It's a shame but I'm sure Unknown Worlds would never release another Alpha to the public again after seeing all the whining and cry-babying happening on the forums, nor would any other developer who has visited this forum and seen all the unnecessary backlash. Personally I've enjoyed seeing the progress from build to build, as I'm sure many others have - even though they might not have been quite as vocal as the people who are incessantly complaining. I'm sure everyone, including the devs, would love to see regular updates with huge strides being taken but with a development crew of only 5 full-time employees sometimes there are going to be bumps in the road. I'm not saying everyone should be hanging on UW's n####k either but some of you guys really need to take a step back and look at how ridiculous you're acting - some of the posts on the forums are downright conspiracy theory hogwash, as if the devs are going to run off with our money and retire in the Caribbean.

Sad thing is...
I just bought CoD:Black Ops, and the game feels very much on par with the performance of NS2. Lots of jitter, laggy input...
Tried defragging, and I'm hoping that restarting my computer will help... but yeah. Soon NS2 might actually be out-performing a multi-million dollar game.

Really? I heard a heap of people saying how badly it ran but it seems to play just as well as MW2 did for me :S (Q6600 and HD5850, seemed to be steady at 50-90fps).

And I don't get the "fanboy" thing. I'm not really seeing any nose-to-anus action going on, just people trying to inform. Which is fair when people are invoking anger over things that are obvious (e.g. an alpha running badly, delays, bugs, etc etc) or people pointing fingers at things that have been explained prior in other threads.

Yeah I dunno. I just played through MW2, smooth as silk. I think my HDD might just be acting up. I also saw some postings suggesting changing BlackOps to be restricted to just one core to fix stutter (haven't tried it yet).

I've got a HD4870 and a Athlon 64x2 3.2Ghz... probably getting close to time to upgrade, but it's not so weak I'd expect to really see any issues in these games when I turn down the AA and such.

Not really a shame, most don't, they usually have a closed alpha or beta test from a select pool for this very reason.
I'm sure UW knew there would be a large amout of people who don't fully understand the concept of an Alpha and would create alot of noise on the forums.

i think Black ops is having severe issues with dualcore CPUs. The people i know on Quad-core are having no issues.

An alpha is by definition an unfinished product. When people complain about an alpha being unfinished they are either trolls or idiots.

I was a member of these forums long before 98% of people here had ever even heard of the game. It's on the left people, take a look. Member number 490-something.

If anything, I should by rights be the most hardcore fan here. But I don't have my head up my ass about how miserable this development process is going. When you build a house, you lay a solid foundation before you install windows and doorknobs. This isn't a foundation, it might as well be Jenga.

I don't buy all of this "finding and organizing testers is such hard work" garbage either. Really? A game with such a tight-knit community following as NS2, and you can't find a few dozen dedicated people to test internally? Give me a break. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

Please feel sorry for us, everyone. We're trying our best. Sorry we took your money and gave you something that's been unplayable for the better part of three months. Sorry! Development is hard! Sympathize with us, please.

I couldn't agree more. Nice post.

My frustration, besides the fps issue - which thankfully is being worked on now :D~ - is this:
http://getsatisfaction.com/unknownworlds/t...ts_to_disappear

Opening the buy menu for Kharaa (Aliens) causes the UI elements in "play" to disappear

Maybe when they announced "tomorrow" that they meant 2+ days after that twitter announcement i.e. Friday, Saturday... Monday etc. :P

i think we can safely say valve time and UWE time are two different times. both different from reality.

At least UWETime® is only a few days past when they say. ValveTime® is completely random.

going to sound like a dumb question, but how is that new patch downloaded through steam? I have the game set to update when updates are available, but i dont see anywhere that shows the build i am playing.

Is the version number really listed in the console, I usually just see the spam of warnings when i open the console.
