Contact the support, keep the whining and insults to yourself. You may imagine no one's really interested in hearing the latter.

NS2 will use Steamworks. That's not subject to change. It may not be convenient for you, but it shaves off hundreds of man-hours off devs' schedule, to a much better result.

    <!--quoteo(post=1756762:date=Mar 3 2010, 06:30 PM:name=ctd)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ctd @ Mar 3 2010, 06:30 PM) <a href="index.php?act=findpost&pid=1756762"><{POST_SNAPBACK}></a></div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->Sites like Play, CDWOW, etc use loopholes to import games cheap from Asian regions.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
That's very true. Plus, there's used games market, and so on. I imagine the main factor to keeping high prices despite digital medium is because otherwise physical retailers would refuse to stock the game due to fears of being outcompeted... Or maybe it's just that publishers *can* control the pricing that way, whereas at retail or used market they have no say in it.

Say, indie titles routinely go down in price on Steam, whereas big ones will remain at launch-price pretty much forever.

Sounds good to me, I'm all on board for steam distribution in fact I wouldn't have it any other way. :P

My guess is that it will be available rapidly in a little while, in due time.

NS2 will <b></b>REQUIRE STEAM<b></b> no matter what. Not because it's distro'd there, but because it uses Steamworks for server browsing, etc. Which forces you to use Steam to play the game. The devs have stated they will NOT be making their own version at release, and doubtful beyond because Steamworks is flat out great.

I hope that clears things up.

Yay! Steam! Honestly, for a casual gamer like myself Steam makes everything easier. Even impulse purchases :D

    Congrats, UW!

Or someone with a key generator already registered your key.
That's what happened to me with my 1998 HL copy.
And back in 2003(?) Steam didn't care at all when I send pics and stuff, so I can see where korvo is coming from.

Anyway I don't like the DRM-fest that is Steam, but it's probably the best way for UWE to reach a large group of players.

...Are we talking about the same Steam?

Steam doesn't have any DRM aside from itself, unless the games themselves require additional DRM (which seems to be the case with many recent popular titles). For games that don't require additional DRM, you just need Steam running in the background, which seems quite fair to me.

So i pre-ordered when the bundle pack was on, so this will mean i will get the steam code sent to me by email, or will i get it by post?

Sorry, it's just i am worried that i wont be able to get it if it's by email due to it being sent to my mothers account :)

If you already pre-ordered, you should have already recieved your key via your primarily e-mail you used to purchase the bundle pack. To get your key, e-mail store@unknownworlds.com with your purchase information.

You can allways re-request your code and ask your mom to forward it to your's.
BTW, to unlock NS2 on Steam, go to GAMES > Activate Product on Steam > Enter your CD Key. Theyre obviously not yet active, tho.

That's the best action shot I knew, you typically dont put lush landscapes on a shooter's box.

It's obviously trolling by UWE to all those whiners who didn't want their Tazer idea ... so suck it :P
I like the pistol would've maybe enjoyed the Tazer better, but we don't need to start that discussion again !

Korvo stop trolling please or at least stop thinking in stereotypes that much (UWE is now the evil guys, because everyone who lives in America turns evil and Steam is evil also and Micheal Moore is always correct and doesn't manipulate his work ... :P yeah you wish !) I'm just annoyed with those people who think every American is evil for no reason and then just are happy with someone who wins a nobel peace prize for literally <b>doing</b> nothing (maybe trying to do, but not succeeding <b>yet</b> is counting now) but thats another thing ...

    /trolling off

Congratulations to the Steam thing !

It would be nice if an announcement on the main page was given on how to transfer preorders to Steam when it becomes possible.

It's also a form of DRM that gamers (usually) don't mind, because it also provides benefits (friends list, easy server browsing, games directory) and is non-intrusive. From UWE's perspective there is also another huge advantage in Steamworks, and that is drastically reduced piracy. Most of the other types of DRM out there get cracked within days of a game's release, but if you incorporate Steamworks, you need a legit copy of the game to play with just about anyone. NS2 being multiplayer only reduces the appeal to pirates even more; they can't even pirate the game and just play single player.

Just means even more revenue for UWE, which is always good news.

The functionality to do this will most likely be the system Steam already has in place. You simply click Add a game, Activate a product on Steam, and enter your CD key. The game is then added to your Steam library and you can begin downloading/playing it immediately.
