Zen of Sudoku on X360 Arcade?

I was looking through the Zen of Sudoku forums and saw someone suggest putting Zen of Sudoku on Xbox Live Arcade. The tiniest and crappiest games on Xbox Arcade are selling for $5 each (400 Microsoft Points). So, Flayra, maybe with the help of XNA or whatever, would it be possible to release it for Xbox Arcade. How cool would that be. I just think this would be another great source for funding the development of NS2.

[EDIT]: You did mention in your blog that soon Zen of Sudoku will be distributed through many big arcade portals. Is Xbox 360 one of them? Please let it be. Please <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

This would be great. The hard part is convincing Microsoft to put your game on Live. They apparently have a waiting list many months long and it's tough to get your content on there.

I'm working with Oberon though who is very close to Microsoft so if it sells well there (through msn.com) then maybe MS would let it onto Live also!

wow, I never knew alot of people wanted their games put on Live. I have a 360 but I really dont download games. If Sudoku gets put up there im sure it will be my first one. And I hope it does happen. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Live Arcade would be a great (and Very profitable) revenue source.

A waiting list of months? Sheesh.

Any word of when the steam version will come out? About Microsoft, how is the whole thing done. Do you just call them saying "Can you put Zen of Sudoku on the Live Arcade?" or is there some other formal way to do it?

Most of the time it's very profitable, but it REALLY depends on the development length and effort put into it.

I've read an interview from a developer for a very successful Arcade game on Live, and he said that the profits aren't as high up in the skies as people would think.

Regarding Zudoku, doing a simple port to Live Arcade could get very profitable indeed.

For titles that really sell well (aka Geometry Wars) they earn roughly 2 million USD.

Most other titles earn between 500k - 1 million... Obviously a lot, but considering the development costs, costs to get debug kits, etc it's not as much as some people think.

I'm also unsure if this figures are what the developers get paid, or if it's what the titles earn on XBL total (and thus MS has to take some profit, as well as the publisher and then the developer).

You would think if a game qualified for Live Microsoft would jump on it. I'm sure they make x% off of any game sold via live, so they would be making money money money.

If Microsoft accepted every proposal for a product on Live, the marketplace would be flooded with mostly poorly made games. All this chaff would make it harder for gamers to find quality things to buy, reducing their overall profit and game sales.

It makes sense to have both a minimum quality level that they require, as well as a max number of new games per time period to avoid flooding the market.

Zen of Sudoku would be one of the very few games I would buy on X-Box live.

I wish Flayra would report back with an update on the progress of this port to XBox Live Arcade. <img src="http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/style_images/trans_system_authority/folder_post_icons/icon9.gif" border="0" alt="IPB Image" />

They should buy ZoS. You just know that if they bought any other Sudoku game for the XBox360, it wouldn't be nearly as nice.

i've been thinking abou this too.
If any puzzle-game deserves to be on Xbox live, it sure is Zen of Sudoku.

In my wildest dreams i even hoped for NS on Xbox live.
There is a game on live arcade called roboblitz that uses the unreal tournament engine.
So why no games on HL or source engine. hehe

And in my wet dreams,.... NS2 in a valve package, like orange box.
    orange box on Xbox 360 is Hl2 + HL2 e1 + HL2:e2 +Team fortress 2 + portal.
So actually, 5 games in 1.

    well, i'll keep dreaming

It doesn't look like this is happening. It's really hard to get games on XBOX Live right now - there is a queue many months long because everyone wants their game up there. Microsoft also doesn't seem interested in putting games like Zen of Sudoku up there either. I'm not sure what the criteria is, but every time I've asked I've just gotten no response.

It's too bad too, it would help us so much!

I don't know if this is possible or allowed, but games programmed in XNA game studio can be played both on PC and Xbox. Maybe you can sell a PC version that can also be played on XNA. People would buy it mainly for PC, with Xbox XNA compatibility as extra option.

XNA is a small community, but when your game is succesfull in XNA it's more likely to get on Xbox arcade.
There are tons of games for XNA but only a few are released on Xbox arcade.
XNA games are free downloads, so even for people who don't develop games it's interesting to get an XNA subscription and play all the games.

A few months ago there was a XNA contest and i think 4 developers won a release on Xbox arcade.

check out these links for more info on XNA games and contest.

    <a href="http://www.dreambuildplay.com/main/default.aspx" target="_blank">XNA contest</a>

If i ever see any news there will be a new contest i will post it!!!

Would it be possible to put it up via community games... bit of a price cut and all(so probably not worth it)... but it might show MS that their system for choosing games to go on live is extreamly flawed, when every UW fan boy downloads a copy on the first day <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/nerd-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::nerdy::" border="0" alt="nerd-fix.gif" />

Eh, who would play it on the x360 arcade though, personally if I played it on PC, I would play it while watching a movie or something, but on the side note of other markets.. There is the phone market of sudoku and man I would love to have it on their, although I already own a sudoku on my phone, it still is a wonderful market.

Blackberry marketplace is one and shouldn't be terribly hard

Sudoku is a stimulating puzzle game, but Charlie's ZoC was developed (in 2006) to allow UWE (Charlie) to use a combination of his programming skills and passion for games as a means of funding NS2 development without sacrificing the ability to make final decisions on game direction to third party investors. The additional avenue of internal revenue provides many benefits to an indie developer. I don't think this game would be very profitable on the Xbox live arcade presently, but if you would like to play ZoS, rather than vanilla Sudoku in flash, you can buy it on Steam here: <a href="http://store.steampowered.com/app/4900/" target="_blank">http://store.steampowered.com/app/4900/</a>
