Origin Of The Sentries

...and we thought they were original
Sure, all strategy games have turrets, and even a few fps have turrets, but where do you suppose the turrets in Natural Selection came from? The "Aliens" movie of course! That is the second movie in the Aliens saga(the first one being "Alien"). "But Wait!", you say... "There weren't sentries in the second aliens movie!" Well I bought the entire series in a new boxed set they are selling it in, and the it turns out the film I speak of had 17 minutes of additional footage that wasn't shown when the film came out, or even on many of the runs it had on TV. About 6-10 minutes of that footage is of a series of scenes where the marines put up sentries that function almost exactly like the ones in Natural Selection. They even beep like the ones in NS as they turn! These forgotten scenes were very cool(lots of xenomorphs got messed up pretty badly) and I suggest any fan of NS go out and either rent or buy a NEW copy of the movie Aliens (especially if you have never seen this particular movie at all).

But i still dont see your point...
AvP and AvP2 (I presume) also had automatic sentry turrets that beeped; however, they looked more like the siege turret (more ripping off!), and fired in a limited arc. They were also ridiculously deadly.
I find it sad that people find the need to constantly accuse games/movies of ripping off other games/movies. Why not go all the way, and say that NS is ripping off China, because it uses guns, which use gunpowder, which was first invented by the ancient Chinese?
I'd make a mod that only used sticks for weapons, but then I'd be ripping off cavemen.

On a lighter note, the Director's Cut of Aliens is *excellent*. It adds back in three major scenes that were cut from the original theatrical release - the sentry guns, the initial infestation of LV-426 (where you meet Newt's parents and brother), and Ripley's daughter. The scenes both at the beginning of the movie and around the sentry gun subplot all make a LOT more sense, continuity-wise, with the missing scenes reinserted.
First person to tell me the name of the map and area what the area is called wins a huge jar of cookies...
Yea... The scene that most adds to the film out of all of those that were cut has to be the one where Ripley learns of her daughters death of old age. Bieng a mother herself you can see why Ripley has such an affinity with Newt and why she is so willing to put her own life at risk to try and save Newt near the end of the film. If she's lost one daughter already then she is going to do everything she can to make sure she wont lose the one she has gained...
But then of course they go and ruin that in Alien 3 by killing her off, but I suppose they had to because the girl playing her had grown up...
P.S. Bonus points for telling me what is Newts full name (Newt is just a nickname)...

ns_bast 'n' corridor.

Scene from alien where the crew are racing between deck to catch the burning acid. Its lit differently and the hallway is shorther but the door is the same. Theres one corridor later on in the film which looks a lot more like the one in the map as its lit the same and the corridor resembles the one in the map much more but I couldnt get a good pic of that.
And heres your prize....

Not in the home video versions. I have a laser disc of the original as well as a VHS. They do not have the sentries.
i think ill go buy the *all aliens dvd in 1 set* thingy
its a scale of ripoff to ripoff to ripoff
Natural Selection ---> Gloom, quake 2 mod, ---> quake 2 game ----> quake 1 game -----> doom ----- > wolfenstien 3d -----> black thorne ------> nintendo ---> atari ----> room sized computer ---> idea in some dudes head -----> idea in another dudes head that he wrote on paper ---- > a monkey that was in a lab ----> bible time discussions about philosophy and antropotics ----- > jesus -------> john, a caveman ---- > larry, johns wife... ----> single celled organism ----> molten lava -----> nebula -----> star light ---- > distant cosmos -----> Larry Jr. the space alien
so quite oviously NS stole its ideas for my buddy Larry, who is here to claim his fat loots that flay is pulling down for this free game he is makin. Fork it up flayboy, were here for royalties!
