Liking the redesign its definitely an improvement and taking up less screen space is definitely a plus.
I have a few suggestions though that I personally thing might improve it a little.
1# Move slits on the heat shield (the grey bit that did have lots of holes in it in the previous version) as it would get hot pretty quick. 2# The cocking handle is tiny (assuming that what it is) which would make it would be difficult to use. 3# The ris rail looking thing is a little out of place and looks to be there for the sake of filling a gab. 4# The fore-grip looks a little to far back to be practical. 5# The pistol grip looks uncomfortable and kinda odd. 6# the trigger is at an odd angle and pretty huge. 6# It looks a little to clean and new for my liking.
Obviously its "SCI-FI" so I'm nitpicking on certain things but for me making it more ergonomically realistic adds a bit of believability to it.
I fiddled with the design on the main page to better explain the points above (sorry for butchering it and just generally messing about with some of its aesthetics).
Actually i dont really care that much how the gun looks(even tho it looks good) - a much bigger problem i have is, that the position in the firstperson view is strange.
Why cant we(and with we i mean uwe) shift the weapon more to the center? more like this and not that So it feels more like we are "shooting" with the gun, and not watching it from the top-leftside?
The position of the gun in my example picture - not only gives even more view, it also assists at aiming - and is not a more or less useless model placed in your screen that pi*thumb centerpoints at the crosshair. => it doesnt have to be exactly like that, but a bit more in that direction would be good, currently something feels a little bit wrong. (and not only for the lmg)
PS: Drake1s changes look awesome, the only problem - the gl attachment point is gone in your version...
I do very much agree with Koruyo, I have always favored more centered view models, they just feel more like holding a gun, and that corner is nice to be able to see.
I like the center point perspective as well although it really only features in games that allow you to shoulder the weapon to look down the iron sights so it might look a little off seeing as though you cant do it in NS2.
Cheers Koruyo, GL attachment ? I made the fore-grip pump action in the above pic as I assumed at the time that the second barrel under the main one was the launcher although it'll probably turn out to be the flashlight for all I know.
konata theres no harm in making the weapons believable if anything it adds polish to the game, just look at the likes of the halo games and killzone series their weapons are pretty awesome looking because they look like they'd actually function in the real world.

+1 for center tweak on the rifle, just a tad.

Biggest advantage is the marine field of view.

THIS...
We're going to shift the gun a bit further over to the center and see how that works.

Also I like Drake1 edition very much.
