    If this game goes to Linux, I will no longer have a reason to use Windows.

    forgive my ignorance: I'm forced to use osx at work, but shouldn't a Linux build work on osx as well?

    No they are different operating systems. They do however share a number of underlying systems, which makes it a bit easier to port between them.
