Your thread is filled with negative energy, and this one is all feel-good-ness, though...

I guess I'm lucky that I didn't buy ep. 1 yet, so the only thing I'll be buying twice is HL2... -_-

not overly surprised that they are only selling the orange box, and not really bothered either. I was going to buy Portal, TF2, and EP2 no matter what, so I get to give my GF HL2 and HL2 ep1.

don't forget to preload TF2 <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile-fix.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile-fix.gif" />

TychoCelchuuu, I'm gonna have to say that you thread is more like the older college age brother of this thread. Which, is clearly the teen angst version on the older college brother. It hasn't even hooked up with peggle extreeeeeeeme yet.

That said, This basically boils down to free hl2 + ep1, which though i already had it. is sweet, like peggle extreeeeeeeme

But your thread title reads: "Peggle Extreme".

Its like opening a newspaper reading a title like "100$ Notebooks" and then the article is actually about the history of the company making those notebooks and not the notebooks themselves.

Thus said: Tychos threads fails, requesting lock and spork to the ear!

Which is exactly what the other 2 "Meet the *" are.

They are cute little advertisements, and that is it.

If you want more info about the game go read the myriad of other articles or watch the other videos about the game.

Yes the beta release to coincide with FF is very hostile. They must be pretty ######-scared, which they should be. I randomly bumped into a friend of an FF dev in a pub a few weeks back and from what I was told FF looks like it will actually be more of a spiritual successor to TFC than what I've heard of TF2. Plus how many people do you think will be able to master the TF2 style to make custom maps and their custom props? I'm guessing FF's custom map community will piss all over TF2's in the long run unless Valve have something clever up their sleeve.

P.S. Scythe can you at least merge in some of Tycho's other thread, he does make a good point about the Black Box being shelved because Valve wants more money and don't mind breaking promises, and that HL-Ep2 will probably not be worth $30.

You have two hands.

And the Meet the * videos aren't supposed to be some sort of "lol this is a tutorial about what the character is capable of." They're just awesome videos.

Your overestimation of a mod team that hasn't shown much more than a few jump vids that didn't seem horribly interesting is pretty funny.

I hate to say it, but do you honestly think Valve really even gives a ###### about the dates FF puts out? They have no reason to fear them whatsoever: TF2 has instantly more recognition than Fortress Forever ever will, as it is the one being covered in the press, and the one with a wierd, out-there art style.

I don't doubt that FF will probably be tons of fun, and I loved the old TFC(it was my first online multiplayer game and I played the hell out of it), but honestly thinking that they are lining the beta up with FF is just friggin' ridiculous.
• TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
Anyone that thinks TF2's timing has anything at all to do with Fortress Forever is delusional. First, Valve is a big ol' company with quarterly earnings and stuff. They don't just hold back something like a beta test just so they'll be able to crush a mod if it looks like it's coming out. Second, Valve loves mods. They depend on mods in part for their popularity. What would Valve be without Counterstrike? Or even something like Day of Defeat? There's nothing in it for them to destroy Fortress Forever with TF2. Also, FF and TF2 are different games. The Planet Half-Life preview is pretty good: FF make some changes to TFC in one direction, and TF2 brings TFC in an entirely different direction. Heck, TF2 only has one capture the flag map. Obviously FF and TF2 aim for some of the same audience, but they also go for different people and in any case they're both different games. Finally, forcing people to preorder your game to get in to the beta is not the best way to overshadow a competitor.
• enf0rcerenf0rcer intrigued... Join Date: 2003-03-16 Member: 14584Members
I doubt it really matters that the dates coincide. The people who play FF are the ones who know about it now, that fact won't changed just because of the mod release date. Probably the same number of people will try the mod regardless of TF2. Then after playing both the divide occurs, the one that was inevitable even if TF2 was released months down the road. The better game is the one that will be played, and the publicity of TF2 can't leech players who don't even know about FF.

Dunno if that was understandable, I'm too lazy to make it double plus good english.

on the topic of orange box, I'm playing ep. 1 through right now and it's soo much better than HL2 vanilla ever was. Having a sidekick makes it 10 times better. HL2 was borderline boring - lots of running around using mediocre weapons, and little plot or character development. running through the game using teamwork with Alyx gives the game another dimension.

beginning of ep. 1 is sorta a deus ex machina though. sucked through the void or something by vortigaunts? might as well have had Gordon just wake up in bed realizing it was all a dream.

I'm playing through Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 again. I'm up to where you first meet the rebels/hopper mines in HL2. I'm having lots of fun; wouldn't call it boring. Holds up pretty well compared to something new like Bioshock, even considering HL2's age.

Your new copies of HL2 and Ep1 become "gift" copies that you can give to anyone else. They will then own HL2 and/or Ep1. Forever! This is the kind of information included in my far superior topic which Scythe locked because he's a dumb poopoo.

I fully accept that I'm in the minority about HL2, but I felt like basically nothing happened in that game. the whole plot of the game is like two sentences. you're in an orwellian dystopia, you run and swing your crowbar around to help a group of rebels. a bit character with like 2 lines betrays you and it's supposed to be a big deal I guess. I adore the in-engine exposition, but there's just not enough of it. Bioshock is thick with it, which I love, though in bioshock it's almost all via recordings... if ep. 2 is like a cross between bioshock with its volume of plot, and ep. 1 with Alyx following you around, making the plot feel more 'real', I will be quite happy.
• TychoCelchuuuTychoCelchuuu Anememone Join Date: 2002-03-23 Member: 345Members
Half-Life 2 really isn't about the plot. The storytelling is something a lot of people love about it, but frankly I think even that isn't as great as it could be. What I like is the shooter elements, the graphics, the amazing art, the animation, the sound design; basically the world. The plot's just as silly as the first game and reveals even less, but if I wanted plot I could play something like Bioshock. HL2's quite fun for what it is. I mean, I get vertigo when I'm crossing the underside of that bridge. Few games do that to me. And there are a million little setpieces: fighting off a gunship from a lighthouse while glass crumbles around you, watching your antlions overcome a group of Combine soldiers and their hasty barricade in Nova Prospekt, fighting through the streets with the resistance, running through the graveyard with Grigori in Ravenholm, etc. It's like a nonstop action movie, only you're the hero and it's got a unique setting in Eastern Europe with dystopian sci-fi stuff.

I avoid buying games off Steam for the same reason I avoided buying Bioshock: the DRM. But if someone gives me the game for free, I'll take it.
