Should be squirrels and then give the Red Bull.
Someone should make a chart of release times of all the builds. Then we could estimate a final "cut off" time
That’s like asking the presidential candidates to be nice to one another.
At this point 224 is pretty much doomed to disappoint <i>someone's</i> lofty expectations. Might as well pile on even more :)
announcing patches:
-has a risk of disappointing people if the patch is delayed
-creates massive hype in general and it is possible that the patch cannot hold up to that content-wise
-some people in EU stay up longer at night, hoping they can still try out the patch (e.g. myself to some degree)
-probably more stress for developers and playtesters as well
most of these are obviously homemade problems, but are there any real benefits? i myself don't mind being pleasantly surprised by an unexpected patch.

I stayed up to 5 AM with the promise of a 224 release :(

- this has essentially no negative side effect. Someone who is genuinely dissapointed by a delay isn't going to say "WELL I'M NOT GOING TO PLAY AT ALL THEN!".
- massive hype! Oh no! commercial success! God no!
- People eagerly waiting up thinking about their favorite game all night? Uhoh UWE sounds like trouble!
- So less hype for patch = less stress and slower release?
All very good points!
ironically, i have seen several people who are so disappointed that they skip patches entirely. plus a happy community is a good community right?
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->- massive hype! Oh no! commercial success! God no!<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
my point was not about the hype itself, it is about people possibly being disappointed (it is harder to satisfy them).

i don't even get your point here. how is it a good thing when people stay up till 5 am in vain?
<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->- So less hype for patch = less stress and slower release?<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
why would the release be slower if it was less stressed? stress can shortly speed up things yes, but not in the long run if patches roll out about every 1-2 weeks. and i bet they are stressed enough with the upcoming release already...
We can act like we are above it, and only act objectively related to the weighted consideration of how good something is or isn't, but its not true.
HYPE SELLS.

What?
Huh?
HYPE SELLS.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
but you need to hype those who don't already have the game. a bit of hype for those who already have it is fine, but not at the expense of being unsatisfied as that makes them less likely to recommend the game to friends etc.
Ok heres my day plan then...
1. Brush teeth
2. Gather possie
3. Go to UWE offices and kidnap Hugh.
4. Propose hostage exchange, Hugh for Patch 224 (To be released to public on steam)
5. Failure to comply will result in Hugh having to wear the unicorn outfit at the release press conferance.
6. Much happynesses
That is all.
This was a public annoucement by the People patch liberation repulician socialist democratic communist popular front.
