I lowered it to 16 players and I get about the same CPU usage as with 18.

    Here is another example

    map: ns_caged
    Players: 16
    Time on map: ~20 minutes

    %CPU 86
    %Mem 7.8

Forgot to add what I am running.

    Adminmod
    stripnet metamod plugin.

Do you think the type of ram could have a dramtic effect on CPU usage?
  • cracker_jackmaccracker_jackmac Join Date: 2002-11-04 Member: 6891Members, Constellation, Reinforced - Shadow
Not as much, It doesn't really use that much bandwidth (atleast to my knowledge)

from what i've heard, oh HLDS servers, DDR doesn't make that much of a difference....

I've found that the patch helps with your current level of players. Adding 2 or more working player slots will just bring you back to the same useage you had with 1.03.<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><span class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
ah, makes sense, my server is empty so haven't been able to test it for myself.

I appologize for my ignorance in my previous post.

    The CPU usage was down.

The reason I posted about the pings , even tho I could not see how the patch could affect them , is because it was imediately higher as soon as i updated. Doubled to tripled for all players as soon as I applied the patch. I found out tho , that it was just a coincidense. I applied the patch at the same exact time that the SQL server attack occured , there by jakin up my datacenters bandwidth.

So i appologize again for my previous posts uninformative and unfounded remarks.

I will now reapply the patch and see how it goes.

Has running NS on RH 7.2 with Adminmod caused any known FTP problems? Our server's FTP is getting hit extremely hard whenever we run HLDS, and I can't imagine what HL could be doing to mess with it.

What exactly do you mean, "FTP is getting hit extremely hard"? As in ppl trying to log into it? Have you looked at your ftp's log files at all? I know of nothing in hlds or adminmod that would use ftp at all. Some stats programs like pyscho-stats have ftp codeing in them. And adminmod has the ability to run stats programs at every map change. But otherwise.........

Just wanted to post here as we run a full-time public NS server (<a href='http://www.mayberrygames.com' target='_blank'>http://www.mayberrygames.com</a>) and have had no success in getting NSv1.04 to work. We are running a dedicated P4 on <a href='http://www.rackshack.net' target='_blank'>http://www.rackshack.net</a>. We have a second half-life DoD server at the same location. Our network bandwidth is excellent and no one has complained about high pings or the like. We are currently using AdminMod 2.50.50 and Metamod 1.13.3. When I install AM2.50.51 and Metamod 1.14.1, the server crashes repeatedly when users join (as previously reported by others). I will also include here a listing of our plugins we are using.
I ran two tests. One on our currently as-configured NS server with all of the plugins (running 2.50.50 and 1.13.3) when I upgraded to AM2.50.51 and MM1.14.1 and as a test (and to rule out a server mis-configuration with plugins, etc) I put a stock installation of RH7.2 on a P3-750 mHz and then installed AM2.50.51 with the metamod 1.14.1.
On the second test-server, I made absolutely NO changes to ANY of the config files. It is HL3110 and NSv1.04 installed right on top of one another.

Here are two files of my outputs. I ran an strace on my test server to capture what the heck is going on. The core files on my test server are always the same size. Can't say for sure if the cores are always the same on our main server as I didnt get a chance to test very long. Players wanted it back online ASAP. If you look through the files you should also see that I tried using MM1.13.3 as well as MM1.14.1 with the same results.

    Main server - <a href='http://207.44.168.73/files/ns_out_frommain.tar.bz2' target='_blank'>http://207.44.168.73/files/ns_out_frommain.tar.bz2</a>
    Test server - <a href='http://207.44.168.73/files/ns_stock_rh72_core_logs.tar.bz2' target='_blank'>http://207.44.168.73/files/ns_stock_rh72_c...re_logs.tar.bz2</a>

Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, I used bzip2 for the compression, it does a much better job compressing than gzip. If you need it, go here: <a href='http://www.digistar.com/bzip2/' target='_blank'>http://www.digistar.com/bzip2/</a>

Just wanted to pass on that I rebuilt our server from scratch today and I used the RH7.3 AM2.50.50 dlls previously posted to make NS v1.04 work. Still wouldn't work using the stock AM2.50.51 and MM1.14.1 together, however using the posted RH7.3 compiled dlls with MM1.14.1 does work. I'm also noticing a HUGE savings in CPU. Our server used to run at 85-95% all the time, now I'm seeing a 50% decrease. I'm stable at less than 50% CPU utilization. Nice job guys, now if someone can figure out WHY it's crashing with the stock dlls....

