    5 years down, and hopefully many more to go! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin-fix.gif" />

    Happy Birthday NS!

It's been a long ride, but I'm glad I've been here for it. I remember on Halloween 5 years ago, I wasn't out peddling door-to-door cuteness, I was enjoying one of the finest multiplayer experiences I'd ever touched.

Since that day... well, let me just say that I've gotten two people to buy HL just to play NS (because I played it so damn much around them <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ).

Thank you, Developers, for such an excellent diversion from the real world these past five years.

    -Sinter

P.S. This celebration makes an excellent excuse to donate to the Constellation program (or just for fun!)

Happy Fifth Birthday NS! Glad to see that the site is in great health and that the community is still thriving! Lest we forget the millions of marines (and counting) that have been bitten, spat on, scratched, and devoured to keep such a game popular.

I wonder how much blame I can place on NS for lowering my GPA by always being a distraction. Happy Birthday NS.

prolly a lot, ns 2 needs a disclaimer preventing just this from happening, would hate to see them sued over some clown droping his grades to that of a circus mules ###### handler.

*Note if your a ###### handler for a circus I retract my statment and appologise. I just didnt think you would need a lot of intellegence to do such a job.

happy halloween NS, i was singing happy birthday for yas yesterday, on our halloween but ill be singing it some more tonight.

can we get a still image or some thing from a really detailed coridor or room from the in house alpha team messing with the NSTR2.
even some exstended work from J's area, or corys work, there has to be something you can drop us.

perhaps realse a vista compatable version of NS 1 with a few more fixes and rebalances. i know there are stil lsome map bugs for building and getting stuck.

i had a OC the other day in shilva that wouldnt shoot forwards at 3 marines shooting it with a shotguns. for some reason it just couldnt see thru this invisable non exsistant wall. still i healed it marines jumped over the oc it began to fire.

The #ns topic was set on time. ^_^

I remember the joyful downloadage of the NS 1.0 installer. Loading up ns_bast, shooting a few rounds into the wall above the giant lift, and logging off and going on a camping holiday with the family for four days. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad-fix.gif" />

    Hurrah for NS!

Nice nice... just a few thoughts:

<!--quoteo--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'><!--quotec-->With the release of NS v1.04 (go back and play now and see if you still think it's the best!), we had a strong following that learned every aspect of the game. Including the "jetpack rush". By executing the do-or-die strategy of recycling your base structures, a cunning Commander could get a handful of shotguns and jetpacks within fours minutes or so, which were extremely hard to counter by a 2-hive Kharaa team.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

    a) No one ever used shotguns.
    b) You weren't facing hive two aliens if you jp rushed, you faced hive one aliens.
    c) It really wasn't a do-or-die strategy most of the time.

    Yay NS 5 years \o/

    Good news post, but:

"Including the "jetpack rush". By executing the do-or-die strategy of recycling your base structures, a cunning Commander could get a handful of shotguns and jetpacks within fours minutes or so, which were extremely hard to counter by a 2-hive Kharaa team."

The jetpack rush wasn't a do-or-die strategy (unless you were an idiot?), you didn't need to recycle your base structures, even a terrible commander could get a full JP/HMG team in ~5 minutes, nobody used shotguns as they were completely useless, HMGs were imba however, and 2-hive aliens were so overpowered (Fades with bugged hitboxes, crazy HP/armor and imba acid rocket) that even a fully teched marine team with HAs were unlikely to win the round if the second Hive went up.

    It's been a long time since 1.04 and I'm sure we've all forgotten a lot -- but honestly, that's just terribly wrong. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

I started playing four years ago.

Still fun as hell. I had a few breaks for a while, but hell, every single time I come back to NS, it's amazing.

The thing was that ONE jp/hmg marine could down the hive, with proper (yet reasonable) medspam due to jp hax fuel. Full jp/hmg teams weren't common because it wasn't entirely necessary, a pair was often plenty.

Dunno what you guys are talking about. I remember dozens of times solo'ing all 3 hives with my first jp/hmg of the round. It was risky because the res flow was so much slower back then, but damned if it didnt work the majority of the time.

Wow 5 years! It's been a great time, one of the best games I've ever played during my life. Who could have known 5 years ago that this game would last so long? I can't wait until NS2, hopefully (actually in my mind, defiantly) it'll be just as thrilling and fun as the first.

    I'd never trade this game for any other game out there... except for NS2 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />.

May the memories never die <3.

And great times were had. NS had a big impact on my (gaming?) life. I got to know so many cool people OVER THE INTERNETS that were just way more interesting than the random guy in class listening to linkin park. NS also gave me an amazing gaming experience, the gameplay never stopped interesting me whether it was public or competitive.

Personal note: Flayra, don't take this the wrong way, but I hope you developers wonder why people love your game so much. This question is almost impossible to answer, as there are so many different demographs of people playing NS. I myself loved it because the gameplay was so dynamic, involved, and deep. Really, nothing like it. It's amazing you guys made it that fascinating. I almost get a feeling it was a good portion of luck that made the gameplay so good. This is mostly from a competitive point of view.
There's also the people who just want to shoot things whilst listening to music or talking with the people they know on the server having two hour long games. They don't care if the round is 'good' technically, they just know they're having an awesome time. There's also the guys who think the whole idea of gorges is just adorable and can spend hours building offense chambers. Now ask yourself, what is it exactly, that brings all these different players, who all want different things, into one community? I just hope you guys are questioning those things while developing NS2.
