Dammit im still at least a year away from my NBN fibre to host one :(
Thanks endar, for the servers, the good times, and the om_abuse ;)
Also on the 3fl forums there was a thread about them setting up an NS2 server - <a href="http://www.3fl.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7360" target="_blank">http://www.3fl.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7360</a>
I emailed them letting them know the info they needed, but havn't heard anything back yet :(
Thanks Endar for giving us Aussies a great NS2 experience for so long. I'm gutted to hear about this as playing on those servers was absolutely awesome and the community of players was just fantastic. GGs!
The server list mentions at some point there were GameArena servers(http://www.unknownworlds.com/ns2/wiki/index.php/List_of_Known_Servers#Oceania), why don't we ask them to put those back up. They usually have decent hardware and connection speeds. With any other game I have played, if you show enough interest to your isp particularly internode and iinet they will sponsor a server.
But if someone comes up for a better option I am willing to chip in for a server that can support large games.

Because due to NS2's high server requirements they performed nearly as poorly as Lerkmore.
Hey guys, Sad to see that the best server is going down, but I may have some hope with internode. <a href="http://games.on.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=193734" target="_blank">http://games.on.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=193734</a>

For what it's worth I'm happy to contribute if we find a solution.
I've put my 2cents worth on the 3fl and Internode forums. We're only going to be heard if we're the loudest voice, so if you have the time please make your voice heard!
Strayan there's a carton in it for you if you can convince the NS2 team to optimise the dedicated servers, just bump it up one or two (thousand) places on the priority list. I suggest wearing an attractive looking gorge outfit to work to catch their attention (just kidding).

The crazy server requirements are stifling the NS2 community, I believe it should be a much higher priority.
We often lack enough servers at prime time for certain areas, especially EU but now AUS too. New players (especially around new patch time) join servers that should never have be running and give a terrible gameplay experience, which destroys their initial experience of NS2.
3FL are looking at getting some NS2 servers up. There is currently a thread in the 3FL forums - <a href="http://www.3fl.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7360" target="_blank">http://www.3fl.net.au/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7360</a>
The more demand there is for NS2 servers then hopefully the faster they go up.
Also, thanks for hours of fun I've had on your servers endar! :)

I doubt they will be running an i7 at 4.5ghz to have a decent server.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

^ This if they don't know we need something rather beefy we'll end up for a standard server which wont really help us. Then we'll end up with a server no one wants to use which would probably make them somewhat jaded after going to the effort to help us. I think the only way we'll end up with a server fast enough is to get the hardware ourselves and get them to run it.
Endar's OP said if someone can host Power, Internet with 5Mb+ Upload and are in a cool room, he would look at supplying the hardware. Maybe get them in touch if the servers not powerful enough and see what happens.

I like the cut or Endars jib, what a great guy. Excited to see some good options being checked into, I've played tf2 on.games.net servers for ages so I am hopeful they will be able to supply what we need.

What the hell are they going to do when this goes live and none of the game server hosts have the hardware to handle NS2 in the mass market..
The server is running at minimum 3x to slow...
Im so gutted

Thank you endar for running awesome servers.
But if someone comes up for a better option I am willing to chip in for a server that can support large games.

Big thanks to all those involved as well.

Sorry about that, I didn't realise he only just posted that after I deleted my post.

his lastest post
"As I've said before, I can't disclose our hardware specs.
What I can do is suggest is that some games we already host have requirements far beyond what you have seen before, NS2 included :).
It's not a problem :icon14:"
so that sounds very promising

They are probably talking about their arma2 servers, that game requires some serious server grunt.
