Now we have to balance it back to what it was. In that unbalanced period, you just ruined every game where teams were both playing correctly because aliens no longer had a chance.

Most of my experience of NS2 so far is if you have a competent team and a good Commander to win the game. Just hafta do your part and reject the other teams res as you should since NS1. Also with teh balances with the game with competitive players/good players IS A HUGE benefactor to any game because they understand and also can bring out the best of the weapons and equipment. For ur performance on the game tho... Idk how to help u on that i play NS2 on a laptop with pretty good specs.

1) That will get better over time, but setting absolutely EVERYTHING to minimal is not going to help. Play around with your settings until you find the sweet spot.
2) I'm having a hard time finding imbalance in NS2 aside from a few problems. Onos have inflated stats, exos deal too much damage, welders weld them through anything, fade health too low (they're finally getting a well deserved buff), shotguns deal way too much damage making gameplay painful for aliens, and ARCs being mobile siege turrets that can DEPLOY ON INFESTATION. Aside from all of that, game's fine. The real imbalances going on are player skill. Oh, and lifeform explosions which happen because nobody wants to play Gorge, Lerk, or Fade anymore. Make them more attractive, suddenly you won't have 4-8 Onos pop up at once in a match. Maybe.
3) Teamwork is required on both teams. The problem you're seeing here is that new players tend to gravitate towards the marines since its familiar to them. These same new players tend to completely ignore what their commander tells them, and they all drift off to do nothing. I've lost many a game where I tell a rookie to join me, and they just twiddle their thumbs in a corner and get eaten behind me while I'm trying to deny a hive.
4) Bile Bomb is far from OP, and Gorges should definitely not cost 20 res. It takes quite a few bile bombs to take down a power node. The problem you're having is an inability to respond to it caused by many things. Your marines aren't checking their maps, your commander isn't getting notified correctly, and your respawning marines are apparently not paying attention.
GameplayWhat ever happened to squads? I think this was a useful feature in the beta builds, but disappeared some time ago.
My recommendation would be that creating an arms lab unlocks a squad leader feature where the marine commander can designate individuals as squad leaders and assign them a color (or they're assigned a color automatically). Being around a squad leader has certain benefits, which can be researched at the arms lab, such as slowly replenishing ammo or health, or faster build + repair times.
Marines need better delegation of tasks. Right now the commander controls everything, and he/she has many, many more things to do than the alien commander. This can result in poor micro AND macro gameplay simply due to not being able to multitask quickly enough to respond to multiple things happening at once. If marines can better delegate tasks to squad leaders, this can allow the marine commander to have better focus on his/her tasks, while also supporting teamwork on the ground between marines.

the problem is with cpu, the game requires a super computer or something for stable fps.
graphics card never ever tires, changing anything related to graphics usage wont affect the fps when ###### goes hot. same will apply to your gtx660. because the game uses the cpu like its sex slave. lol recent patches improved the game a bit but, again as a guy obsessed with smooth fps when it goes hot(the end game) i just pray the game ends fast.
playing in 1920 res, never bothered to lower the resolution because it does not make any notable difference in the end game lol
i53570k and GTX 660 is a good rig but don't have high hopes for stable and smooth fps.

1. its not our job to be ambassadors to a game. we paid just like everyone else who is playing. youre bashing people for the exact same reason (attitude regarding lenth of playtime).
2. everyone was new at one point, and we all sat down and played and learned how to play instead of crying on the forums about how something was OP or "broken" where does it end? all through beta and release this has been happening. "changes" arent going to fix the root problem, players dont have the patience to sit down and learn to play a game. what fixes can you implement that will even the field between a new player and a player who has been playing for over a year. there are always going to be players that are better than someone else, this isnt "broken game mechanics" or "OP imbalances" its just a fact of gaming. and the fact that ns2 is so watered down now just made it harder for new players to jump in.

