Relic might himself describe NS_Bast as a homage to Alien (1) and Aliens (2). This was always his intention.

If you want to think of comparisons between them, I can point out that Bast Atmo Processing looks and sounds a bit like the storage area on the Nostromo where Harry Dean Stanton chases the cat, gets water on his face, then gets snapped up by the alien in one of the best movie scenes ever.

The brdge area on Bast looks a bit like the bridge of the Nostromo.

The vent systems remind me of Tom Skerrit's scurrying through Nostromo vents with an incinerator.

The "C" Corridor already pictured above was (according to Rel) the original part of this map, done to see if he could duplicate that area from teh Nostromo. It has now become the Bast easter egg.

Bast uses some of the sounds from the purchased NS sound library which the Fox producers of Aliens also used. Listen to the heavy lock door at the bottom of Marine spawn elevator. You'll hear it in Aliens whenever they close big storm windows (you'll also hear it in Forbidden Planet, a sci-fi movie with Leslie Neilsen from 1956 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif'><!--endemo--> ).

All sort of stuff. Maybe Rel will pop in and add more trivia later.

It's actually not a SS easter egg... it's "Shodan," MonsE's powerhouse computer at work. On the weekends, when Shodan idled, he would "lend" out processing power to mappers who wanted to compile their maps quickly. The image you're referring to is a screenshot of NS_Nothing compiling on Shodan. (:
