Based on that trace route you can tell it isn't the game. Routers are having problems.
Regarding vortex. Now the cool down after using it, before you can do anything is full 2 seconds, which is really excessive. Also, you can bypass it by switching to swipe, which enables to shadowstep or blink immediately; it only stops swipe. I think it adds unnecessary complexity, why not get rid of the cool down altogether?
After the new update when i submitted a crash log, Steam auto updated the game to a build 228 and i can't fix that. Local content is verified and i've even tried to update to a beta build but the game stays at build 228 and i can't play.
Steps to error: 1. Played a game 2. Game crashed. 3. Waited a game to submit a crash log 4. Tried to open natural selection 2 from steam to play again. 5. Steam updates the game 6. Game is build 228
Same here, i've crashed from alt tabbing while loading a map and it is downloading a 71.2Mb update, so maybe i am reversing to build 228 too ? Edit : Hopefuly i am at build 237, now i have to wait until server upgrade..

Found a reason with the error in patch mismatch. You have to disable ALL mods that you are using or Natural Selection 2 will assign a random(or is it just 228?) build for the player.

How about keeping track of your stats too. Its easy. I got a pen and paper right next to my PC. It takes 2 seconds to mark the game outcome. Just don't lie about them. Doing so does you, UWE and everybody else, no good. 5 games is not near enoguh to get a good stat for this new patch but it is off to a real bad start. Before the patch I captured 83 games, 61 of them were won by aliens (74%).

In my case I'm getting really bored. I can't stand to play aliens anymore since it just isn't a challenge. Honestly it feels like easy mode. So I stick to marines (since it's rarely stacked that way anymore) which despite the obvious imbalance, gives me a challenge. I don't expect to win games, but if we do it's always a nice surprise.
I've stopped worrying about it though because the devs will fix it when they want to fix it. It's not like they don't know about it, since they have admitted they know there is an imbalance. The question isn't 'if' they will fix it but 'when'.
It's too bad they don't examine some simple changes like electrified res nodes, which was a balance fix added in NS1 to address an almost identical problem. They could toss it on an internal and/or PT server and see how it plays. If it doesn't work then no harm no foul.
Almost every game the marines lose tends to be from inability to secure resources, which it hard when you have to leave behind undefended extractors and push forward, only to need to run back to defend them. So it turns into a glorified game of whack-a-mole (or more appropriately whack-a-skulk) and when the dust settles the aliens have capped most of the map and marines are still trying to keep up two external extractors. At that point the Onos parade rolls in and it's game over.
The first hundred games recorded (excluding combat) on ns2stats has the win ratio at 75% for aliens, which feels about right. Sooner or later they'll adjust balance, I'm hoping for sooner. :)
On the plus side I'm loving the Docking map. The mappers did a great job on refreshing it.

marines lose because aliens get too much 'control' in early game (thus denying phase gate staging areas). the reason for that is 90% because marines struggle to hit skulks with AR. seriously, i mean a 1v1 against a skulk can be tricky - but on countless occasions i've witnessed a situation where i'm ambushed by a camo skulk and my 2-3 allies subsequently die to the same lone skulk.
imo it's almost entirely down to lazy or lousy aiming. not just 'unpracticed' aiming, but BAD aiming. often when the skill level of each team is fairly even; you have a very close game, because in such a game the marines generally don't get crapped on by skulks.

The vent from courtyard to east wing does not allow a gorge or fade to get throught it, only skulk and lerk. Is this part of the design or a flaw? It stops a fade from supporting east wing and now must either go throuh terminal or double back thru stability/north/depart.

I'll agree that there are many who die because they have problems tracking and aiming at fast moving targets. (especially new players versus experienced skulks)
However, hit registration issues are *still* present in the game. I've been in third person spec and seen 4 people trying to kill a skulk, and I could see they were pointing close enough to score some hits (since there is a bullet spread with the LMG) - but the skulk just wasn't dying. Skip ahead to another game on another server and people are having no problems at all. This is happening with 'vets' as well, so skill can't be claimed as a factor.
I'm hoping that one of these days something will click and I'll get a clue as to why it happens. Right now I am still scratching my head since I can't reproduce it with any certainty.