Would someone that has installed these new files please walk me through the installation, I must admit I am quite a Linux Newbie. When I tried to do it adminmod appeared to load but when i tried to use it nothing returned.

If someone could lend a hand to me:
    AIM: Woggie1243
    MSN: jhenderson9@kc.rr.com
    YAHOO: j_henderson_01
    ICQ: 179737387

If it comes to the point where you dont have any of those, e-mail me @ my MSN name to do it that way.

    Thanks in Advance.

If 2.50.52 crashes for you please <a href='http://www.ozforums.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=611350' target='_blank'>post here</a> so the Adminmod developers are aware of it and can fix it. If those that are recompling it so it works let Da Rope know whats different on the machines you compile on we can make it work out of the box.

I've received a number of emails asking for my special blend, so here it is back by popular demand:

    <a href='http://www.fatclan.org/ns/rh_adminmod.tar.gz' target='_blank'>AdminMod 2.50.52</a>: Compiled on RedHat 7.3.

Works with 8.0 also. Not sure about anything else, but it's worth a try!

    [EDIT]
I made a change to the code so that when admin_exec_client is enabled, it will no longer send warning to the user. Also when you run a command on a users machine, it will no longer tell the user they had a command run on them.

Figured it would be nice to let people know what I changed before they download.

I actually changed what it displayed mainly because of Bugblatter's rate script, too much console spam for me.

9 has more problems than 8, stay away from it.

    <a href='http://www.fatclan.org/ns/rh_adminmod.tar.gz' target='_blank'>AdminMod 2.50.52</a>: Compiled on RedHat 7.3.

Works with 8.0 also. Not sure about anything else, but it's worth a try!

Ok, I am completely BOOGLED here.

My NS server is running on Redhat 8

I have NS 1.04 on there and if I sit on the console and type 'meta list' it reports :

    Currently loaded plugins:
description stat pend file vers src load unlod
    [ 1] STATSME RUN - sm_cstrike_mm_i3 v2.7.1 ini Chlvl Chlvl
    [ 2] Adminmod RUN - admin_MM_i386.so v2.50.52 ini Start Start
    [ 3] ClanMod RUN - clanmod_mm_i386. v1.81.12 ini Pause Pause
    [ 4] PhaseEQ RUN - phase_eq_mm_i386 v1.04 ini ANY ANY
    [ 5] Unstuck Pro RUN - unstuck_mm.so v1.00 ini Pause Pause
    5 plugins, 5 running

So, my question to you is,

Why doesn't this appear to the user? Why are none of the commands working? Absolutely nothing admin wise works.

    have I made a boo boo ?

    well, that was retarded.

Opened up my liblist.gam and commented out the ns_i386.so line like so.

    //gamedll_linux "dlls/ns_i386.so"
    gamedll_linux "addons/metamod/dlls/metamod_i386.so"

    Now it works.

Am I the retard or is that just not written down in HUGE letters in some high profile document?

Ah .. so I want my cake and to eat it?

Well .. seems I MUST have this line in here or else:

    Adding master server 65.73.232.252:27010
    ./hlds_run: line 83: 18910 Segmentation fault $HL $*
Add "-debug" to the ./hlds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help with solving this problem

    GG
So, back to asking for help ..

Spurty, give the adminmod that DrGiggles compiled a try. Look about 6 posts up.

The original gamedll_linux must be commented out for metamod to function correctly. This is noted in the metamod installation instructions: <a href='http://metamod.org/metamod.html' target='_blank'>http://metamod.org/metamod.html</a>

Running both adminmod and clanmod is asking for pain. I also recommend that you get metamod running with one plugin first, then add your other plugins. Otherwise, it's hard to determine whether a problem is with plugins in general, or a specific plugin.

Well thank you all very very much.

Pint of grog to you all (Kudos to DrGiggles)

If you want to play at the pub, you have to adhere to the drinking laws. Its not 24/7 (visit <a href='http://www.spurty.co.uk' target='_blank'>SpurtysPub</a> or #spurtyspub on gamesnet servers for the opening times).
