Titanium DOES rust, it just does very slowly. In 100,000 years (not a typo), the titanium in your laptop will finally begin to corrode.
Funny, but the only structures that old on Subnautica are not made of titanium. In any case a few hundred years shouldn't count. The only place for titanium structures to corrode should be the acidic Lost River. It also happens to be the only place of a ruined Precursor base.

A form of bacteria like the Carar would be a reasonable explanation for why the abandoned bases look like they are rusted. There is also the starfishes in the abandoned seabases that could cause corrosive effects on Titanium that looks like rust.

Tested, but not implemented on a widespread basis. Too much trouble for not enough gain. It's still in plenty of other items you ingest, though. Toothpaste, a lot of candy, some cheeses...all kinds of products, really. But it's nothing to get worked up about; it's biologically inert - all that folderol you hear about titanium dioxide being a carcinogen is misleading at best. Only when it's inhaled has it been shown to have any carcinogenic potential, and even that was pretty slight. Eating or drinking it is harmless.

Any slowly go insane trying to find it. It is amazing how many materials can be created with differing amounts of iron and carbon. Especially, when you add heat treatment techinques. Titanium might be better, but Steel makes the world go round.