Okay, so my specs are in my sig and here are my current graphics options:
-Texture Quality: High -Particle Quality: Low -Infestation: Min -AA: On -Bloom: On -Atmospherics: Off -AF: On -Ambient Occlusion: Off -Shadows: Off -Texture Streaming: Off -Multicore Rendering: On
I just ran a Benchmark test in FRAPS and got the following results:
I didn't start the benchmark until the match began and the match didn't end until almost the 30 minute mark, so all of that is strictly gameplay. My FPS dipped a bit once flamethrowers came into play, but 46 FPS is still highly playable. If you can't get that performance with equal or better hardware then you need to look at updating your drivers.

honestly, i dont believe that how players are treated has as much effect on the playerbase as game content. is there enough in ns2 to keep people coming back for a year? with 3 maps and very linear gameplay? now, im not going to sit here and say that it doesnt have ANY effect because yea im sure it does have SOME but I really dont think massive amounts of people are going to leave a game they paid for because someone called them a noob. they will leave because it got old and boring to play the game or the next new shiny game came out. and this is the problem i have with ns2. it doesnt do what it did right with ns1 and its not enough good NEW things in the right direction, along with adding things that are just completely out of place. this is why in a year ns2 will be somewhat dead. ns1 is "dead" because its on a 10+ year old game engine that no one really plays anymore. not because its old and tired. not because of combat. and again im not going to say that people arent purposely being ######s to new players, but in my experience playing its rare. most of the time people are in good spirits when playing (at least when im playing). if youre referring to the forums then so be it, yea forums are going to be forums.

Logic dictates that marines at Skill Level X should be equally performant compared with aliens at Skill Level X.
Currently when skill is low, marines consistently get stomped. So the reality for most players (the majority of players; the unskilled masses) is that the game is unbalanced.

I agree with your sentiment, but in practice it seldom works. When i kill a rookie making an elementry mistake i often offer 1-line advice.
"Dont walk on floors, theyre lava" "Use drifters" "Tap blink" "Dont run up to an exo from a distance"
I could go on.
Sometimes this sort of in-game advice is perceived as some kind of insult, as if they dont know what they are doing, and thus the rookie can become defensive and call you an ass. Its at THIS point that i many good players give up and say "l2p nub". I have almost NEVER seen a good player just outright insult a rookie who was not, himself, being an ass, and the few times i have is when the rookie refused to communicate or listen to any advice.

I play both sides equally, game is balanced as long as skill in both teams are. When one team get their ass kicked, it's either because the commander is a rookie, or the team is a bunch of sissies scared of going forward when they see a single enemy.
Please devs, if you read me keep the game as it is balance-wise.

Thats really scary then since I just ordered a pc with a i53570k and GTX 660...i was really hoping for better fps then that :(. Hopefully I can still get there with all the fancy ###### turned low.
Does lowering your resolution help?
I am disappoint.

holy ######, I play on 1366x768, tried full HD and the video card crapped its pant. Multirendering helps a LOT (I think thats what the option is called, It is the last option on the menu for graphics) without that on, im one huge choke.
And I thank God that the developers use common sense. It would suck if they listened to all of you entitled kids.
Does lowering your resolution help?

the problem is with cpu, the game requires a super computer or something for stable fps.
graphics card never ever tires, changing anything related to graphics usage wont affect the fps when ###### goes hot. same will apply to your gtx660. because the game uses the cpu like its sex slave. lol recent patches improved the game a bit but, again as a guy obsessed with smooth fps when it goes hot(the end game) i just pray the game ends fast.
playing in 1920 res, never bothered to lower the resolution because it does not make any notable difference in the end game lol
i53570k and GTX 660 is a good rig but don't have high hopes for stable and smooth fps.
if only that were true :(
1. its not our job to be ambassadors to a game. we paid just like everyone else who is playing. youre bashing people for the exact same reason (attitude regarding lenth of playtime).
2. everyone was new at one point, and we all sat down and played and learned how to play instead of crying on the forums about how something was OP or "broken"
where does it end? all through beta and release this has been happening.
My point is that this game will sink or swim based on how new players are treated. This isn't some big name title that with ads running on TV. It's an 'indie' that that has survived mainly on word of mouth. With Christmas specials gone, you will see the player base contract markedly in the next couple months if this abusive treatment of new players continues.
Yes you paid for the game. However, if people don't start being 'nice' to these new players, then in a year you're going to be playing this game with maybe 50 other players on a half-dozen servers like the original NS is now.
Choose wisely.
Elitist?
Usual?
LOL. Why don't you just drop the drama queen attitude? You are trying way too hard to be confrontational. You aren't even making sense.
1. I'm not even very goid at this game. It is funny being called an elitist.
2. Go ahead and define "usual suspects". Can you point to even one other post where you feel I was being an elitist?
Now, as for the topic, I can't help it if you lack common sense. Why don't you explain how these changes would work? I'm interested in the long term, not just this week.
Lets say they buff marines a ton just because new players have a hard time aiming after 2 hours played. How does this improve the game? What happens to all of the non rookie servers that were pretty balanced before? What happens when those noobs learn to play, by putting in the time like everyone else?
I mean, this is pretty simple logic. You just ruined the game for everyone that isn't new. You ruined it for those that actually put in the time to learn. You catered to those that don't put in the time. You just screwed everyone that was already committed to this game because you think this could get others to like it... How does this make sense to you?
Then there is the extremely obvious flaw in logic. If we are balancing the game based on a new players experience, what do we do when the new ayers say the opposite? There are many threads from nrmew players claiming aliens are OP and marines never win(like this one). There are many others claiming marines are OP and aliens never win. So how do you make balance changes with these conflicting views? I'm really interested in your answer, smart guy. This should be good. I mean, we could always just dumb the entire game down. Lets make it marine vs terrorist. Maybe we can add some cool stuff like killstreak rewards and helicopters!
By the way, I help people all the time in game. I switch teams if one team is being stacked for multiple matches. I do not get mad in game. I have no idea what you are cryinflg about. I hardly ever see people trolling noobs.
When one of these new players expresses frustration at the state of the game, all they get are insults. "Learn to play", "cry moar", "uninstall if you can't play" and of course your remark calling the poster an "entitled kid".
Instead of insulting these people, why not overlook their frustration and try to offer helpful suggestions? Instead of calling this poster an 'entitled kid', why not offer a pointer or two.
Do you see what I'm getting at here?
It's not the game I'm commenting on here, it's the attitude of those playing the game.

