The new lighting, water and skybox systems are now available in the public 'experimental' steam beta branch. The 'Shocking update' does not include these, but includes a lot of new content which we could no longer hold back due to the continued work on the new graphics systems.
We wanted to give you guys a meaty update, we hope the Shocking Update fulfills that, while we get feedback and bug reports about the new graphics systems in the experimental steam beta.
Ah, thanks for the heads up. Better stable new graphics that take a bit longer, than buggy new graphics right now.
As Obraxis said, the new lighting effects are in experimental right now. Currently the new lighting is VERY buggy/glitchy, but I can tell its going to look amazing once its finished.
Same here.
The surface water looks great. The motion is very realistic. The sky, planet-moon, and sea glide map, also very cool. I'm guessing(hoping) you'll add storms at some point based on the cool thunder audio you had a few versions back.
Awesome Job!
Enjoying it so far...
However, underwater color and distance is a bit off now. Hopefully just a bad shader issue.
Hope the intent is to get back to clear blue water.
I was enjoying the crystal clear blue water of an "alien planet" look. It's currently not following a blue sky/sandy bottom look anymore. Green and dark, and I have to play with the "Day" cheat on all the time now to enjoy the bottom scenery. Kinda feels like the north east coast of the U.S. right now. The green tint and limited distance feels more like bays that have a dark grassy bottom with black mud.
I play it in waves, so I get a bunch of new stuff at once.
Looks quite fun.
I've got August build 21956 on OS X. Steam says the game cache integrity is ok.
Update: Deleted and re-downloaded the whole game, still the August build.
Exactly the same. Seems like the wrong build was pushed for OS X.
The devs are well aware of this. They made the conscious decision to ignore that aspect of the lighting physics in favor of making a more colorful game.
