    Hi All,

been playing NS for about 2 months, buddy of mine who plays CS turned me onto it. Thought I would finally post something.

I'm a Network Engineer by trade, and have been computer gaming since I played my first game of Sea Wolf. Anyone remember it? I purchased my own Atari 2600 at age 11, played Hack and ADV forever, and really loved Wizardry on my Apple IIE.

I put NS up there with CS and Diablo II, as recent games that I think are significant, and uniquely playable. I think many developers worry too much about making amazingly realistic graphics, and not enough about game creativity, uniqueness, and re-playablity.

I love the way NS forces people to play as a team (even the aliens), and still allows punks who are kill counters to run around and contribute (or not interfere too much). I don't even play CS these days, mainly because I enjoy the team/comraderie aspects of NS.

I've done a good deal of software testing in my career, and will see what I can do to post some helpful, quasi-formal suggestions on the appropriate forum.

Thanks for creating a great game, and I hope the player base continues to expand.

Name's Savage, or Tjeerd, and quite a decent player already, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I really can't remember when I started playing, things are rather fuzzy since I got out of my egg last week. Anyway, expect to see a little thing from me to the community, a keybinder. I've already released a first version at ww.keybinding.com, and I'll be adding NS support asap <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif'><!--endemo-->

    <!--emo&::skulk::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/skulk.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='skulk.gif'><!--endemo--> there everyone ,
the Mod of the Year gamespy poll (sadly !) drew my attention to Natural Selection after I voted for Thievery (Thief mod , best UT mod of course) and tried it as I just reinstalled Half-Life. The title sounded good , the manual interesting , but the gameplay was beyond any expectation.

While I openly despise any hitscan(firearms) only mod , its unique game strategies somehow transcended that , machineguns were finally compatible with more subtle tactics (though I still greatly prefer the alien side btw)

The dream mixture of games. StarCraft and Half-Life merged.
I played Brood War for ages , but it became too predictable , games being more and more similar. FPS mods were fun , wacky or thrilling , but quickly boring as innovation was eventually depleted.

This , justifies the unthinkable sacrifices to real life many of you had (I'm late on chemistry homework atm) and the insane addiction starting at the very first game played. So far , ThieveryUT held me playing it instead of any other game. But Natural Selection just sucked me into its marvelously rich universe.

Sign that you played NS for too long already , #n+1 :
You feel your greatest duty on this world is to honor a mod's greatness on its forum at all costs , instead of working for incoming exams.

Heard about it from some classmates at school (we're all gamers).

Technically, I've been playing NS for the past 5-6 months, but since I've never actually posted to the forums before I figure that this is a good place to start. I mostly play on large servers (16+) and am on around 7-11 pm weekdays, 3-Late weekends.

Hi folks, Magnus from Sweden here!

Tried NS the week it was first released, but somehow I didn't find it as exciting as I'd expected. When 1.04 came out I gave it another shot and BANG, I loved it. Been playing a few hours each day ever since, but I still have problems finding my way around the maps <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif'><!--endemo-->

Te he... not really new. More of a "back from exile." Seems I lost my e-mail where I could revalidate my old account... so I changed it to this. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Anyways, howdy folks. Some of you might remember me, if not, then hi... go and consider me new. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif'><!--endemo-->

EDIT: Oh yes... reason for my exile: Moved up north like I said I was going to, and I didn't have internet or a decent computer for about 3 months. But I do remember vaguely me having a T1 connection for 2 months before I moved to the new house.

Hi! I'm lick_its_babe. I've been playing CS for a little over 2 years with my hubby (lick_it_dot_com: hence my name). We've been regulars on a Seattle server "Seattle Vaginal Exuberance".

A co-player set up a NS "Elastical Gomez"server a few months ago and ever since we are both hooked. I'm not a noob to the game, yet still one to computers.. I can shoot, I can bit, I can build..

I've come here looking to learn other stradegies and more about what to look forward to in the game.. Also I use gamespy, yet would love to find other servers to try out. Lots of stuff to look at! Thanks

Hi. Grey_Area here. After much comments from associates of mine I decided to check out the game. Fan-tastic. The bakground is solid, well written and informative, the game itself is so close to what I have been looking for as makes no difference. I'm currently having some issues getting into servers but I think I have it sussed.