I tried explaining why the original postets changes aren't reasonable. I got a smart ass response that had nothing to do with the topic. I gave a similar respose and you cry about me?

I just ran a Benchmark test in FRAPS and got the following results:
Time (ms): 1200000 (20 minutes)
Min: 46 FPS
Max: 134 FPS
Average: 79 FPS
I didn't start the benchmark until the match began and the match didn't end until almost the 30 minute mark, so all of that is strictly gameplay. My FPS dipped a bit once flamethrowers came into play, but 46 FPS is still highly playable. If you can't get that performance with equal or better hardware then you need to look at updating your drivers.
I'm running the 310.70 drivers for my GPU.

honestly, i dont believe that how players are treated has as much effect on the playerbase as game content. is there enough in ns2 to keep people coming back for a year? with 3 maps and very linear gameplay? now, im not going to sit here and say that it doesnt have ANY effect because yea im sure it does have SOME but I really dont think massive amounts of people are going to leave a game they paid for because someone called them a noob. they will leave because it got old and boring to play the game or the next new shiny game came out. and this is the problem i have with ns2. it doesnt do what it did right with ns1 and its not enough good NEW things in the right direction, along with adding things that are just completely out of place. this is why in a year ns2 will be somewhat dead. ns1 is "dead" because its on a 10+ year old game engine that no one really plays anymore. not because its old and tired. not because of combat. and again im not going to say that people arent purposely being ######s to new players, but in my experience playing its rare. most of the time people are in good spirits when playing (at least when im playing). if youre referring to the forums then so be it, yea forums are going to be forums.

Logic dictates that marines at Skill Level X should be equally performant compared with aliens at Skill Level X.
Currently when skill is low, marines consistently get stomped. So the reality for most players (the majority of players; the unskilled masses) is that the game is unbalanced.
When one of these new players expresses frustration at the state of the game, all they get are insults. "Learn to play", "cry moar", "uninstall if you can't play" and of course your remark calling the poster an "entitled kid".

I agree with your sentiment, but in practice it seldom works. When i kill a rookie making an elementry mistake i often offer 1-line advice.
"Dont walk on floors, theyre lava"
"Use drifters"
"Tap blink"
"Dont run up to an exo from a distance"
I could go on.
Sometimes this sort of in-game advice is perceived as some kind of insult, as if they dont know what they are doing, and thus the rookie can become defensive and call you an ass. Its at THIS point that i many good players give up and say "l2p nub". I have almost NEVER seen a good player just outright insult a rookie who was not, himself, being an ass, and the few times i have is when the rookie refused to communicate or listen to any advice.
When one team get their ass kicked, it's either because the commander is a rookie, or the team is a bunch of sissies scared of going forward when they see a single enemy.
Please devs, if you read me keep the game as it is balance-wise.
