As the title says, after the last "bones" update, my game is virtually unplayable. Spawning from the savegame around the kelp forest, I have some awful stuttering, sometimes freezes upwards of 40 s, followed by a very low framerate, eventually crashing. Drivers up to date. Tried re-installing and verifying the cache. No dice. Attaching dxdiag and the start of the error log. The log is 10 MB, so if you want more please let me know what parts to copy.

I am also experiencing crashes with the Bones update. On my saved game and in a new game. At first it would crash after 3-5 minutes but now it's stretched to about 10 minutes of play and then crash. Frames drop suddenly and then nothing. My drivers are up to date and I did the steam file verify.

Even though my game is crashing, I had a little bit of fun - in one of my moments of play I found a young reefback that had loaded in as a floater rock... attached a bunch of extra floaters to him and got him to the surface and floated around of a moment before crashing.

If you guys want, you can try:

    1) Move the two cache folders, CellsCache and CompiledOctreesCache in your slot000x folder to another folder, say, \bkdisabled

    2) Create a new saved game of the same type you are in (not sure if it has to be the same type but hey)

    3) Move the two folders from that saved game folder (the new one you just created) to the saved game folder you are trying to rescue.

    4) Attempt loading. Your terrain will be reset, so expect areas in your bases to have dirt etc in them, deconstruct and re-build to fix (staring from the inside lockers, solar panels, etc!)

EDIT: updated names of folders. Your saved game folder is Steam\steamapps\common\Subnautica\SNAppData\SavedGames\slot000x

    Hey guys!

Subnautica is currently in Early Access and as such you may from time to time encounter bugs and in the worst case, crashes. If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please see How to report Crashes.

If your issue is not crashing but has something to with with save/load then please continue reading. Examples of save/load bugs are:
    • Items missing from your inventory or storage containers
    • Items becoming other items
    • Submarines or bases missing
    • Status changes (energy, health, etc.)
    • Other stuff not coming up exactly like you left it

If you experience a bug like the above please make sure to send a report just like the crash report but in addition to that please send your save game directory. Do the following:

Follow the guide on Steam to locate the Subnautica folder. Then navigate to SNAppData:

    eLLXouz.png

Go into the SavedGames subdirectory. Copy the "test" directory to something like "test2". Delete the "CompiledOctreesCache" folder inside. Afterwards zip the "test2" folder and send it to me or create a new thread in this forum and attach the file.

    Thanks for helping us out!

If you have issues with stability of Subnautica, please post your issues with as much detail as possible (video/screenshots/descriptions), followed by the following requested information:

    Example Topic Title:
[Crash] Open my Locker and Crash! [Version Number]

    1) Please run dxdiag.exe (search windows for it) on your systems and hit the button 'save all information' in the bottom right. Save this file for later.

    2) Navigate to your Subnautica Folder in Steam (should be steamapps\common\Subnautica)

    3) Open the Subnautica_Data folder and grab a copy of 'output_log.txt'

    PJAwuF0.png

    4) Upload all the text of these to something like http://pastebin.com/ and post the public links to them with your forum posts.

These 2 files will GREATLY help us in tracking down issues with Subnautica. Thanks!

Crashing launching or playing Subnautica? Follow these steps to make a good tech support post!

    Edit by Jonas:
We've also got a very similar guide with pictures for each step on Steam.
And as in every good tech support:
    • Please make sure that your Windows is up to date.
    • Please make sure that your drivers are up to date.
    • Please make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements.
    • Please close all other applications before starting the game.
    • Have you tried turning it off and on again? ;)

Tried replacing those folders, see no improvement. Same freezing and stuttering leading up to a crash.

Edit: oh and this user describes the issue quite well http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/145926/stuttering-into-freeze-crashes#latest

Alright. Well, if that didn't fix it, delete those 2 folders and replace them with the old ones you put in \bkdisabled or whatever (to eliminate that as a possible cause of future complications).

    Here we go! http://forums.unknownworlds.com/discussion/145963/temporary-fix-for-recent-crashes-build-40062#latest

Like I say in that thread, it seems similar to the previous solution to replace the cache folders with ones from a new savegame. Maybe I didn't do it properly. Anyway, my game now works as it did before. No stuttering, performance issues (well, not more than before at least), and so far no crashes

When you delete all that cache what information is being removed? Is it removing the catalog of default items? I'm concerned that deleting all the data will respawn new nodes to harvest and even parts such as solar panels and blueprints. Or does deleting all those files just remove any other terrain deformation/addition that the player may have performed?
