope that none of us PT's give away what a surprize it is. Seeing an onos come straight for you and getting that sick feeling in your gut that "he's not planning on just charging through me" just brings out a new emotion in NS.

The funny thing is, EVERY marine in our new location is pouring LMG fire into this thing like you wouldn't beleive. It dies before it can run back out of the room to enjoy its meal in peace...and I'm safe! A little gooey, but...safe.

Then the hordes came.

We lost quickly of course, but I still had fun, if for no other reason than because I felt like my team cared enough to save me *sniff* thanks guys

In general, I think one of the things the PT teams loved the most was watching skulks running then disappearing due to the sensory chambers.

I remember one game, the marines were at the alien hive, it was all or nothing. And the map had a ladder that was the entry way, it was a rather small area to get in, anyways, skulks were suiciding down there, just going all out, do or die.

I remember that Flayra said that it was cool/crazy ( don't remember the choice of word) in how skulks would be falling down from the top of the ladder and uncloaking on the way down because of the sens. chambers. Even dead skulks will still uncloaking on the way down.

I have to say that one time was pretty cool.

Lerk story wooo.

I was a lerk near the double node on caged. The marines had occupied the double node earlier and in my spore cloud suppression i found a nifty overhang in the hallway. One of our skulks ran in and then out with 2 marines following suit. I was unable to be scene from my perch on the roof and bombarded the hallway with spores as the skulk was leaving. The cloud proceded to finish 1 marine off while i swooped down to finish off the other with a barrage of spikes. I then quickly escaped via high speed flight back to my hive for some post battle healing. Who says the lerks cant kill well with what they have

When playtesting, I typically go to bed at 4am. Its more than worth it though.

I would give you some stories, but I cannot playtest from University, so the best I can do is sticky the post for all these amazing stories.

Aye I remember that battle.

It was NS_fenris. The aliens were down to their last hive. Due to us not knowing the map very well, we approached their last hive from the most impossible route of all. Down a narrow hallway up a long, steep ladder into a small low ceiling ante chamber to the hive it self.

Now their gorge had build a sensory chamber up there. So when ever one of us marines got near the ladder, skulks flew down the ladder cloaked and tore us up.

We finally learned to shoot up into the hole even if nothing was visible. Suddenly you could see a couple of decloaked corpses drop down at us. In general, the frenetic defense of skulks hurling themselves out of thin air at you was quite exhilerating. It took us a good long while to break that defense - in another game it could have been the game turner that would have allowed a ninja gorge to set up the 2nd hive while the rest were stalling the marine advance.
