I always liked the name Colin, and it sounds pretty good with your last name ("Colin Roberts," not bad). Probably not unique enough for your tastes, though.
If you want to cause him lots of painful times during school, you can name him Hogarth, like that kid in the Iron Giant =). And if you REALLY want to have some fun with the local church, name him Lucifer. Hehehe.
I've always been partial to Tommy. Tommy Roberts has a nice kind of ring to it. Jake is good too.
That book you were talking about in the first post. Is there any chance it was the War of Souls set, by (I believe) Margaret Hicks and Tracy something-or-other?

We already had a name if it was going to be a girl, but no such luck. So, I'm counting on the creative resources in this community to help! Here are the criteria we have:
1. NO 'conventional' names. We like unique names, and we want to avoid him having the same name as anyone we know. Semi-conventional names are okay, as long as they are not in popular use at all. As an example of what we mean by this, we were going to name a girl Mina. No one we know has that name, but it was a name in use a long time ago (it was actually usually short for "Willamina"). Plus, it was the name of a fictional character in a book that my wife and I really like.
2. It must go well with the last name Roberts. This pretty well excludes any name beginning with R, because that just sounds ridiculous.
3. Only serious names will be considered. Funny stuff is fine, but I really do need serious suggestions.
4. No 'biblical' names.
5. The name must sound good in all situations. What we mean by this is that you should imagine the name being used when we are speaking to him, calling him from a distance, talking to him sternly, talking about him with others, etc.
I promise to read all entries, but I can't guarantee that any will be used. We are extremely picky. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

Mathieu - which is easily shortened to Mat (ok, I'm partial to this one mainly because it's my name. It's pronounced the same as Matthew, but I don't know of anyone else with that spelling)
Ash - All I'm going to say is that I didn't get this from Night of the Living Dead (or the sequels) or pokemon
Tyan - Wouldn't have a clue where this one came from
Cil - I think I've ventured into random thought processes here, I won't bother with explinations now
Flik
Hrm, it seems sleep deprivation is kicking in, now might be a good time to stop spouting random combinations of letters
my names Ben, its a good name (of coarse) you can be guaranteed he will be well built and strong of character cos all the bens i know are like that(i know about 3 other bens which is ridiculous when we are all together)