(It also stops marines too for what it's worth. Sometimes vents are sized small for just that reason.)
Off to a great start on this patch. Maybe it's just on my side, but my LMG has conveniently decided to stop shooting 5 times during my first match. 1. Hear a skulk. 2. See a skulk. 3. Shoot at the skulk. 4. 10 bullets later (plenty still in the clip), gun decides it won't shoot anymore. 5. Die.
I emptied 5 clips in the spawn without a problem, spinning around madly shooting the windows and floor. But as soon as I aim at an actual skulk, gun stops shooting after a few bullets. Ping is fine, FPS is fine, nothing on my side has changed, no mods, yada yada yada.

I agree with you. I use to play aliens when the game released because people kept saying marines were OP blah blah blah because they ran in a straight line. Now the balance have shifted and I tend to go marines for the challenge. Even if we lose it's fun still.
Departures/east wing seems a bit more difficult for marines to take now because of all the levels added. Then there's that power node on the wall that sticks out seems out of place and makes departures seem kind of clunky Well it could give aliens cover I guess. Idk I guess I just feel departures should be a bit more spaced out. Might I ask the reason the node was moved? Cafe is also another marine point that seems harder to protect. A billboard in front of the resource node that protects aliens chomping on the marines nodes or protects the alien res tower itself if they manage to get one up. As well as the command station being further in. I agree with the lockers shortcut being removed though that just made things too easy.
In any case the upcoming content patch just seems to be geared towards making the gorge more useful although I cannot gauge how tunnels and babblers will affect the aliens. But the railgun exo seems like a late game thing where the game is already determined. And it's still an exo which in itself limits it usefulness given the exo weakness covered in other threads.
Oh well at least they addressed that there is an imbalance and have a lot of playtesters and competitive players to see how it goes. I just hope the changes come sooner because most people are not patient.

Is anybody else having trouble every now and then with cysting up/down certain ramps and such due to the new minimum distance? I've had problems with finding a place to cyst purely because the gradual increase of height it allows means I can only place some cysts within the 6 meter minimum distance, and of course, you can't do that anymore. And if you go above the minimum distance, it's too much of a jump in height. Meaning you can't cyst past certain points depending on where your other cysts are, if there's a jump in height. I try place the cyst one place, and it's below minimum distance, I try and place it another, and it gets denied due to the vertical difference. Mostly, I can find a place for a cyst to go, but after ages of clicking around.
I can see why the minimum distance was increased - to combat cyst spam. But it's making cysting a nightmare in some circumstances, and impossible in others.

How about keeping track of your stats too. Its easy. I got a pen and paper right next to my PC. It takes 2 seconds to mark the game outcome. Just don't lie about them. Doing so does you, UWE and everybody else, no good. 5 games is not near enoguh to get a good stat for this new patch but it is off to a real bad start. Before the patch I captured 83 games, 61 of them were won by aliens (74%).

In my case I'm getting really bored. I can't stand to play aliens anymore since it just isn't a challenge. Honestly it feels like easy mode. So I stick to marines (since it's rarely stacked that way anymore) which despite the obvious imbalance, gives me a challenge. I don't expect to win games, but if we do it's always a nice surprise.
I've stopped worrying about it though because the devs will fix it when they want to fix it. It's not like they don't know about it, since they have admitted they know there is an imbalance. The question isn't 'if' they will fix it but 'when'.
It's too bad they don't examine some simple changes like electrified res nodes, which was a balance fix added in NS1 to address an almost identical problem. They could toss it on an internal and/or PT server and see how it plays. If it doesn't work then no harm no foul.
Almost every game the marines lose tends to be from inability to secure resources, which it hard when you have to leave behind undefended extractors and push forward, only to need to run back to defend them. So it turns into a glorified game of whack-a-mole (or more appropriately whack-a-skulk) and when the dust settles the aliens have capped most of the map and marines are still trying to keep up two external extractors. At that point the Onos parade rolls in and it's game over.
The first hundred games recorded (excluding combat) on ns2stats has the win ratio at 75% for aliens, which feels about right. Sooner or later they'll adjust balance, I'm hoping for sooner. :)
On the plus side I'm loving the Docking map. The mappers did a great job on refreshing it.

