Don't forget that hive 2 also had webs which made jps get owned in the face!

I was really disappointed with the phrase "was hard for 2-hive aliens". 2-hive aliens in 1.04 was almost guaranteed win due to webs <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

The jetpack rush wasn't a do-or-die strategy (unless you were an idiot?), you didn't need to recycle your base structures, even a terrible commander could get a full JP/HMG team in ~5 minutes,
    ** this is true,
nobody used shotguns as they were completely useless,
** this is not strictly true, but opinionated
    HMGs were imba however,
** this is more or less true also, but the aliens have more than a fighting chance, especially with a lot of the toys they have (yes, even at hive 1--just keep the hmgs away from hives >.>;)
and 2-hive aliens were so overpowered
Fades with bugged hitboxes-, crazy HP/armor and imba acid rocket)
**lol solo fade in half an lmgclip noob fana, the hitboxes werent an issue if you played it too much \o\
that even a fully teched marine team with HAs were unlikely to win the round if the second Hive went up.
**it's called webs, even onos could easily be soloed by an lmg >.>

    It's been a long time since 1.04 and I'm sure we've all forgotten a lot -- but honestly, that's just terribly wrong. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

holy crap most of what Fana said was true *shakes head*

All i remember from 1.04 is that i saw an onos once.....

3 hive games are rare now but they were even rarer back then... but in a way i liked the fact that the onos was a novelty. In recent versions marines generally don't panic too much if they see an onos.. 2-3 hmgs/shotties and its relatively easy to take down.

BUT in 1.04.. and even in 2.0.. an onos was BAD NEWS indeed. It took a truly awesome teamwork effort to bring these behemoths down. For better or for worse there was a time when an onos held its rightful place as the most fearsome and destructive creature out there (Today i think a good fade is a lot more useful that a good onos). Unfortunately i think oni are now a bit too... well "spongey"

But all of this is irrelevant because who knows what ns2 will offer... (though the thought of a RAGDOLL ONOS really excites me <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" /> )

Cheers for the memories guys.. happy birthday NS!!!

you remember that the fade used acid rocket and bilebomb to attack in 1.04 right? putting half a clip into something that used range as much as the marines wasn't as easy as it was since 2.0...

    Talk about a quick 5 years (seemed to fly by... <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> ). Happy birthday NS

It has been a while, from 8 hour epic games in 1.0x to bunch of cs morons running around now in combat mode!
hell, i remember last minute welder missions. as the marine base was being killed by the aliens comm would toss out 2 welder and 2 jetpacks and marines would attempt (sucessfuly sometimes) to kill the hives xD
none the less it has been fun, good luck I look forward to ns2

you realise 1.0 is the only version of NS I actually played right? for 2.0-3.1 I had neither PC nor internet for the majority of each release <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" /> You also arent taking into account 1 res medspam, 1 res scanspam, no focus... you could own anything lol
Fades only chance to live was to not be in combat for more than half a second, and with the old blink going smack into most entities it wasn't easy lol.
The mainstay of the 1.0 alien arsenal is the lerk, which with practice had as much mobility as an unnerfed lerk of infamy w/ carapace & spikes instead of spores. This is the great culmination of 1.0 public where bar someneo trying for a jp-rt lockdown youll end up with lerks v jp weapon just prior to the hive going up, course you only generally got games like that on warservers (before it went downhill \o\)
But yeah competetive 1.0... lol (lol)

also miss lovely lamethings like, building packing (stacking several buildings into a single building) stacking in general (50ft high pgs!), mine spam, (not silent cause thats lame) bhopping marines, the old strafe speeds (I think you had to change the config to edit the ratios) wherein pressing forwards DIDNT guarantee you instant stuck on the floor cant move death. Plus you could actually dodge alien attacks at that speed with high proficiency <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tounge.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":p" border="0" alt="tounge.gif" />

edit: also miss the perm gorg psycho dynamic of pure win <3, slower tier1 and lots of other crap I gotta go to tutorial now ;x

    Heh. Happy Anniversary! Yay =)

Reading through that changelog is most nostalgic. Being shot by an alien/marine, commander +using unbuilt structures in the middle of his screen, welders hitting the hive for ludicrous amounts of damage, oh it was all good fun.

    Still miss 1.04 hera. qq.

Game has come far, and we've met lots of great people along the way. Hopefully NS will ressurect and attract a grand player base once again.

Keep it up Flay + team.

I still remember the 1st time I saw NS, was @ a computer cafe, 5 years ago. The game had only been out for a few days. After watching someone play for a short bit, I had the ppl install NS on my normal comp. Been playing ever since. NS is truely a Fooking alsome game.

I almost wish it was 5 years ago though, tooooooo many damn CO servers.
