I'm also being told that rhode island is now going to be changing the state motto from the lame "hope" to the infinitely cool "Our words are backed by nuclear weapons". Additionally their state flag will also be a picture of a clock at 5pm with the words quitting time.

The beta hasn't started. Bloody Valve saying it's going to be out on Monday, they could have atleast said which timezone that would be. I was really excited about playing it tonight.

I'm thinking when Valve says "Monday" they don't mean "Monday halfway across the world." They mean Monday where they are. That's PST, or GMT -8. I mean, come on. Common sense.

Even in their own timezone it has been monday for a considerable length of time. Considering half-life 2 and episode 1 were both released at midnight, I would have assumed the TF2 beta would also be released at midnight. But you know what they say about assumption, it makes an ass out of you... and umption.

They already said it was going to be in the afternoon. I believe two people, one of them being ME, already posted that information in this very thread.

Bad news. I came home today to discover that some time since i left the download running last night and 6pm tonight my interwebs exploded. thus:

at this rate, you'll still be fully preloaded by the time the beta is actually opened. I've been sitting here refreshing steam every 10 minutes like a tool for like 2 hours. =d

No, yes, and no respectively. Honestly it's like you didn't bother reading my earlier post. Weener.

QUOTE

Team Fortress 2 Beta Launches on Steam Today; Update: Beta Coming "In the Next Hour or Two" by Carlos Bergfeld Sep 17, 2007 11:32pm CST
Update: Speaking in a Shacknews group chat room on The Steam Community, Valve employee Erik Johnson has revealed that the maddeningly unreleased Team Fortress 2 beta is almost here. Valve is having difficulties with the dedicated Linux server software, causing a delay.
Currently, the Windows server software is available through the HLDS Update tool available on the Steam website, but the Linux software is not ready. If the company cannot get the Linux server up within "the next hour or two," it will simply release the game for play on Windows servers only.
"We're really close, just a few issues with the Linux server. We just released the Win32 server, so if people are running those, they can get started," said Johnson. "If we don't make it with linux in the next hour or two, we'll just fire away with what we have and get linux out as soon as we can."

Valve should hire me. I'd be perfect. Here's what my job would be:
Every time Valve is about to announce a release date, I'll add. If the release date is days away, I tack on another day. If it's weeks away, I tack on another week. Months? Tack on a month or two. Years? Slip another year in there. This way Valve will never be late, as opposed to how they work now, which is basically a cross between doing your homework in class the day it's due and doing your homework the day after it's due and slipping it into the teacher's pile of papers and hoping the teacher doesn't notice.

Or more accurately, announcing quite loudly that you're going to turn it in on time, maybe even early, because you could totally turn it in early if you felt like it. You just won't.

I for one have broken down and await TF2 :o
Actually, if you look under his name it does in fact tell you that he lives in rhode island.

And of course, Rhode Island, being the newest member of the USSR, mandates when citizens arrive to work and get back from work!
Valve Time.
Expect to play "Soon".
...but I guess that Communist Rhode Island would co-opt my beta slot for the state and give it to those most in need anyway.
it will be 'unlocked' later tonight - just preload til then...

So, is Unicorn Land on the east coast, or is that central time?
and playing a little wii on the side...
...but mostly refreshing...
