<div class="IPBDescription">masks for textures?</div>Ok, i write down the text and my pc crashs...yay love my old HDD.
Anyway the idea behind this is, give the aliens diffrent masks for their models.
For example, if a skulk uses the frenzy upgrade, his textur get a new layer/mask like this:
Default Skin:
<img src="http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/6837/60609624.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Fenzy upgrade:
<img src="http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/651/55448326.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Fenzy mask:
<img src="http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/6827/maskfenz.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Fenzy + Swarm:
<img src="http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/765/65320932.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
Only swarm(examples!):
<img src="http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/49/fryswar.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" />
So each upgrade gives a new mask.

I like this idea. Not only does it help team play (its good to know what upgrades your swarm partner has). It also adds immersion.
The Damage and Armor Upgrades of marines should be visible as well. (Other color of flying bullets for damage and other texture for armor?)
It can be very frustrating for a noob to get shot / chewed because the killer had simply better upgrades. If you are new to the game, you just wonder, why you die in a few shots but when you play marine, you seem to need a full mag to kill a skulk.
It should just be more obvious what upgrades your enemy got. And besides this, it should also be more obvious, what level of upgrade (for example) carapace I have at the moment.
But back to topic. Nice work op. +1 would love to see more distinct skulks based on their upgrades.
Don't forget im just a "newbie" with lousy paintskills, so the "real" skins (if some would come) could look much better.
And like Necro said, it would help teamplayers because for example "swarm" is a teambased skill:
<i><b>Swarm: Deals +25% increased damage on a target that a teammate recently hit (within 3 seconds). </b></i>
That's a really good idea!
A template for the designs, though, should come from the existing map textures. Having said that, I think it would take alot of support to get the information on what textures to add to which upgrade.
Does this mean that camouflage would have an irridescence skin txt.?

Why?
Upgrades are fast and cheap so people generally never go without them. That means you would only see rave skulks hopping around.
Do it!
Don't judge from your self. I don't waste res for my kamikaze-skulk.
And in the first 5 minutes not every alien com researches upgrades.
Heck, your idea here could be made so its only visible to the alien team.
It could be coded so that the masks only apply when the player has alienvision on. Could also give it a little UW-glow effect (rave UNTZ UNTZ UNTZ).
And OP said that he's terrible at texturing, ofc the final product could be tons better :)
