I'm not entirely sure what the setting is, you might need a certain post count to be able to create a new thread... @Foxy any word on this and that annoying 15min max edit time
I don't quite get why these changes were necessary; I know @Foxy posted earlier that they were nuking excessive spam posters. (Roast em! Toast em!
The edit timer seems counterproductive definitely, and especially for someone like me who's obsessed with stamping out typos or spotting a sentence that coulda been clarified better, then riiiiiiiight after I finish editing I see something else that could be fixed, and then it gives me a post ban xD
Posting makes sense, but editing uh.... Not as much?
Although, I will say this, if spam bots are targeting your forums, it might be a good sign (as you show up as popular in search engines etc, and the spambots are trying to ride that to blast their content to as many people as possible. If these spambots are even aware of those metrics. Depends on how much work went into the spambot!)
Post it here and ask someone to x-post it to Bug Reporting.

You can still edit as you like, it just doesn't show you the update. You have to refresh the page to see it, but by all means edit to your hearts content WITHIN THAT 15MIN

BUT edits also counts towards the maximum of creating two threads within 2min. That is basically all it counts towards, you can still post and edit (you can simply ignore that red banner for this. The thing is, you aren't allowed to create new threads when that banner pops up tell you to gtfo
*** That 15min , edit time is a bastard in any case ***
\o/
I rarely reply to other threads in a forum I'm new to. a.) I don't know the players involved so don't want to butt in and b) I usually join forums when I'm pretty new to the game so it's not like I'm going to be able to help many people that ask questions.
Necessary evil, unfortunately. There was a plague of spambots recently, and each one was a new account that began blast-posting. I totally understand your point and agree, but it was kind of a triage situation. Hopefully, a more precise solution will be in the offing.
I'm not running the forums so I guess I can't really know but how do other forums handle the same situation. I'm members of several and this is the only one I couldn't even ask a question. Wouldn't a verification email have sufficed?
So when will I be able to post new threads? I have this great deal on working from home I think everyone here would be interested in. J/K
I think maybe asking a question or something might be one possible solution. Make it something relatively simple so people could still get in like what the developers are called (Unknown Worlds
It wouldn't catch everything but it'd allow the legit users to at least ask their questions right off the bat.
I know it may be disappointing that changes had to be implemented to combat the spam threads. But please remember it is a human person investing their time to moderate theses forums. One again, it is a very hard job to do.
The edit feature allows for people with reading issues like dislexia to re read their posts and make appropriate changes, the timer allows for a 15 minute window that is really unfair on slow readers to need to edit or the dislexic who couldn't find the issue, please remove the timer on the edit cause I use an iPad and when it auto corrects it's screws up my post and if I can't fix it it triggers my OCD.
Yes, it is. But, the solution chosen to stop spam also stopped legitimate posters from using the forums for their intended purpose. At least by anyone other than current members. If ease of moderation is the only metric, then shut them down. That is far and away the easiest forum to moderate.
I had a basic question in how to get around a bug in the new build. To ask it, I had to hijack someone else's thread. I tried to pick one that it made the most sense to ask in but it was still relatively off topic. I really don't like having to do it that way.

That should be a good balance between spam protection and annoyance.
Awesome~ And the increased edit time should help loads for those like me who end up seeing tons of flaws and typos with their posts after making them xD
Though I noticed since the update, the IMG feature isn't working anymore
TBH I see no use in enforcing a time limit on edits, having them counting towards spam protection. I've yet to encounter a bot which edits their own posts
