The actual MUSIC is good, but how it's served to the player is not so good...

Pretty sure it's just because he keeps the sounds short enough for interruptions to be rare - I know tourrettes tank definitely gets interrupted.

I just a PM back from him and that is exactly what he has done. Try and match the replacing sound length to the original file. It's so tedious to compare sound lengths, is there any good way of doing it then organizing by size?

    This might work:
Opening two windows size by side, one with the L4D sound files (a copypaste from the L4D tank map) and one with the heavy sound files all in one map. Setting the view to "details", now you can add the duration to the details, which normally only show "name, size, type and date modified"

This way you can rename and copy-paste over the original sound files that are of the same duration... Still tedious though, but at least you've got a faster way of comparing the durations.

    ... I was not amused.

He simply condensed a thousand vulgarities from a million pubbers who thought they were being clever. So, the video is derivative from the cerebral diarrhea of the D-Grade masses that infect (pun so very intended) L4D so very often. Perhaps that was the point, but it still comes across as "LLO LOUSI IS EEATING KFC CUZ HES BLAK ROFLMAOUMBB."

If I wanted this kind of trash I would just pub around in game. At least then I might be able to pounce some idiot and tear his guts out.

What type of L4D player are you?

    <a href="http://www.collegeotr.com/college_otr/six_types_of_players_you_meet_in_left_4_dead_18527" target="_blank">http://www.collegeotr.com/college_otr/six_...ft_4_dead_18527</a>

    Elite squad here <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/marine.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="::marine::" border="0" alt="marine.gif" />

Too bad the it doesn't bring up types of infected you might be.

    <b>"The ignorant"</b>

Boomers spawning half across the map behind or infront of survivors, trying to get close while bellowing "HÖRK BLÖRK BLOOOORGH UNF UNF" which my old grandma would hear 5miles away.

Hunters leaping down from buildings THEN targeting a survivor "lol wut bonus damage?"

Tanks throwing rocks in heavy cover terrain, nothing else. No, we don't have physx here.

Smokers trying to solo a survivor without any other infected spawned. "B-b-but the patch imba-d the tongue, no?"

Biled survivors sitting 20cm from a pounced/smoked teammate not even trying to melee them off or bother checking tab for health status nor seeing how a text name bounces up and down with a distant "GET IT OFF GET IT OFF" beyond the petty horde.

Infected not realizing they need to grab the unbiled survivors, those who can help must be gotten rid off first.

    <b>"Master dodger"</b>

As a hunter you can clear the entire map without ever touching the ground.

    <b>"Exploiter"</b>

He use any means necessary to gain an advantage, the exploiter only looses his skill after the game gets patched up to date. Sitting in inaccessible area, punching melee faster then the wings of a hummingbird, spawning bot special infected, bashing up locked doors, nothing bothers him enough to stop with his ass-hattery.

    <b>"Busy-man"</b>

"I'm reloading!" an excuse they used to get out of church on sundays now manifesting itself automatically in a virtual game. Busy-man or reloaders, always reload before helping anyone or doing anything, even melee! Despite the fact using melee does not affect reloading. Pounced and smoked players hate this man more then water hates oil.

    <b>"Anti-smoker"</b>

"I got one in my tongue! grab the rest!, no, what are you doing, no dont!" *POUNCE* "Hooray 30 second tongue reload". They know they don't need to but do it anyway to score damage. Can be further applied to tanks and boomers (yes the boomer exploding releases pounce and tongue).

    <b>"Good natured"</b>

The 1337 team has forced at last 50% of the enemy team to ragequit. Instead of going on with total pwnification they now take it a bit easy, not always attacking all at once, they run around making lots of noise and avoid ending the game completely if they get a tank.

    Who are YOU?

    "Pyro/demo-Pacifist"

"Death not caused by anything less then the force of my own limbs is a puny (un)death"

Loved for his unability to teamdamage, hated for his slow progress in horde heavy areas the pacifist knocks zombies around like he never had done anything else in his life, or possibly overcompensating for his bowling skills. Fully aware of the nerf in latest patches he still refuse any kind of firearms and finds himself more and more often under a hunter, laughing at his chance of success. Smokers gladly target the pacifist due to his complete inability to defend against it. The moment to shine only comes when pipebombs and molotovs are plenty to go around, being the first person ready to throw. Tanks and boomer hordes has a tendency to target him first to die.

    nerf +attack2!!!

Let' see here, I am probably the guy who throws a pipebomb around the corner of a building only to see it make a trip around that building and lading right back at my feet... I usually stick with giving them to any other player who could use them... And even then I've seen them do weird stuff things to get back to me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" /> PhysX hate me!

Explosives tend to travel in space and time to get close to me in any game I play...

So it's official.. the update will only allow vs on death toll and dead air, not new campaigns.

survivor mode just records how long 4 people can survive the horde.

What I'm a little suspicious about is that it's being called "downloadable content." This may just be language that the console gamers understand, but normally we'd call this a "patch" or an "update." "Downloadable content" sounds like something you pay for. And I'm not paying for this.

If the map has any corners, it would allow them to survive infinitely, unless it spawns a tank now and then.

Too bad the update/expansion/DLC is not particularly near release.

    very briefly mentioned.

"...a brand new multiplayer mode call survival, where up to four players set records for the longest time surviving hordes of zombies on over 12 maps."

I'm assuming those 12 "maps" will just be the various levels of the campaigns. If they made 12 maps specifically for surviving the horde then I'd be excited. It's not specific whether the content is new or not though.
  • lolfighterlolfighter Snark, Dire Join Date: 2003-04-20 Member: 15693Members
I don't think they'll be "levels" comparable to the levels in the campaigns. They'll probably be setpieces. Basically, think of the last stand at the end of every campaign, only the rescue never comes.

    it's free for PC users...

if you're on the xbox you simply have the opportunity to buy the game with the "DLC" already on the disc. If you already bought the game for xbox I'm not sure how they'll handle it. Valve wouldn't charge you money but I bet xbox live would - as part of the "service fees" or whatever.

I don't think we know that yet; unless there was a more recent announcement, VALVe said that they haven't decided whether to price it or not. It does seem unlikely that they will charge, since we got a bunch of free junk for TF2 (and that game costs less), but we don't know for certain.

New campaign would be nice, but at least we can look forward to user-developed content now. Ideally, such user-developed content will have few closets.

Survivor mode sounds kind of cheesy. There are already billions of flash games out there where you stand against hordes of whatever, so unless VALVe does something strange, this will be little more than a diversion for me. When I first read "Survivor mode" I thought (and was kinda hoping) that it would be just like campaign, except no respawning after death, and much fewer weapons and ammo, and none of this silly infinite weapon and ammo stuff.

A "hardcore" difficulty could be interesting. Maybe seperate from the difficulty levels, or maybe like expert, except additionally:<ul><li>No respawning during the level (respawning between levels would probably be necessary).</li><li>Less health/pills around the level (maybe only in the safe rooms?).</li><li>No advanced weapons until third map (fourth? fifth? at all?). Advanced weapons are limited in supply: You can't grab infinite copies of the same weapon, each weapon only spawns once.</li><li>Smaller ammo reserves (two thirds? half?) for all weapons. (Maybe give pistols finite ammo, but keep it high.)</li></ul>It definitely wouldn't be for everyone (certainly not for me), but I'm sure some people would find this a fun challenge.
