This post makes absolutely no sense. How did you get such a great sense of entitlement from pre-ordering a game that's in beta? They have chosen to share information with us when they really don't have to say anything at all. Just because you don't think it's enough information, doesn't mean they should change their processes or approach. I'd personally rather have them working on the game than spoon feeding you updates on an hourly basis. Also mocking my userID isn't really a great way to have me respect your point of view or opinions.

Yes, I'm quite aware that you do not understand. With your own admission, you're now aware of it as well.
The base concept for my suggestion, is that any additional information will be well received, especially routine daily updates. This is not a foregone conclusion, so I am quite surprised anyone would consider the idea anything but a benefit over the current situation. But Bacillus, this isn't the first time things I've said seemed baffling to you, so again, thank you for your constant interest and support in my comments!

Your initial response wasn't exactly smiles and sunshine, I think I took a good approach to it. Sorry at how much it's upset you, but I was just matching your tone, but being a bit more polite.
I've taken no sense of entitlement in anything I've said. There is an issue with the community being upset at the lack of information regarding the game process, this is a fact. I've made a suggestion to remedy, or at least, reduce the severity of the issue. My idea will work, at least some small form. Again, this is basically true, so any response saying otherwise is just silly. You made a silly response. Alternatively, you could have suggested another solution to the problem, but you didn't. Also, if someone is going to say something is wrong, they should explain why, generally in an inarguable way, but you didn't. Now you want to start a flame war with me. I will not waste my time in this fashion, as in the past usually one party is unable to comprehend the other, and it becomes a pride issue that goes nowhere.

There is no problem to solve other than your impatience. That could potentially be solved by going outside or reading a book.
Nice I hope we see those engine improvments coming together faster nice to hear that Max will get some help on those tasks, so when does he start working?

Seems like this version is being tested more thoroughly, maybe it'll be a break from the 'patch fixes gamebreaking issue with previous patch but introduces new one' trend. I do hope so, it'd be nice to play a decent game of NS2 again.

Yes, I think they more than doubled the number of active playtesters in the last month, so it has definitely been tested quite a bit. It really helps when entire teams like Inversion and #156 are playtesters as we test the builds ourselves at night trying to find obscure bugs and painstakingly determine how to reproduce certain bugs. There are still some minor bugs with 186, but it should be pretty stable and enjoyable. Hope everyone likes it. I think you might find a couple of surprise features that were never mentioned on the progress pages. :)

Please don't make whips knock grenades back. I already loath static defence and this would just make a couple of whips with some hydras even harder for marines to take down.
Problem though is... if we place the whip in open range, it'l block grenades better. But easily will be shot down.
Most people now will hide it behind a hive, or around a corner. Where it will be protected from being taken down... considering it holds the most amount of alien upgrades in the game at the minute.
Uhhh...?
Why not consider two things... whips could block grenades and marines within range, or maybe just block marines?
We really need to find a synergistic combination of abilities for the structure. That way the whip can be used as an area denial structure? Rather than simply dealing a bit of dmg, when in range, it could deal dmg and act as a block to hinder marine movement.
It holds upgrades, we got that. But if the whip could act as an area denial tool (as in able to push marines back, prevent them from getting close to it.) then it would make sense for alien commanders to place the whip next to a hive, so it could protect other structures(hive, crag, shade). Since the whip is mobile, it would bring advantages to a commander who could place them well, and move them around to prevent it from being taken down later. You rarely see anyone moving whips around now.
The whip is already an area denial tool. No one walks within it's radius, they shoot it from afar. Perhaps it needs a little more health, but I've always thought the whip is fine for what it is.

QUOTE

Matso just coded up a cool NS2 mod where Whips hit grenades back towards the marine! http://youtu.be/hgHynP6axsA (should we add this?) #fb

I think it makes the whip more usefull to build. Right now Hydras are much more useful than whips atm. In any game I may see 1 whip the entire game. It would bring more of a cohesiveness with commander and gorge. Build a forward base, gorge sets up hydra, and comm drops a whip, instead of just grenade spamming it down with no possible defense, there is atleast something.
To make this balanced the whip should only be able to hit back one grenade per launcher. so if its one launcher vs one whip, the grenades will not damage anything, and they must shoot the whip down.
2 launchers and 1 whip, it will only whip back grenades from one (this can be caluclated that its "ready" or animation time is the same as the time it takes for a grenade to launch , and then another one to fire again. For example if it takes 3 seconds on average for a launcher to shoot, reload and shoot again, a whip should only be able to whip back grenades every 3 seconds.)
You will also need to work on what kind of range it has, if its range is as wide as it is tall, that can be a good and a bad thing (also will have to edit animations).
Overall I think this adds quite a nice layer of play to the alien side, as long as it does not completely nullify nade launchers. There should be a pay off, one launcher 1 whip, great, but if marines REALLY want to get in there, the alien com will really have to dedicated precious resources to defending an area by building 3-4 whips.

Good! Really liked those, was wondering why there wasnt more. I really liked the prototyping of the alien vision.
the grenade bouncing is the great think ... we discuss it earlier and it looks like great idea.
question is whtat have priprity, to hit near by marine or bouncing the grenades? because if hiting marine is prioritized, then one suicidal marine can jump into bunch of whins while other one or more can fire grenades without bouncing back. I'll prefer prioritized grenade bouncing, because it will not allow marines to finish then as was described.
Whip as a counter to GL sounds like an inspired gameplay feature. I'd recommend having a cool-down on the whip so it can still be overwhelmed by multiple GLs, as well as making the angle and distance of the redirect have some variability. I really like the idea of the khamm using the whip as a waypoint marker to the gorges on the field saying 'this is where you should be focusing your building and activities.'

Welcome aboard Mister/Misses X! Glad to see more manpower at UWE!
You're a very pretty lady!
but will he be the X factor?
If Max says do THIS he/she'll do it ...
so Max can do this, that, and the other thing :-)
- "make code bug-free!"
- "make engine do 100FPS on my machine :D
and so ... and everybody will be happy and will pay him fortune.
Not a burrito? :o
