I though it was simply amazing. My favorite part was the attention to detail when the Onos is behind the door to actually have the fins on the left and right of the wall shake. You never see that in game.

Very nice teaser. At first, with NS1 in mind, I thought it was a bit to colorful and I also felt that the proportions were somewhat cartoony. But thinking of it, bits of NS1 is in that direction, especially the heavy armor. This is what makes it different from what other people are comparing it too, Doom 3 and Aliens. The use of lighting took me back to the first time I played Unreal. Very nice. Personally I would like to see some more randomness with the use of grit and dirt though.

I really like the Onos. The legs reminds me of someone in a muscle suit, a contemporary Japanese robot(I never thought I would get to use that) or that rock guy in the fantastic four. I know it's a weird comparison but they look heavy except also light. It also have more of a face now. Good!

Dig the Skulk(s)! They look to move more like what you would expect from a four legged animal, meaning more upper body movement.

The vents moving is scripted right? As they don't seem to move when the Onos hits the floor.

I don't really get the logo. I really like the "2" bit, it's a no brainer, but the text is stuck in between two worlds. Either you go very simple, meaning one colour, and let the "2" stand out more or you go with a heavy text with textures and all. Maybe even let it get crushed in the middle or taken over with infestation. I don't know, you can do a better job. I have a feeling this might not be the final logo though. Made me think of the Anarchy Online or Starsiege Tribes logo, a metal gradient isn't putting enough into it, hehe.

The big veins also have a very comic feel to them. They look better when they blend with the rest though.

And I also think the "Commander, I'm standing by." is a tad to slow. Maybe I'm just used to the old one and this might not even be the final one. I think it's important that these messages are snappy now that you got even more players over the com.

Enough from me. Thanks again for doing such a wonderful job. Will get the special edition! $40 is a steal. You could charge $80 for the special edition and I would still buy it. Isn't that what special edition games cost today? Well in a European store at least.

Excuse me while I spam the letter "O" a few times.

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I've been following the NS2 production right from the start. I've been an NSer for 5 years, and I can go to say that Unknown Worlds Entertainment has never dissapointed me. I couldn't help but watch the teaser continuously over and over for the entire afternoon and evening of yesterday, and now I'm watching the HD video over and over.

Kudos to the person who pointed out the skulk in the vent on the left. I did notice the one behind the Onos though at around 40 seconds <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

    Love the F4 Door! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

It really goes to show that with the ammount of hard effort you put forth and work as a team, you can really make a difference, whether you're a marine, an alien, or Charlie, Max, Cory, and Matt and the rest of the UWE gang!

You guys have done an amazing job. I bought the Special Edition the second I saw the site go up, waited for the trailer to be released and was not dissapointed one bit.

You guys deserve every bit of credit for the hard work and effort you are putting forth now, and for the amazingness of what Natural Selection is today. I couldn't be playing a better game. I've relied on this game to keep myself from wiping myself off the face of the planet. It truly is a game that keeps me happy and one that I will never forget.

I would say thank you to you guys however many times you guys need to hear it because you deserve it.

Thank you everyone who has been a part of Natural Selection, and Natural Selection 2. Keep aiming for your goals, and you will find success.

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Your number one Natural Selection Fan,

    Steve (Crispix).

First just wanted to say great teaser, it has definitely sparked more interest in the game for me so congrats. I think what I was most impressed with was the lighting in the engine, it looks really great, exactly as it should in the NS environments. I'm a little disappointed that the only way to get my hands on the sdk is to preorder it, I was under the impression this was going to be released for free (not sure if that is still the case). This is not to say I do not plan on getting the game at some point, which I most certainly do if I keep seeing media of this quality, but as a developer I was just hoping to get my hands on this and work on a level, and preferably a steam copy. My only other nitpick is on the onos, I'm just stating my opinion here so don't feel the need to flame me, but I thought the onos looks a bit silly with the headdress. I guess I was expecting more of an organic look to the aliens and less armored plating, so that threw me off. But other than that everything looks/sounds great so far, definitely looking forward to seeing more, now hurry up and get the preorder on steam! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

So brilliant of them to let you decide how much you want to pay. You have the option of a RIDICULOUS bargain at 20 dollars, but you can also if you wish give extra support, and get some recognition for it (very important) just like in the constie program.

    LE APPLAUSE!!!!!

I have the intention of doing at least two projects with the game tools. Is there anyway of 'publishing' a release when creating a mod so all the assets can be kept safe, so it can be installed via setup and use a different main menu than NS2?

After 6 years of playing this game for free and still not getting bored of it, I will gladly pay for the SE if the game even has 10% of the replayability value of the original. Honestly, good work guys, I'm sure we all had our doubts if we were ever going to see this game, but here it is <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

Nice job! I pre-ordered the SE post haste.

    I have questions..

Is this hallway representative of a standard map hallway? There's a lot of lighting and cyclic/random (steam erupting, wires shorting out, etc.) effects that add atmosphere but I'm curious as to how much of a standard map's budget is being spent here?

