I know our character is eating the foods readily available to him, but isn't a diet of solely salted fish a historically bad idea? (Scurvy?) I don't know for certain but don't people need vitamin C to prevent this?

Acid mushrooms likely have vitamin c sorted,  assuming that it is citric acid.

Cant eat the mushrooms anymore. The item description is now "pure acid" lol.

    Hmm...
I have not played in the new patch, just moved and have not got my PC set up. But in that case, creepvine should work to. Any sort of fruit or green plant. I just wonder how something made of pure acid is alive..... Would have been better to make it so that if you eat a lot of them fast you take some damage. You should go see the food tread, lots of ideas for them there.

There was a really long thread about "Subnautica Cuisine" I think was the name with all sort of suggestions for food preparations.

Remember we can also eat nutrient blocks which is more than enough to keep us healthy.

If there were any at all :P
It seems that loot containers' contents are random, and I haven't found a single block yet. They're also not craftable.
I find it much more disconcerting that the player doesn't have to go to the toilet (or even has one) over the course of several (earth) days. Or the lack of sleep :P
I mean there is neither a toilet, nor a bed in the escape pod... Or any food and water for that matter.

Well.. There is the lower hatch. For me that would suffice :| Poo only floats for a while!

But yeah, a bed would be nice, and the random loot is really weird for a life pod. Should be food/water/batteries/basic tools mostly.

The stillsuit has recycle functions. I'd assume the regular suit dispenses waste matter.

What about harvestable fruits from the big island? I wouldn't mind trying some martian citrus. Mmmmm.

Oh yeah that thread was pure awesomeness. I hope that discussion will be taken into consideration by the developers. Would also be nice to be able to craft nutrient blocks at some point, but not too early in the game or too easily.

For all we know peepers have citric acid produced for some reason. This could be why it gives the most food back for eating it. I see the food bar as an overall 'nutritional need' bar, and as we exert ourselves we need to replace nutrients.

...Yes this is a handwave, but I really don't want to see the food system get more complicated. It's enough of a hassle just as it is.

This could easily be hand waved that some gear got destroyed on splashdown (the pod IS rather messed up) and that is all that could be salvaged.
