I like how the video is basically a glorified version of capture the flag.

BTW, Nuclear Dawn is NS2 competition only because there are just a handful of FPS/RTS hybrids out there.

Doesn't really look like great fun. The game disqualifies through many points for me.

Wait... does the "Pre-order now" button on their page look the same as the one on unknownworlds.com/ns2?

what? "Dawn is hard, fast and unforgiving, with weapons that rely on skill and tactics more than on twitch reflexes and map memorization." But in my book reflexes and map knowledge is skill and feeds into tactics o.0. You cant have tactics without map knowledge..

Meh, no RTS video.

My problem with all those (COD/BF2/etc) style games is that the FPS feel still isn't counter-strike.. makes me teary eyed just thinking about it... FPS has never really been the same after CS.

Look UWE - even they got it right and bullet shells come out at the right side of the weapon model :P (not in your face, like with our lmg)

And while we are at it, the axe animation needs some love too - very unnatural...

Presumably, the main distinguishing features of Nuclear Dawn are 1) it has a RTS component and 2) vehicles. However, it looks like they've dropped the vehicles portion (at least for the release) and I'm not sure what the RTS component entails anymore.

I'm pretty sure they already know about us. One of their earlier videos had the tagline in it: " In the future, survival of the fittest...is not just a theory". Seems like a nod at Natural Selection.
Anyway, best of luck to them. Looks like the game could be fun.

I agree with glorified CTF. No commander from what i see so i wouldn't really call it fps/rts, more like CTF baited with resources to make it more appealing.

If both companies are based in the US, then yes you can sue them.. otherwise no, US has a extremely stupid suing system(mcdonalds hot coffee anyone?). But since you guys don't care I will try to keep it civil :P.

So, being in the Source modding community for ages (easily dating back to when ND had their photoshop scandal), I like to support mods and indie devs. Today I was looking at steam page contemplating putting down the money for the preorder when I read that, and WOW. What a garbage thing to say. I wonder if the person who wrote that even knows how derogatory and insulting it is? I mean not just NS, but how about Savage? Battlezone? This genre dates way back and to make a claim as if they are somehow reinventing it (without even showing ANY commander footage!) is insane.

TLDR: Respect your ###### elders. I'll save my $20 in case I need to buy a friend a copy of NS2.

Also funny to see a thread pop up here in General. First thing I did was check the Off-topic forum to see if someone else had already ranted about it, lol.

Kind of looks interesting. I might check it out. But it lacks the total asymmetric teams that makes NS unique.

AFAIK, it does contain a comm-mode (making it a FPS/RTS), but that teaser video is not exactly appealing.

Aye the video I watched it looks like a standard FPS game still with a com thrown in(resources are just points you capture like in every other fps game, unlike NS's having to physically build it).

Don't forget the Modern Warfare fighting and the fact that all you do RTS wise is stand around hoping not to get shot.

Coming from a professional UI Designer/Developer, using the same fonts, in the same structure with the same content and trying to sell the same product to the same audience, can easily lead to copyright infringement. If I was the designer behind UWE's official Natural Selection 2 website and I did not also design the interface for the Nuclear Dawn website, I would strongly consider reaching out to there designer and requesting a re-design of that button to prevent confusion.

What this creates is an environment where the user will think UWE "copied" the Nuclear Dawn interface choices if they view the Nuclear Dawn website prior to viewing the Natural Selection 2 official website. Even though it's clear that UWE introduced this simple marketing design prior to Interwaves implementation, it can & will create confusion seeing as they are targeting the same audience(putting them in the bracket of "competition").

I recently went through a legal battle between my company very similar to this with a competitor in another state. Theoretically, it was not the competitors actual fault as they hired the exact same contracting company we also outsourced too. In the end, both the contracting company and our competitor were forced to remove and compensate us for Marketing related damages.

Another great example is the legal battle between Apple and Samsung where Apple claimed the Samsung Galaxy tab was "too similar in design" to their iPad. The legal battle is continuing in all other major retailer locations but, Samsung is no longer permitted with the distribution of the Samsung Galaxy in Australia. Apple wins!

Learn the legal "ins-and-outs" of design before you comment on it. Sorry for writing a book on this, but I just want to clarify how important it is to never use the same design elements as another competitor when targeting the same audience (financially) that can later hurt your chances of producing income. This is a clear reason why the only time people sue Apple is due to them creating unfair competition.
:) <3

P.S. - Also their choice of words "Nuclear Dawn is the first game to offer a full FPS and RTS experience without crippling or diluting either side of the game." can create a legal battle alone. That's like Samsung saying "Our tablet is the first to include a camera worth using or a screen worth touching without a learning curve". False advertising much?
• playerplayer Join Date: 2010-09-12 Member: 73982Members
You're being a pillock over a pre-order button, that is all.

I for one will keep an eye on this game, if it manages to be the new empires (though without vehicles that might be tricky) it might be worth a try. Oh and that is it's direct competitor by the way, not NS2 as it's vastly different in gameplay and style.