    Very pleased to be here.

I am Chuchumanquiq Lord of Xibalba, and when the Quake 3: True Combat team releases 1.0 beta I'm supposed to have my tag in a map for doing some exploit testing there (hit: the news archives)... I've written stuff for Quake & Quake3 and some shareware apps but I'm burnt out on modding, so that's all you get to know about me.

3 years experience Java/C++ developer trillian pro user and Debian Linux fanatic.

I play pretty much everything, and I have to say I'm impressed with the forced teamplay in NS... even ravenshield pales in comparison to what you have to do to work together. NS is the kind of teamplay needed in a game, it's better than Allegience in its coop mechanics and more compelling than starcraft because of the great human factor.

After becoming an ok gorge I'm waiting for 1.1 with baited breath. The only other games I'm waiting for are doom3 and possibly a solid distance fog update to Q3TA and q3radiant that will expand the possibilities of huge maps and epic gameplay in a quake 3 mod.

PS: I first heard of natural selection as an April 1st sidenote, but didn't play it until someone told me about it word of mouth at a PC gamer event.

Hello all. Please bear with me as I've been on the net for a week. I would like to start playing NS but not sure what to do. Not even sure what my nick etc is even. I went into an internet cafe and saw NS being played and decided then and there I had to play. Is there a place for newbies to go and get started/help. I'm over 50 but love HL and would love to try this mod. Thanking you in advance for your advice, not sure how long before I should check back here to see if an answer has been posted, as I said very new/green at online stuff. Alright by posting / sending then looking at this post found my nick what a relief. I feel so dumb.<!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo-->

Hi fellow NS gamers. My name is Clifford (17 yrs old) and i am an expert Counter-Strike playa (been owning in that game for over 2 years now) and one of my friends introduced me to NS. At first, i didn't quite understand it so i didn't like it, but then i decided to get on it again and i almost figured the aliens out perfectly (still don't know what some of the upgrades do, though, like celerity, etc...). I still don't know much about the marines, so if anyone can give me a heads up on them, that would be nice. And opinion wise, which is better: marines or aliens?
  • MavericMaveric Join Date: 2002-08-07 Member: 1101Members
    Celerity increases your speed, Psycondar.

    <u>Heads up on marines:</u>
Work as a team. <i>Pleeease.</i> You may not have needed to work "as a team" in Counter Strike, but you HAVE to work as a team on marines, since a skulk will kill a marine in two bites and 1.5 additional bites for every armor upgrade you have. But hey, im sure you knew that already, didn't you? Well, if you go it alone you'll end up like all the other marines that go off alone.

    Dead.

Not to mention you'll really make the Commander mad, and you may not get any weapons. Comm drops everything marines need to win, fyi, that includes: weapons, health packs, ammo packs, upgrades of all sorts, buildings, and other equipment; ie: Heavy Armor (95% damage absorb AND about 100-175 defualt additional armor).

and imo, aliens are nice to play if you like to stealth it up, and marines are better in the "covering eachother to get the job done" aspect of play.

    Welcome one, <span style='font-size:9pt;line-height:100%'>welcome all,</span> <span style='font-size:8pt;line-height:100%'>watch out! a skulk's down that hall!</span> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif'><!--endemo-->

    Hey All,

Name's Thomas and from Brisbane, Australia. I'm a member of a clan as you can see bWo and I found NS through a mods page and though i'd check it out and give it a go. I tried downloading NS from a webpage and ended up with a corrupt file to my dismay. Tryin again through another page to see if that works.

The whole basis of <!--emo&::asrifle::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/asrifle.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='asrifle.gif'><!--endemo--> vs. <!--emo&::onos::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/tiny.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tiny.gif'><!--endemo--> reminds me of films such as aliens although the fact that you can build a base is pretty neat and makes things a little more refreshing compared to most of the other HL mods.

Are there bots accessable for this game or is it purely online only ? It's just that with only a 56k modem there are not many games/locations that I can join in and it would hugely dissapoint me to miss out on such a worth while game.

    Anywayz Drop A Post.