The carapace on the Onos's head and front legs, is that visual indication of tech upgrades (carapace +3) or does he always look like that? If that is natural, will there be visual cues for alien tech advancement?

How limited will be the use of Flash for interactive, animated surfaces in the game? Since there is significant potential for mini-game type hacking, UIs for power-rerouting, lift/crane controls, commander interface, etc. it's a great idea. However, I imagine each Flash widget in a map has some overhead and cost while they are operational and visible. What have you discovered so far?

I noticed the system requirements on the site are targeted to fairly low end hardware (like, "can't really run Vista, let alone a game" low), does the game run like you'd expect on that class of hardware (read: barely)?

I'm assuming Flash to be a feature that can be disabled for performance and map builders/scripters will have to write alternative functionality?

Assuming Lua code can be written for a level which controls behavior for random/cyclic/tiggered events which is run on the server, is development of maps as dynamic as writing client-side Lua where one can remotely attach via Decoda and with a few lines add door/tram control behavior, control the nano grid, etc?

What's the status on the game's netcode? Is that coming off the shelf or being written from scratch?

Is voice comm in scope for Fall '09 release? Is that another off-the-shelf tech?

Left 4 Dead got a lot of mileage out of a small number of maps, what's the target map count for initial release?

*Edit : I assume there's no Alien specific UI, which would be cool if we could make "Survival" scenarios!

    /Scott

OVERJOY WAVE!!! I just come back watching the trailer on and on! Just noticed the skulk (thx guys for pointing that out!)

Great job, guys. I happily donated many burritos to your cause.

Looks like it's drawing a good number of views from people unfamiliar with NS, based on the few posts I read. This is good news.

Can't wait for alpha, but make sure not to let the massive increase in hype force you to release a game that is not ready.

Quick unrelated question... so... do gorges ALWAYS have lasers? Or do they have to upgrade to have lasers?

    Congrats!

That is the perfect atmosphere, and you guys translated your art slides in game about perfectly (i remember you posting the storyboard, nice hint for us <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink-fix.gif" /> ). I have to compliment the artwork and the engine- there is a synergy that really really works, and I hope the movement in-game is kind of at that pace... not super frenetic but calculated and a little cautious. I was also impressed by the sound... and I know you guys used post-pro environment IR's or whatever reverb but it sounded fantastic... If you guys can pre-render effects with those effects on it.. it would be just awesome. Really look into it if you guys haven't yet, it would be another unique quality that makes the atmosphere of the ns universe top notch. Oh, and the onos model is great!!! Someone yesterday was saying they miss the gums... lol this isn't granny this is an onos.

I had a couple of questions related to the trailer and the pre-order:

-I look forward to the download separate from steam, my first question is because this is so... can we get a 64bit binary for those of us with a 64bit OS?
-Next up is, for updates, can we get an in-game alert from the master server browser to upgrade to a new version? Preferably, like the old starcraft battle.net where it would auto download-ingame and restart/install it for us to get a server list. No sense in fragmenting the player base.
-Onos looks great, and the armor on it fits its style and look great... the question is is that armor an upgraded carapace? <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

I really like the look of the new Onos. Visually, this Onos looks more heavily armored than his NS1 counter part and hopefully this change caries over into the gameplay as well. Having an Onos be very costly to obtain, yet very hard/costly to kill, would be my personal preference over what we saw in NS1 as it actually instills some fear rather than "oh hey, another Onos." It always felt like Onoses (wut wut?) were too common and too weak in NS1.

Hopefully the preordered copies, at the very least, can be downloaded indefinitely and see the same servers that a Steam user could see. Full integration into Steam would be preferred.

Agreed, in 3.0 killing onoses is a bit too easy for what they're supposed to bring to the table, hopefully these new ones will bring back the "Ah ###### me, recycle please" in Onos

Not sure if it's just me, but I didn't get the email about the pic on the roof - I own my own domain, and use a different email address for the Unknown Worlds forums and Paypal, curious whether that may cause "issues" getting the notifications etc...

    (Special Edition ordered)

for preorderers- it took me a few hours to get the email, and this was before the trailer came out... I expect that now with the forum back up and traffic pretty heavy it will also take a few hours to get the email (it comes from the unknownworlds.com domain).

Fantastic work guys. I'm also really liking the alien styling shown on the Onos... if the other aliens are only half as detailed as that they will be superb. Same goes for the corridor. I didn't see anyone else mention this, but the sound effects in the trailer sound excellent as well.

Really amazing what such a small team can achieve, I really hope you got the response you were after in terms of preorders and general hype so far.

I think you should put the basic price up! Less than £13 through paypal for the standard version, that's nuts!!

great, but i don't understand why its a stand alone.
Because you write you will use the steam anti-cheat features, how use in a stand alone???
I like if its stand alone, but i remind something about that steam features you are using in the final game.
Anyway, i hope i support you a bit, by buying the Special Edition because i like NS1 and NS2 looks like a good game, there are NOT alot of good games outside.

It is standalone in the sense that they have not used Valve's Source engine to create their game. The game has been created by their own development tools. Having their game support Steam features doesn't necessarily mean their game was made on the Source engine and in this case, it wasn't.
