"Adult" version of subnautica.

But not in a perverted sence (to avoid any misunderstandings right away)

So i was thinking about subnautica and the environment and storyline and thought about how the fear factor could be increased.

I know this is a game that tagets a broad audience and the dev's have every right to do so.
However a more "realistic" version of subnautica could be potentially interresting.

The things i thought about are:

1. Ofcourse normal blood and bleeding effects on attack or being attacked.
This could be expanded and showing cuts and beelding effect on the player hands

2. Death animations can include more blood and even organs flaiing around.

3. Next to the carar infection, a more direct posioning system for short term death posibilities (the need to heal yourself with the right serum on poison exposure)

4. Skeletons of the aurora and degashi crew . (perhaps in their last struggeling positions)
Expanding on this one: If a body or pda is found, perhaps show a flashback of the last moments when the crew(member) was still alive (but always avoiding footage
of what actually killed the member so the player is left in uncertanty)

6. Extra animations like the eyes of the sea emperor actually have an iris/ pupil and watches you every where you go in a creatain distance. (Could also be implemented
for other creatures)

7. New creature that attackes the player from below from a sand coverd hole like a bobbit worm or
something.

I don't really feel like an adult version is necessary. Most of your suggestions would work with the PG rating.

i think it is a good idea. In addition to the changes you suggested:

    1. as another factor that could make the game more frightening, you could implement a passive breathing noise, which freaks out in certain situations or while facing big threats. This could work especially well in those deep areas where it is rather quiet.

    2. im not sure which impact this one would have, but it would add more danger to the sea and make the game way more realistic, and that is implementing water pressure. when you swim down without any vehicles (or a deep sea suit, which could allow you to do that, but slows your movement for example) you start to get dizzy and eventually pass out when you dive too deep. And if you happen to get your vehicle destroyed down there, it would mean instant death. this could make the game rather frustrating, but you are constantly pressured and on guard when you visit the facilitys which are located deep down on the bottom of the ocean, which would add a whole new feeling to the game.

problem is it is one or the other, you can't just have a pack that ups the rating as just having that will up the rating of the base game.

In retrospect i'm not sure how this would be implemented for the game.

Anyways it was just something that wonderd in my mind and the additional suggestions are interessting.

Perhaps some things can be implemented trough a mod or something but the official game would be diffcult i guess.

Oh, I was going to note that the two largest Leviathans have impressive tentacles. Er, nevermind.

I respectfully disagree with this suggestion.

The ominous environment and predators that can come out of nowhere are perfectly capable of creating fear factor on their own. Adding gore/bodies/etc doesn't necessarily make a game scarier (but it can make it disgusting), and it's been overdone in more than enough games (like The Forest) that I find it refreshing that Subnautica goes out of its way to be clean in this regard.

hmm it looks like an E10+ game can have human skeletons but that is as close as you can get. and they can't be burned, fleshy, or anything but white and shiny. well death by biters right there.

A bobbit worm would actually be a great creature addition IMHO. Especially if it was big enough to be a threat to the Prawn so you would have to watch your step in some areas.

This title of this here thread is rather suggestive 15.gif

I half expected "Rated R", not "Adult"

I support only number 7, the bobbit worm, except it would be awesome as an octopus, not a larva.

    I'm not for it.

I think it's more ominous to fade to black and treat the player as the player. I'm okay with the underwater scream part with the red flash to let me know that I'm getting blindsided by something, but the heavy breathing stuff is similar to a fake laugh track on tv. I'm just not into it.

Guts hanging out doesn't imo make it any more adult, and just adolescent gore porn, which is generally a game that is fishing for a demographic that is younger than the age it is rated at.

why I saw the title it made me think of 'those' Skyrim mods I have heard about and I was thinking that would make the game completely different

the game is PG and it should stay that way, blood, death animations and human skeletons can all effect that

After thinking about this, i have been a bit excessive with the gore i admit.

However i do argue that point 3, 6 and 7 would make a nice adition to the game and would not affect the pg rating (i think?)

I think at one point there were plans for a massive ambush predator in the Dunes not unlike a bobbit worm. It got removed due to focusing elsewhere, I think, but it might not be a bad idea for an expansion pack or something.

I agree with things above with changes. Not in the main game but a thriller, horror based dlc would be great! It is a strange planet with stranger creatures; the potential is too great to pass, i think.

YES IVE BEEN WANTING A MORE VIOLENT EXPERIENCE!!!
Hear me out i love this game to death, it is my favorite game ever, and i know how much work it took, but the Aurora is so empty, and all the lifepods, and yellow blood? Okay, like i said i know the amount of work all this took but id love a more scary feel, I appreciate the work done for this game, its amazing

There's a reason why there is yellow blood. Lower age rating and because it is a different planet.

I like the game the way it is. If I knife a Stalker, it leaves me alone. Good enough for me.

This thriller based DLC idea will force developers to attract a new gamer type and upset the main gamer type of Subnautica like @NorthernBruce and me if it will come as a DLC or an update. Because when the DLC comes all followers' expectation will be on an expansion of the main game, not sth. radically different.

So this idea should be an entirely different game that should be published between Subn. 1 and Subn. 2.

It seems we are all forgetting that this game is already terrifying half the time! Bleeders? NOPE! Deep water? NOPE! Explosive fish? NOPE! Oxygen limits? Stressful! I disagree. This game already scares the crap out of me every time I load it up. Somehow, this non-horror game has managed to become absolutely terrifying almost every chance it gets.
The death animations are fine and don't need to be tuned up (wait my hand just did a 360) but some do need fixing. It would've been nice if there was some evidence that the Aurora had a crew at some point, as all we find in the current version is a light dusting of PDAs. After the Aurora goes boom most organic matter was vaporized, but it would make sense to find bones scattered arround the ship, especially near the drive core.
The NOPE is stronge with Subnautica and I overall, disagree that this game needs to have the fear/gore factor tuned up.