marines lose because aliens get too much 'control' in early game (thus denying phase gate staging areas). the reason for that is 90% because marines struggle to hit skulks with AR. seriously, i mean a 1v1 against a skulk can be tricky - but on countless occasions i've witnessed a situation where i'm ambushed by a camo skulk and my 2-3 allies subsequently die to the same lone skulk.
imo it's almost entirely down to lazy or lousy aiming. not just 'unpracticed' aiming, but BAD aiming. often when the skill level of each team is fairly even; you have a very close game, because in such a game the marines generally don't get crapped on by skulks.

NO! I am tired of that excuse. If it is so ***** hard to aim than fix that! There is no excuse for a 75% imbalance. Fix WHATEVER it takes and do it above everything else (short of the game crashing) If I could get my money back for this game I would. Not because the DEVs don't deserve the money overall but they don't deserve it right now until they re-evaluate their priorities.
BTW, I have now played 9 games since 3:00pm today. Aliens have won the 8 of them. Build 236 is off to a wonderful start.

9 games isn't a big enough statistic to make that call on imbalance. Besides the RTS part of the marines forces them to push out more agressively, if marines don't do that or keep dying then they will indeed lose... The same goes for an alien team that doesn't harras marines or dies too much...
However, hit registration issues are *still* present in the game. I've been in third person spec and seen 4 people trying to kill a skulk, and I could see they were pointing close enough to score some hits (since there is a bullet spread with the LMG) - but the skulk just wasn't dying. Skip ahead to another game on another server and people are having no problems at all. This is happening with 'vets' as well, so skill can't be claimed as a factor.
I'm hoping that one of these days something will click and I'll get a clue as to why it happens. Right now I am still scratching my head since I can't reproduce it with any certainty.
Maybe it's just on my side, but my LMG has conveniently decided to stop shooting 5 times during my first match.
1. Hear a skulk.
2. See a skulk.
3. Shoot at the skulk.
4. 10 bullets later (plenty still in the clip), gun decides it won't shoot anymore.
5. Die.
I emptied 5 clips in the spawn without a problem, spinning around madly shooting the windows and floor. But as soon as I aim at an actual skulk, gun stops shooting after a few bullets.
Ping is fine, FPS is fine, nothing on my side has changed, no mods, yada yada yada.

I agree with you. I use to play aliens when the game released because people kept saying marines were OP blah blah blah because they ran in a straight line. Now the balance have shifted and I tend to go marines for the challenge. Even if we lose it's fun still.
Departures/east wing seems a bit more difficult for marines to take now because of all the levels added. Then there's that power node on the wall that sticks out seems out of place and makes departures seem kind of clunky Well it could give aliens cover I guess. Idk I guess I just feel departures should be a bit more spaced out. Might I ask the reason the node was moved? Cafe is also another marine point that seems harder to protect. A billboard in front of the resource node that protects aliens chomping on the marines nodes or protects the alien res tower itself if they manage to get one up. As well as the command station being further in. I agree with the lockers shortcut being removed though that just made things too easy.
In any case the upcoming content patch just seems to be geared towards making the gorge more useful although I cannot gauge how tunnels and babblers will affect the aliens. But the railgun exo seems like a late game thing where the game is already determined. And it's still an exo which in itself limits it usefulness given the exo weakness covered in other threads.
Oh well at least they addressed that there is an imbalance and have a lot of playtesters and competitive players to see how it goes. I just hope the changes come sooner because most people are not patient.

Alright how about this then. 13 games. 12 alien wins. Good yet? I am done with this game. In the history of 30 years of gaming, I have never seen a game so imbalanced as this one for so long. Good job UWE. You worked on this for 10 years??? What a waste of all that time and all the good things about this game to blow it on something so obvious, so important and so easy to address. Maybe you don't get it perfect all at once, but what did you do in this patch? Make it worse if anything. Anyway, ban me or whatever, I am done.

I can see why the minimum distance was increased - to combat cyst spam. But it's making cysting a nightmare in some circumstances, and impossible in others.
