NS1 or NS2.
What do you think is currenlty the better game at the moment?

A) NS
B) NS2

I am not sure at all, both of them seem to be very good games. It is a hard choice, but it NS didn't have a decreasing amount of players I would go for that.

NS2 is my choice.

Hrmm, not really a fair comparison... NS1 has the advantage of years of polish. The core mechanics are focused and cohesive, gameplay is smooth, player feedback (responsiveness to input, hit reg, etc) are extremely tight... But NS2 has a mountain of potential because nothing is set in stone yet.

I enjoy playing NS2 more at this stage, because the novelty has worn off NS1 for me and because I'm enjoying being a part of something that is evolving and growing. That doesn't mean NS2 is any better or worse though.

That's like comparing a completed building to a non-completed one. It's easy to see the problems with the finished building, but it's still finished. The new building has more promise, and looks nicer, but it's not somewhere you'd like to live in yet, maybe just visit at the weekends.

I think I've tortured that metaphor enough now

I made a city metaphor in my most recent rant. I thought it was quite profound.

    NS1 by state
    NS1 by movement
    NS1 by gameplay
    NS1 by netcode
NS1 by everything bar the one below.
    NS2 by lighting effect.

Thaldarin's a troll, but I agree with him.

"netcode" is incorrect, though. Server CPU-usage would be more accurate.

Also, higher poly models and higher resolution textures.

When there is an NS2, NS1 will be better. Or was it NS2....dyslexia you damn!

    Currently? Obviously NS1.
But NS2 isn't even finished, so comparing the quality is stupid.

I vote we fire Charlie and put Thaldarin in charge of UWE instead. He can open up the NS1 & NS2 repositories and show us how a real developer works (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C, Alt+Tab, Ctrl+A, Shift-Del, Ctrl+V).

That's a bad idea. I'd "sell out" to a publisher. Well, definition of bad idea or good idea is relative to what you believe in I guess.

Whenever I see this thread title I instead think of "What is best in life?".

    To crush the hives.
    Drive the skulks before you.
And hear the lamentation of the gorges.

NS1 is full of obsessive twerps who have one of the most xenophobic communities I've ever seen in a game. NS2 crashes and lags a lot.

Difficult to decide really, although crashing and lag are technical problems which may potentially be fixed, so NS2 may potentially be quite good.

This topic is not very constructive (mod made better by years or developement and feedback vs. game in developement with new indie engine and network problems) and it can only turn into a flamewar.

I think it's an easy way to blow steam and compare the development cycles of both considering we were promised a game 2 years ago, which we did not get.

Actually it began on the forums, I decided to take it private (being the considerate person that I am), but then I figured you need a bit of public encouragement so we returned to the forums.

Personally, I thought it was pretty funny when KuBaN called you the "get your damn kids off my lawn" guy. I thought it might have been an extension to my own "bitter old man" observation, but I won't take credit for his fine work.

Besides, I didn't insult you. "Troll" is hardly an insult. That's like saying "Gadaffi is a dictator" is insulting Gadaffi. It's not my fault if Gadaffi takes offense.

For me it's NS2 because I like to be part of a creative community and even influence the game a little bit by reporting bugs and posting ideas.
Also I like the pioneering spirit of the community and the players ingame.

Seriously, get over the fact that the game did not come out 2 years ago. Besides, I think it will be for the best as they managed to create a new engine which allows them to do more things and have a more Dynamic game.

NS1 because it was on the half life one engine

Even if the sequel is completed I don't see it being as fun as the first. It seems like it was designed for new players and while there are plenty of new features, that doesn't really necessarily make it a better game.
