I can understand not just dumping all the loot where you died to add more of a consequence for death, but why not put the loot back where it came from? Unless that'd be hard to implement. As it stands, if you luck out and find a bunch of (silver, let's say) loot, and get carried away, if you die, when you come back, you've mined all of it already, and it's all gone -- what do?

I think if you die, the game should reset back to the last save.

Or your possessions should remain or they should be restored to where you found them or resources should be renewable.

I'm in favor of #3, but anything to amend this will do. I don't suffer this anymore nowadays, but I did in my first few games and get by default itchy if resources are limited. So losing some permanently doesn't make me happy.

I'd rather see them dropped where you died. There is the thing that killed you usually waiting for you so it isn't that easy to get them back. To spice things up maybe some carnivores would get attracted to your loot? Like Stalkers attracted to metals you've carried, leeches attaching to your corpses and stuff like that to not make the retrieval too easy. Furthermore, if they implement the dropped loot that needs recovering dropping your entire inventory would also make the retrieval super hard since you either have some backup at your main base or you go in naked.

How does respawning tie into the lore, anyway? Did we luck out with the only pod whose brain-scanning cloning machine still works? Are we the only guy whose emergency-medical-teleport implant didn't get fried? Magic?

Games usually explain this kind of thing.
