As Onii-chan mentioned, it drops off after a set distance, and you lose Hivesight.
Also, harder to tell when you're in the dark/visible which is crucial when setting up an ambush. Hard to distinguish certain elements. Can impair navigation.
I personally find myself switching it on for engagements and low lighted areas, but off most of the time. Which is what I think they intended.

Repeat from all the other threads we've had on this over the last year:
1. Add outlines to the default vision mode. Just like how you see parasited marines through walls currently, except this only shows when the marine IS visible and is always active.
2. Either remove alien vision or make it a "cool mode" for the immersion junkies.
As I've said before, I think we're just one step away from the solution - make the enemy outlines always visible for marines that you can see. Parasite simply makes them visible through walls. Then night vision is a nice thing for navigating in the dark but not necessary for combat. Problem solved.
Agreed, I also think this will add to the immersion. Everywhere will be dark, except for a few twinkling marines :P I don't think people will bother with nightvision if that is implemented.
One thought is missing with the outlines; it doesn't help that much in close combat, which is the main intention behind glowing marines. It actually might confuse you. So I think thy should be completely lit up, not just the outlines.

ok I can see how the above moded sight could be better than the current but until it gets rid of celerity blur I couldn't use it ( I can see this is somthing that they are working on) I mean go look at the pics he linked the pics without any alien sight or mod its almost impossible for aliens to see the marines they are expected to attack :P

Very cool.
But surely you cant just mod the game like this a play online. Is there no anti cheat? to prevent this. This is imo bordering on cheating.
I hope in the final version people cant just mod the game and play online.
But this mod should be in the final game as alien vision.
In a multiplayer game, you cant just allow people to mod their client and gain advantages without banning them. I hope this is something they will add to the final if people can do this now. You wont ever have this be an esport game then. Im assuming your gonna use Steam anti cheat protection, which bans people who change in certain files.
This is exactly why there won't be client-only-mods allowed. There will be a consistency check for the .lua files at the release of the game. So you will only be able to use mods, that are installed on the server too.
I really like the modded alien vision linked in this thread. And I think it should be made official. But I won't install the mod, because it gives me an unfair advantage over the players that doesn't use it. And turn it as you want, getting an unfair advantage is cheating. No matter if there are countermeasures or not. Or if you have to hack the .exe or just script something in lua. Getting an advantage over other players, that is not intended by the devs is unfair and therefore cheating.

I think it could do with some tweeks here and there though, just so its not constanly used. How about the slower energy regen while using it which was in befor? or will it just cause everyone to rage again?

Why is it bordering on cheating? I can't see the reasoning behind that argument.
The line for me, at least in this game, goes for texture, aiming, and to some extent lightning modification. I see no reason what so ever to restrict the game into the likes of BF3 and similar games.
Have you played older multiplayer games btw? If so, have you seen how moddable games used to be just a few years back? As long as every player has the same oportunity to modify the game why does it matter?

I understand the current alien vision doesn't suit everyone's taste, it's a good thing the game is so mod-able! :D
FYI, a wide range of values of penalty on energy regen were tested, and removed after much complaints.

No hivesight in alien vision, also it darkens a lot in the distance at around 30+ meters.
As Onii-chan mentioned, it drops off after a set distance, and you lose Hivesight.

Win-win.
It works perfectly well in L4D1/2.
So I think thy should be completely lit up, not just the outlines.

"Delete or comment out "self:UpdateCelerityEffect()" in line 500 of Alien_Client.lua."
Never looked back.

Granted, I love the current one, but it would be sweet to not hide the pretty texturing.
