First time poster here, even though I joined a long time ago. I have to say, NS1 is one my most favourite games. Started playing when I was, what? 14?(2004) Then forgot my steam password @ age of 16. And now, a year back, I started playing again. And I have to say, totally worth it no matter what. I bought SE because I felt guilty of playing NS1 for free for so long (still am playing it now <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />). But I do wonder like so many others, since I almost always play aliens, will we SE buyers get a special alien skin/eyes/sounds etc? That would be some awesome.

    Thanks in advance for this outrageous and most righteous awesomeness. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

Amazing thing is, the amount of testers now it seems, is going to really speed up the finalization process.

    Can't bloody wait.

You'd think that. But even with alot of testers, there are only 4 men who can fix the bugs.

Haha, I tend to agree. And with more people/testers, there's bound to be a larger divide in opinions that have to be considered.

I am sure that they will still have a separate group of play testers. The preorder only promises access to alpha and beta builds. It says nothing about actually being beta testers, there is a difference.

Well, no. It still takes a lot of time to fix the issues.
But perhaps we'll be able to find all the important ones in time.

    Preordered the S.E.
Great teaser. Keep up the good work guys!
    You deserve the money.
Hopefully you will be able to link the preorders to steam in the future if we wish. That would be grand.

Great job with the Teaser. I know you did it well because I almost ###### myself when I saw it. I'm so excited, I've been waiting for this forever, I didn't think it would be coming this soon.. I'll definitely be pre-ordering the special edition later this week. You guys deserve my money.

Thank you for the teaser video, I was seeing what I had only imagined before (if any recall the discussions about the counter(s) to a welded door). Also, love the evolution of the Onos' look, it had me thinking of Samurai armor, a tank, and a ice hockey goalie - AWESOME. I find myself wondering if Mojokdirector helped out with this video at all...

I eagerly await some game play footage, especially regarding differences in the play styles so as to be very inclusive of many player types having a fun time together. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

I must apologize, I really do want to pre-order (and special edition at that) but unfortunately I find myself without a gaming computer (last one gave up the ghost in the machine and family budget demands other priorities come first), even one with the more than reasonable specs you have listed. Still, even if I had a gaming computer I would wait to pre-order through Steam which I hope is understandable.

Best of luck with the time you have remaining till your release. <3

    Preordered the the big pack ofcouse <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

just a sugestion, now that the dollars is so rediculessly low.

Make a european promotional site, and youll be able to get 2x the amount for every game sold, 20$ is like 300 Danish Kroner, and a new game usualy sells for 5-600 DKKR! And from what i experienced, other european prices are close to that aswell...

On a side note, ill encurange all who reads this to help spread the word, helping makeing it a commercial succes. On forums, in a casual conversation, facebook or myspace, whereever you spend your time in front of your computer. Remember theres no shame in yelling in the streets aswell <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />
Lets all contribute to make NS and the team behind it a alltime favorite along side the half-life, Quake and Unreal series!...

    And a quick question.

Constilation members, any chance of keeping the icons on the scoreboard for us oldtimers. Or what is the plan whit the few of us who believed in you and have played NS since early Beta?

Preordered the big pack ;D god, i´m waiting for this game about 3 years.
I´m playing NS 1 for 7 years now, and its never boring.

    Is there a European, like german site in work? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Any chance of getting some stats on the preorder numbers, or current overall status?

The official news post blackout since the teaser site has been too quiet. I know we've gleaned from the twitter posts and some forum activity, but it might be a good time to put some stuff out on the main page again!

I just need more to feed on!

Unfortunately, much like Valve, UWE is a private company that does not need to release sales statistics. If I had to guess I think the pre orders would be in the 5 figure range, though I have no proof.

Yup, he came up with the idea for the opening UW logo scene and created it, and he put together the final NS2 logo scene, on direction from us. He also edited together the recorded out game footage with the logo scenes, and added the fade outs and the quotes. He helped us out a ton, and we are super grateful to him. So, round of applause for Mojodirector.

Which brings me to a question I haven't seen asked. Is that in game dynamic infestation at the end? How it is intended to look and spread?

Especially the slight transparency at the very end as it covers the camera. Should the DI cover a glass window or porthole in a door, will it allow some light through and looks more organic, or simply block out everything.

Aside: I was checking out Dead Space the other day, and a lot of the atmosphere of that game's levels screamed NS.

Apparently that trailer is like crack for most of us. Everyone i used to play NS with is pre-ordering and they all seem to be going with the special edition.

That said I haven't asked Zazi if he is gonna do it.

Hey, been sick and couldnt comment before.

Originally I was abit disappointed. One because I thought the webside would have more information. My fault, alrite. Second, because I think the onos looks wrong. The khaara were supposed to be a bacteria-based race, I thought that was the whole theme around them. Now there's a paradigm change because the onos feature a bony exterior and "cool" horns to impress the easily impressionable crowd.

Just wanted to voice my support and mention that I bought the Special Edition. Great work guys! In my opinion, the old school definitely approves! I don't get to game quite as often anymore, but I know NS2 will be my new mainstay.

And without rehashing all the art criticism, I want to say that when we're dealing with subjects such as aliens (where art design may be fairly arbitrary due to the imaginary nature) there's going to be differing views. Everything is going to be completely subjective. So for the sake of civility we should probably remove ourselves from any perceived position of artistic authority and realize that we're operating within a realm of the abstract.

    In short: Hell yes.

I ordered the SE as well on the first day. Can't wait to get my hands on the game, it's looking so damn awesome!
Good job on the video editing as well indeed, really gives it the feel it should have. ONOOOOS!

The khaara creatures themselves did not start from bacteria. The backstory is that various alien creatures were "infected" by this alien infestation, which evolves and mutates the creatures into what is referred to as the Khaara. It evolved them to be better fighters, builders, and lovers (you should see the amount of women the gorge gets). So, spike claws to walk on walls, or slash through armor, or spikes that can shoot from tubes on the side of the head.

Evolving armor is a natural step in the mutation, especially after years of encounters with the marines. This starts as small bone bits that break through the surface of the skin and form into little bone clusters. In specific areas of vulnerability these continue to spread and grow and build up to form into larger bone plates that serve as armor.

And let's not forget, the original Onos wasn't exactly without giant horns or a big beefy armored skull plate:
