Lots of good improvements, especially for the editor, though what's up with the new lighting?
Contrast is definitely better but now things look a bit odd, i think fog was covering it up a bit before, would be good if lighting had a softer and more natural falloff distance, most maps are already a bit too dark in places so this just makes things worse.
Bugs...
Sound is messed up at times, either too quiet, doesn't play or cut's out, also the cinematics don't turn off in the editor and minimaps are still missing lots of geometry, this bug has gotten worse and no one seems to care, i can't update my map until it's fixed (devs test using my map if you don't believe me) it happens all the time now, alien side is missing most stuff, so i won't be mapping until it's fixed.
Finally hitreg is back to level it should be! The game is sooo much better now and it seems like that marines are now overpowered. Too bad you didnt increase fade's hp, because with this hitreg you can solo fade with a lmg clip.
For weeks I have been keeping track of the ratio of alien wins to marine wins. It is a whopping 74% of the games, I have played, Aliens have won. I desperately looked for this build to address the BLANTANTLY OBVIOUS GAME-BREAKING balance issue with this game.
This is the only balance change: •Cysts now start with 50 health (down from 100) •Increased minimum distance that Cysts can be placed near other Cysts (now 6 meters up from 2 meters)
That is it?? Its a nerf to aliens but is that enough to correct this? Along with the patch came "fixes" that actually "buff" aliens, like gorge spit working now. I have no issues with fixing bugs like that as long as the balance is maintained. Since it was never balanced, it may make the game worse.
I am going reset my win/loss stats and keep track from 0. I wonder if UWE can track wins/losses. I have never heard any official statitstics on this. If they are not tracking it, how are they ever going to balance the game?
BTW, some people are saying that new players was the cause of marines losing so much. I don't agree. Maybe that was a factor in December, not mid-January.
I think I've seen some of the notes in the changelog into past builds, specifically in the optimization section about bloom performance, particle quality menu and "Changed fullscreen passes to be rendered using a single triangle rather than a two triangle quad to eliminate overshading pixels along the diagonal." Anyway, can somebody confirm if they have higher framerate than before? Thanks

I figured it was all coming together, seeing how the had promised to update once a week and a content patch a month, or something along those lines.
The game has been out for months and weve seen no new content other than this now reworked map.
Dont care much, rarely played anymore since it was impossible to shoot anything, and if my connection lost a packet, id jump up to 999 ping and get locked up and disconnected (yes, 1 packet, monitored the connection while playing, 1 packet out of 100 and the game acted as if I had lost my connection entirely)
I am horrible with dates, but I think its been more than a week since the last patch and more than a month since the last content update (1.0 release)

I'd wager a guess that the reason there aren't many balance changes are two fold:
1) Hit-reg was supposedly improved. This can (and has in the past) cause a large swing back to marines and too many balance changes can relegate aliens to being over nerfed. We don't need knee jerk reactions as this is not beta anymore.
2) The larger content patch is coming. With new abilities in the pipeline there is more to balance. Changing too much now will lead to more complicated changes in the big patch.

For number 1, that can be considered a "buff" for marines that may make a difference, I agree. I question how often marines were missing when skulks were on walls though. I guess we'll see if it helps.
For number 2, game imbalance like what we are seeing needs to be addressed above all else. New content is great but unless it comes out tomorrow, it is just X more weeks with a broken game. And when it comes out, will it fix the balance then? I am sick of playing this game as knowing if I am on a marine team, there is a very large chance we are going get crushed, and usually, crushed BAD.

Did you totally skip over the whole part where hit registration for Marines was improved!?!?
I get a solid 60 now in large fights in a 24p server on veil. Not sure if this was like that before though. New infestation is much nicer. I noticed that I could still spam cysts however, but not when there's multiple marines. Good change. I would say my specs is around what should be recomended though for this game, which is a GTX460 and a i7 3770k @ 4.2ghz. Obviously an i5 would be the same as well, but 4ghz seems about right for CPU power on a 18p server.

NO. I question how significant it is. So marines will hit skulks more often when they are on walls. How often is that? Most of time I get killed from a skulk, he is jumping around me like a lunatic, getting a bite registered every mouse click. He doesn't spend too much time on the wall. But maybe, just maybe this change will help. We'll see.

Oh, and comedy isnt your forte, dont try so hard.
Well there's no need for personal insults. Especially not grammatically incorrect personal insults.
Your post said that you were disappointed with UWE's rate of updates (which I find outrageous), and that you don't bother playing much anyway because you have some strange connection issue (which [/i]may[/i] not be attributable to the game, I've not seen other complaints about this...).
If I have misunderstood your post, which seems extremely negative to me, then I apologise.
I'm grateful for the massive effort that UWE are putting in to continue to develop and support their game. The rate of updates is great, and they're really improving it each time in meaningful ways. It's an exciting time to be playing NS!
With that said, I'm fed up of people constantly moaning about UWE on these forums (sorry, whose forums are they again?): it's completely disrespectful, and in most cases the points being raised are dubious at best.
Maybe I'm wrong, but what this boils down to can be summarised as follows:
UWE: Here's a huge list of fixes and updates we've made in a short space of time, there's loads more in the pipeline, too. Enjoy!
Random Forumite: WTF that sucks.
I'm not going to apologise for stating that I find sentiments like this offensive.
Also let's wait and see before we start screaming about balance shall we?
Balance previously has been skewed by numerous sales over the holidays. I still see and hear plenty of new people trying to get used to the game. I do see Marine played correctly once in a while, but it's pretty rare. Once people really learn Marines, which has a steeper learning curve, I expect it'll even out.

QUOTE (MrChoke @ Jan 16 2013, 07:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

NO. What I do is leap sideways and swing my mouse back where I used to be. The skulk usually ends up in my screen 50% of the time.
Good tracking is important, so I recommend increasing your mouse sensitivity if you are having problems turning around. Yes, if you have to pick up your mouse to turn, that means your sensitivity is too low.

So X person makes Y promise and then fails to deliver, and the person complaining, who happens to be the one promised Y by X, is ungrateful for pointing it out?
Color me surprised, I thought promises were meant to be kept, man, maybe im wrong after all!
You missunderstood my post alright, you also tried being funny and failed. But maybe, just maybe this change will help. We'll see.
You must be out of your mind then, or you have no clue what hate means.

You also discredit a problem I very much have with the game simply because you "have not seen others complain about this", which is ok, youre not a dev, thankfully, so I dont expect approval of my problem from you. And now you are all apologetic and trying to elaborate a post trying to do who knows what. news flash, I dont care what you have to say, I never bashed the game, I pointed out a failure on a promise, you took it to levels I never went to, and made a fool of yourself by doing so (specially that crappy joke, seriously, what were you thinking?)

This isn't the right place to have this discussion, and I won't be drawn into such silliness.
I'll just re-iterate it: thanks UWE for all these updates you're giving us!
